The Auld Dubliner

Good pub but best of luck getting a seat, can have a song song en all but gargle is mad expensive proper temple bar price, Guinness and a Heineken 12 – 50. so don’t go on a budget would get five stars if not for that.

A great pub in the Temple Bar area. Like all the other places I went in Ireland on this trip, I ordered chicken wings. Like all the other places I had chicken wings in Ireland, they were surprisingly good!
My wife and I came here for the live music. They had a guy playing some good old Irish songs but after a while he switched to American music in an Irish style and we left. Before that happened, the music was great, and the food was above my expectations. I came here years ago on my first trip to Ireland and I’ll come here again on my next trip! Nice staff, good selection of drinks, plenty of space inside and live music.
Some notes on the wings, since I ended up getting so many wings this trip: sauce was good, the dressing for dipping was good, and they were cooked well. The portion size was good but the wings themselves were a bit small. Not a big deal, there were enough of them in the basket anyway. Overall, I easily approve of these wings.

The craic is always great at The Auld Dubliner. The place is filled wall-​to-​wall with people from all around the world having a good time. Most of the time, the live music is excellent. And it’s a great place to have a beer and watch a football or rugby match.

I know it’s in Temple Bar, but I promise it isn’t a tourist trap! Live music on the first floor and a quiet warm pub atmosphere on the second during a Thursday evening downpour. Delicious food served (I had the steak sandwich) and a great pint poured (stout). Enjoy!

I really enjoyed the single platter I had which came with some good wings, mushrooms, and chicken fingers. After I ate I went downstairs because the restaurant is upstairs and saw live music. You get to meet a lot of Irish locals which was great.

Just arrived from france, first night in Dublin, stopped by The Auld Dubliner because of the music, found a spot on the outside, ordered drinks, spoke with australian, irish, french, a lot of fun, The guitar player/​singer was awsome with a really good playlist. The pub was crowded, and getting the drinks was a quest for an experienced adventurer but worth it. Guinness, Blumers and a really nice night there, i’ll go back for sure !

This place is a pretty iconic little bar in Temple Bar. It seemed pretty touristy and I’m sure they jack up the prices a bit, but I had a good time here regardless. The stews were decent and I was hungry so that helped! The funny thing is that the place was only a little busy when we entered and decided to go to the quieter upstairs bar, but by the time we came back downstairs a couple hours later (and a few beers later) the place was slammed packed with people singing along and dancing to the musician – that was playing what I think was a mix of Irish drinking music and cover songs. A lot of the patrons seemed to be locals and knew all the words to the Irish songs that were being played. Which, I thought was interesting! Usually locals stay away from tourist places, but here it was like they all moved in and took over at some point in the evening! I think that maybe the locals come here to see the bands and us tourists (mistakenly) come for the food and drinks. LOL!

Fun place, nice people and wonderful music. Go somewhere else for the food. But for drinks and fun, this is the place to be. It is 3pm and the place is rocking.

Tolles Pub. Super Live Musik. Tolle Auswahl an Whiskys. Speisen sind in guter «irischer» Qualität. Leider nicht billig. Halt typisch für Irland.

This is one of the more traditional bars on Temple. The food is mediocre, typical bar food but I couldn’t complain. The music is what made is such a great place for me.
Around 1pm on most days, they star acoustic guitarists with incredible talent. I went to about every bar in the area for their advertisements of live music and this one had the best talent. They played everything from Johnny Cash to Journey before moving on to the traditional Irish ballads. I loved and nothing can beat the vibe!

When I had to walk past a TGI Fridays and a Hard Rock Café to get here, and then be ushered in by a woman with menus outside of the door, I really should have paid attention to all of the warning signs and walked right on by. But, after a long day trip and an empty belly, these red flags were less than obvious. So we had dinner.
I started with a pint of Guiness and ordered the fish and chips. I think my finace got them too. Fish was mushy and tasteless, reminiscent of a frozen fish microwaved. The batter was too heavy and came off in large, disgusting chunks. Super overpriced for the quality and the Guiness was nearly 7 euros. Shit. What a shame.

