Very overpriced. Killarney is full of tourist traps and this is one of them. We were looking for a place to eat after 9pm. Service was subpar and food was ok, but not good, although it was presented beautifully. The live music and atmosphere were pleasant.

I don’t know how this place has such good reviews! It was really awful. The chicken fajitas were edible however it was like they just dumped a ton of sweet and sour sauce you buy at the grocery store on it. The salmon was dry, plain and just blah! The couple beside us were complaining too. We went to the restaurant off Unilocal reviews but wow. Just really bad

Went here as part of a large tour group, as part of a recommendation by our tour leader. While the food was decent, the service was horrible. Quite shitty, actually. At our table of four, the waitress took my wife’s and my order before the other two people at our table. Another person at our table also ordered the salmon, same as my wife. When a different waiter delivered the food, he brought food to everyone at the table except my wife. The other woman who ordered salmon got hers already, even though my wife had ordered hers first. I wasn’t hung up on that fact, except for the fact that my wife’s salmon never arrived. The waitress actually had also removed a small appetizer plate from our table and took my utensils too. So now, no waiter in sight after about 10 minutes, my wife still has no food and I have no utensils for my food. I eventually got up, flagged down the waiter and told him my wife’s food hadn’t arrived and that I had no utensils. Another 5 minutes goes by, waiter brings me utensils, and leaves. ??? No explanation of where my wife’s food was. Another 5 minutes goes by and the original waitress comes over. By now I’m pretty pissed. We’ve been sitting upwards of 20 minutes without my wife’s food and no utensils for mine. Now, take a guess what the waitress said to us. Ready? «It’s not my fault.» She didn’t say, «I’m so sorry» or «your food should be coming any moment.» Nope, so says it’s not her fault. Great, that’s really f’ing helpful… 25 minutes later. Then she says, «It was delivered to another table.» OK, then, so you should have an extra salmon with no home, right? I don’t know who trained this woman, but this is not what you are supposed to say to a customer. First thing she says is it’s not my fault, then says it was delivered to another table. Beyond useless things to say. Very annoying. She asked if we still wanted the salmon. Let’s see, now 30 minutes after everyone else had their food delivered and everyone in our party is done eating. NOTHANKS. Luckily my entrée was enough for both of us as we lost our taste completely for this restaurant. The manager eventually came over and offered us a free dessert, to which we declined. Too late, you fucked up so much I don’t even want free food. She asked if we still wanted the salmon. Also, no thanks. Then, in a surprise move, the manager then brought us a salmon anyway. To which we declined a second time. Then, when the bill came, the waiter had all four people at my table on one bill. I said, nooooo, I want ours on a separate bill. I wanted to tip accordingly for the awful service, but didn’t want the other people at the table to have a group-tip be attributed to them in any way. The waiter was put off by this, left in a huff and came back in a huff. To the manager of this place: I will give credit where credit is due, and the little food we did have was good. And I do appreciate your eventual offer of a dessert and replacement salmon. But it was too late. Your wait staff sucked that night. This was THEWORST service I have ever received at a restaurant. EVER. I had never left a one cent tip in my life prior to this night. Who knows… maybe most of your clientele is tourists that will never come here again and that’s why the service was rubbish.

Stayed in Killarney for 2 nights out of a 9 day trip in Ireland. We ate dinner at The Porterhouse both nights. The food was outstanding. The first night we tried the mussels which were cooked perfectly and had a ton of flavor. The waitress was extremely friendly and the atmosphere was very warm and comfortable with Irish music playing throughout the restaurant. The second night we had burgers which were the best I’ve ever had. They were cooked exactly like we requested the fries came in cute little baskets and everything was served quickly. I highly recommend giving visiting here if you travel to Killarney, I can’t wait to return.

Stopped by for dinner tonight and actually decided to leave after receiving our appetizer. We ordered fried brie with chutney and the brie was obviously frozen and refried prior to serving. It was terrible. The only reason I’m giving this place three stars is the staff. They were very kind and understanding!

The food was great, 2 courses plus a wine/beer for € 27, very good value. We ordered Salmon and Soup for starters and Chicken for the main course, portions were huge, and the taste was excellent. The service from the waitress was excellent, this place puts the rest of Killarney’s food places to shame(as the town is amazingly overpriced). .. my only quam really is that towards the end of the evening there was a few loudmouth drunks inside the place, but Killarney is Killarney so it wasn’t overly abrupt, just a pain in the a##!! Would return here though, for sure!

What amazing portions this place has! It was Thanksgiving day and my boyfriend and I decided to treat ourselves for a night with better food, so glad we came here. They do a special prix fix menu that is definitely worth the price. I ordered the cream cheesed stuffed mushroom, he got the smoked salmon– HUGE portion for that! We both got the sirloin entrée, soo much food, also, they’ll ask if you want some sauce a garlic butter or something else i can’t remember, it’s essentially either ketchup or mayonnaise. The dessert was a warm apple pie with custard and ice cream. I was so stuffed I couldn’t finish it at all but thinking back on it now, i wish i had it with me so i could devour it, sooo delicious! I would definitely recommend trying this place out if you ever find yourself staying in Killarney. They also have live music to serenade you, who can beat that?! :)

After having little luck getting service at another establishment, we came to Porterhouse. There wasn’t a wait so we went on in. This is a family owned place that uses local ingredients so what’s not to like? Our server was awesome and she walked us through the menu and got wine and beer out fast. Wine pours are great and they have a decent selection of beers on tap as well as a full bar. On the menu they have the usual suspects: burgers, steaks, fish and chips, lamb, grilled items, etc. Everyone enjoyed their meal and it wasn’t too expensive. Normally when I see Porterhouse I think steakhouse and then I think pricey and/or pretentious and it was neither. They also have a 3 course menu if you are leaning in that direction. Solid choice for dinner in Killarney.

Found this restaurant on Unilocal! The reviews did not lie. The food was fantastic, the waitress suggested I should try some chilli with my nachos — it was amazing, I followed with fajitas which were so delicious and so filling. Overall great experience and great value — 3 courses for € 25. To top all this the service was incredible.

We came here through a recommendation from a bouncer at a nearby pub. He was not wrong. I never had a chips platter where the salsa was baked with the cheese, but it worked so well. The hamburger was so so juicy and the fajita came out sizzling(sauce even hit my arm). I would have liked more meat in the fajitas but what are you gonna do. They also had a ful bar and I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone

We enjoyed a lovely three course dinner tonight, including a generous glass of wine. The dining room is warm and inviting, the service was courteous and attentive. The menu ranged from fresh, grilled salmon to sizzling fajitas, nice starters, and several desserts.
