Akasaka Shisenhanten is probably one of the most well-known Chinese restaurants that exist in Tokyo. The master chef, Chen Kenichi(a former Iron Chef), and his father first brought Sichuan-style Chinese cuisine and made it popular here. Their Sichuan dishes are highly regarded and are authentic. I have to admit here that I don’t eat out at Chinese restaurants frequent enough to make a reasonable comparison. And, though I’ve known this place for many years, I never bothered to make a reservation and check it out. I finally had a chance and got to try their dishes. Overall, the food here was far beyond my expectations. It’s cheap if you go for lunch, especially weekdays, and dinner can be reasonable as well(very pricy if you are used to eating at places like P.F. Chang’s in the US). It’s smart to take a couple of people with you so that you can try out a variety of dishes at a cheaper rate. I personally am not good with spicy food and thus had much fewer choices than others, but still enjoyed their food. The only reason I didn’t put a 5.0 was because this place is hard to find(it’s in an old, shabby, unnoticeable office building) and the facilities look like 50 years old. So, it’s not a good place for a romantic date, but if you don’t really care about such things, it should be a 5.0 place :)