Felt like a real Dubliner. loads of beer everywhere!
And. there’s a woman in the loo who passes you the soap and the toilet paper… wat da fu!!!

This place is pretty lively and exciting. Traditional décor and live music are great.

Go upstairs for more space, and not as busy as the ground-​floor…

Grab a Guinness and step upstairs. Try finding a window table.

Ruhige Sitzplätze im ersten Stock Laden zum kurzen entspannen vom üblichen Trubel im Temple Bar Bezirk ein.
Das Essen hier ist durchaus zu empfehlen, ein kleines Manko war nur die übel gelaunte Kellnerin (aber wer ist denn schon immer gut drauf?)

+ Abends tolle Stimmung, toller Sänger, tolle Songs (Charts und Klassiker, man kann schön mitsingen/​-​grölen/​-​brüllen, live Musik bis 0:00 Uhr (wenn man nett ist, darf man sich auch Lieder wünschen oder etwas Spezielles, im Falle eines Geburtstags).
+ Oben befindet sich ein kleines Restaurant, in dem man entspannt Essen, aber auch nur Trinken kann.
+ Nettes Personal (außer dem Barkeeper)
+ Ausgelassene, freundliche Stimmung zwischen Touris und Einheimischen.
+ Türsteher sind freundlich (man muss nur darauf achten, ob man an einigen Abenden mit 18 oder 21 rein darf).

Fazit: Trotz beachtlicher Getränkepreise war es ein richtig toller Abend. Man kann ja nur ein Getränk bestellen;).

The auld Dubliner est un vieux pub situé au centre de temple bar.
A l’intérieur il y a une espace assez large et un long comptoir.
Au fond il y a un immense écran pour voir les matchs de foot.
Une bonne ambiance en soirée et le weekend.

Dropped in one night after a horribly disappointing dinner (see my review for The Shack). The upper level wasn’t crowded at all. We easily found a table and I happily ordered a toasted sandwich and a pint of Guinness. The sandwich hit the spot. Service was a bit sketchy — I wasn’t sure if I should go to the bar to order, but there did appear to be one waiter who eventually came to get my order. He never did return to give me the check, so I just left enough money on the table and we moved on. There was live music downstairs, but I liked the more laid-​back atmosphere upstairs.

Als Erstlingsbesucher in Irlands Hauptstadt sind wir eher zufällig im Auld Dubliner gelandet. Wir hatten an einem Samstag um die Mittagszeit Hunger und Durst und suchten etwas «Bodenständiges». Da wir gerade auf der Flaniermeile «Temple Bar» unterwegs waren, sind wir in den ersten Pub rein, der urig und nicht nach Touristenfalle aussah.
Als wir eintraten war noch wenig los im dunklen Schankraum und wir konnten uns an einen der wenigen Tische setzen. Kurz nachdem wir die Getränke bei einem recht freundlich gestimmten Barmann bestellt hatten, fing ein Musiker an, sein Equipment aufzubauen. Als wir dann etwas später bereits beim Essen sassen, wurden wir vom modernen irischen Barden mit Live-​Musik unterhalten. Schnell füllte sich der Laden und um 14:00 Uhr war gut ²⁄₃ des Schankraums mit gut gelaunten Gästen gefüllt, die teilweise auch gerne lauthals zu den Stücken von Eric Clapton, The Beatles, Billy Joel oder Irish Folk mitsangen oder in den verbleibenden Freiflächen tanzten. Bald wurden dann auch die ersten Whiskys zu den Bieren bestellt. Eine solche Stimmung hätte wir um diese Uhrzeit nie erwartet.
Da störten uns dann auch die Preise für das gerade mal durchschnittliche Essen nicht mehr. Diese fantastische Atmosphäre war jeden Cent wert!!!

