Front Door / Sonny’s

This was a great pub to visit. Clean and a friendly staff. Food was great, and just an overall good place to relax. Highly recommend anyone to stop by for a pint.

We stopped in for dinner during a quick visit.
Front Door is so big and has several different rooms. We felt welcome right as we walked in; it has a great atmosphere. Our server was prompt and helpful.
I ordered the Shepard’s pie and my husband ordered the bangers and mash. Both dishes were very good. The Shepard’s pie was quite a large portion and also comes with fries and a small salad. (I couldn’t finish it all.) My husband really enjoyed the bangers and mash.

Stopped in for a pint and a bite. Really interesting place with a number of little alcoves and rooms. A bit like I imagine the Winchester mystery house if it were a pub. Good was decent and the servers were nice. Check it out.

We stopped in here for a light dinner. The place is huge and there are multiple bars. We split a pizza. It had prosciutto and arugula on it. The crust was light. It was perfect to share.

Tuna club was excellent! Restaurant was huge, lots of places to sit and tons of character!

Cool place to hang out after dinner. This establishment has many rooms each with its own flavor. The drinks are relatively cheap and the atmosphere is really cool. I didn’t eat food here so I can’t speak on that but I would recommend going simply for the pub atmosphere. Definitely try this place out if you are in Galway.

My second visit to Galway, my second trip to The Front Door. I love this place. It’s huge and there are any number of places to sit. How many bars do they have in there? I don’t even know, but I’m pretty sure I counted at least 5. The staff is friendly and engaging although, as you can tell from the picture, it would have been nice to know the Shepard’s Pie came with a salad… because I also ordered a salad :-) Oh well, I got my greens that day.
The food was delicious and the portion size was VERY large. I was unable to finish my meal, and I’m a big eater. The chips were perfect and the salads were fresh, light, and flavorful. The Shepard’s Pie was delicious and the Guinness was Guinness!
I can tell you where I’ll be when it comes to my third visit to Galway…

Kind of mental in this place on a Saturday night. It’s kind of like a student style bar but for people in their mid-​twenties. Started at the downstairs bar and watched the bartender making cocktails for a bit– didn’t look like the most amazing cocktails if I’m honest, but I didn’t try one. I’m a bit of a stickler for a good cocktail though, and I don’t think this kind of bar is the scene for them.
Moved upstairs when we decided we weren’t going to be served any time soon and managed to get drinks quickly enough. Good bartenders upstairs, they got through the crowds pretty efficiently. There’s a small but nice smoking area where we managed to find seats and spent a good portion of the night there. When the cheesy music started towards the end we came in and had a dance and a few more drinks. Good time had overall, will probably be back, but nothing amazing.

Amazing food. We had the wild mushroom canneloni and the nachos :). Portions are huge! Decent wine selection, warm, bubbly staff. It was my birthday, travelling through galway, and they brought a fantastic birthday dessert. Lovely people. Lovely restaurant.

I was traveling through Ireland last week and eat a fish and chips here with a pint. The food was excellent. This building is so neat and wildly designed. The bathrooms cleanest I have ever been in. You didn’t have a server bugging you every few minutes but they are attentive. An easy 5 stars!

As an international student living in Galway, this is the BEST pub to go to! The service is quick, the bartenders/​barbacks/​security are friendly, and the crowd is always good! Great place to mingle any given night of the week!

The atmosphere is great and the staff are friendly. I got dinner here with my friends as we’ll and the food was deliciously and decently priced. This bar has become my go to bar for most nights out of the week, I love it so much!

Two, two, two bars in one! I swear I got lost in here twice and I only had two drinks so that’s no excuse. Different doorways and different sets of stairs lead into the same rooms from different directions, so who knows how you got in; bathrooms are this way, and that way, so you never have to use the same one twice.
It’s a damn maze, but if you’re going to be stuck somewhere, this is a pretty damn good spot.
Booze and food with a cozy atmosphere — what else do you need?

Front Door is a restaurant that makes me think of Ralph Fiennes talking about nooks and crannies in In Bruges. The restaurant is surprisingly big and has loads of tables tucked in corners. I shared a lunch with my wife here. After taking the train from Dublin to Galway and watching endless cows grazing on the grass, she was convinced to order the Irish beef steak sandwich. She enjoyed it.

Loved our impromptu dinner at the Front Door. Excellent service, ambiance, drinks and food, of course! Would return in a heartbeat, and highly recommend!

Very much a bar-it’s dark and cave like which was very much suitable and a comfortable ambiance. The service was quick and through and the food good.

The pub has a cozy old fashion charm with plenty of seating for dinner but enough standing room for just a pint. There was «some important football game» going on the night, so the pub might have been busier than it usually would be, but the staff was still efficient and friendly. As I mentioned, the shepherd’s pie is amazing. It arrived with a thick crust of cheese hiding wonderfully creamy mashed potatoes, and there’s more treasures underneath. The meat itself is super flavourful and the gravy it came in was thick and rich. There was enough of this pie to fill my belly, but I couldn’t help but try my friend’s Guinness stew. All the compliments it has received are true, I almost wish I had order that instead! Whichever you choose, you can’t lose!

My husband and I popped into the Front Door Pub on rainy afternoon for lunch and were pleasantly surprised with the food. The pub itself is warm and cozy — we selected a table next to the fireplace which was lit and warming the little alcove where our table was located.
I ordered the chicken stir fry and the chicken was super juicy and the dish itself was flavorful. My husband ordered the steak sandwich and he said that he really enjoyed it.
Service was excellent and I wish we would have had the time to sit back and enjoy a pint or two!

Hatte hier eine prima Chowder zum Lunch! Der Pub ist überraschend groß. Wenn man nach hinten durchgeht geht es noch nach oben und in viele verwinkelte Ecken. Das Pint lag bei knapp über 4 EUR, die Speisen sind zum Teil für die Portionen etwas teuer.

A gorgeous Irish pub in Galway. Staff are very friendly and the craic is fabulous. I would happily come back here anytime for a pint and the craic :-))

Holy crap, the food here is unbelievable!
My first draft of this review had me writing about how it was some of the best pub food I’d ever had, but that doesn’t go far enough.
It’s some of the best food, ever. Period.
I had Mexican food here. REAL Mexican food. Outside the states, that’s basically the equivalent of finding the grail. My girlfriend had fish so good I was practically tempted to go out and join them on the high seas.
Also — friendly staff, great atmosphere and good prices. You’d be hard pressed to find a better restaurant to satiate your hunger in the whole of the European continent.
Oh, and they also have free wifi. Can you rate something 6 stars?