Now if you want a true Irish pub drinking experience, then head on over to one of my personal favorites, Auld Dubliner, which is located right in the middle of Temple Bar.
When the sun is up, the Auld Dubliner is a great place to get away from all of the hustle and bustle that is the city of Dublin. But once nighttime approaches, this beautifully designed pub becomes alive with the energy of locals and tourists alike.
I happen to pop in here once and ordered some pints of cider with my friends. The table next to us were a group of local musicians. They picked up their instruments, started playing and broke into an Irish song or two. It really made for an excellent few hours on a gloomy Sunday afternoon.
Plus this great Irish pub is a few steps away from my favorite place to down a few in Dublin… Oliver St John Gogarty.

To go, zum Pflichtprogramm gehört stets ein Besuch im Auld Dubliner, im Temple Bar Viertel.
Wenn man schon in Dublin ist, dann sollte man ihn nicht vergessen oder auslassen, den, wie ich immer sage, ersten oder Pflichtbesuch im Alten Dubliner. Und das hat weder etwas mit der tollen Musik der Dubliners zu tun, noch mit einem alten zweibeinigen oder vierbeinigen Kumpel hier im grünen Bereich.
Gemeint ist damit nämlich ein ganz toller Schuppen. Der alte Dubliner, oder auf gut einheimisch hier ‘the auld dubliner’ ist ein recht uriger Laden, der zu meinem Dubliner Stammrepertoire gehört, wenn ich mal wieder dort im Lande bin.
Er liegt im Temple Bar Viertel, nur ein paar Schritte und Türen weit weg vom noch bekannteren Temple Bar Pub selbst.
Eigentlich kann man den Schuppen nicht unbedingt groß nennen, wohl eher recht klein, aber das macht ja gerade einen der Werte seiner Einmaligkeit, seiner Heimeligkeit aus.
Gerade dadurch, dass alles etwas enger, und damit natürlich auch etwas gemütlicher ist, entsteht wohl erst die wirklich ausgezeichnete Stimmung. Hier kennt übrigens fast jeder jeden, oder, um es so zu sagen, als Fremder gewinnt man leicht diesen, wahrscheinlich falschen Eindruck. Aber das macht nichts, denn es tut der guten, vertraut wirkenden Stimmung keinen Abbruch, diese fröhliche, lockere Atmosphäre steckt eben einfach an.
Den Laden finde ich einfach toll, wenn es auch, je später es am Abend wird, um so enger, um so gedrängter zugeht. Hier trinkt man, traditionsgemäß, Guinness vom Fass, und man isst aus dem bodenständigen Angebot der Stammkarte, z.B. ein schnelles Roast Beef Sandwich oder, was mir hier besonders Freude machte, ein leckeres Irish Stew, hier schmeckte es mir besonders gut.
Wenn man auch die Preise nicht unbedingt low budget nennen kann, das was man dafür bekommt, das kann sich sehen, schmecken, und wirklich gut essen lassen, und ist gut jeden Euro wert. Denn eines sollten wir nicht vergessen, hier sind wir in einem tollen, bescheiden gebliebenen typischen Traditionspub, aber eben in einer der begehrtesten teuersten Lagen, die es gibt, mitten im Herzen von Soho, äh wollte sagen der Temple Bar Area. Und etwas besseres zu wollen kostet noch immer unser besseres oder bestes, nämlich einen etwas größeren Happen unserer Moneten.
Und noch eins, wenn ich das nächste mal komme, dann werde ich, ist doch klar, wieder hingehen, denn Freude gemacht hat bisher nun mal doch jeder einzelne Besuch.

optimale Erreichbarkeit in der Temple Bar, im Herzen der Stadt, sollte man wirklich, wenn man Kneipen, Pubs und derartige urige Gastwirtschaften mag, dies ist eine der schönsten die ich kenne.
Budgetfreundlichkeit hier nur mit leichtem das Haupt weise und nachdenklich wiegen, nicht überteuert, aber es gibt nun mal erheblich preiswerteres in Dublin, aber bei der Lage, hier im Vergnägungsviertel der Hauptstadt doch zu akzeptieren.
Und die Atmosphäre ist schliesslich der Grund warum man hingeht, die ist einzigartig urig schön. Und das obligatirische örtliche Guinness tut eben hier auch ganz besonders schmecken.
