My experience of coffee quality here has been a bit mixed to be honest. Generally coffee from Insomnia is good, but I’ve had a couple of not so great ones here. The location is great though and there’s plenty of seating outside and downstairs. They’re also one of the only Insomnia’s that offer free phone charging from Wattspot(amazing little device, we need more of these!). I wouldn’t blacklist a café as baristas change so frequently within chains. Maybe I just had a bad experience!

Always order a soy cappuccino wherever soy milk is served and insomnia has it for no additional charge! Ordered a tall which has the same generous portions as a Starbucks grande and it was delicious! One of the best cappuccinos I’ve had and amazed by the creaminess of the drink since drinks using alternate milks generally loses the creaminess provided by regular and whole milk. It was delicious and brewed the perfect drinkable but hot temperature to help kickstart my days in Dublin! Must try if you’re a coffee lover!

An Insomnia is an Insomnia but this one has its own little subculture and it’s brilliant. Any time of the day(depending on how close to exams season it is) you can pop in and see at least three or four students come in for a caffeine fix, but it isn’t by any means just a place for students despite being about 6 steps away from the RCSI library. Backpackers seem to love it, as does the odd professional on a coffee break. It’s friendly, cheap, and good quality without being overbearing; outside seating is really great on a nice day and there’s a downstairs for indoors seating if you prefer. Deals that include any size hot beverage and a pastry/sandwich are actually fabulous. The staff are friendly but not intimidatingly involved — happy to chat while you wait but don’t go on about the weather when you’ve got places to go. On my way there now for a quick fix before a long day of study!

Stopped here for a quick breakfast this morning. Very good deal — pastry and any size coffee, even fancy drinks, for 3.95 euro(some pastries were an up-charge to 4.50 euro). We both had blueberry muffins which were very good. Oddly enough, the muffins were different and one was better than the other. On its own, the muffin cost 2.50 euro. We shared a large mocha and it had a great presentation. Lots of thoughtful perks at this place, like a free pitcher of water for self serve, clean restrooms, free phone charging station, and free used coffee grounds to enrich your potting soil! It was cold when we were there, but they had lots of nice outdoor seating as well. Server was very friendly.

Price — puyfect, location — puyfect, overall — puyect! I can’t believe my favourite café hasn’t been listed on Unilocal yet?! Okay so Insomnia does great coffee and has fab offers like 3.75euro for a delicious rich brownie with any size coffee, but what sets this one apart is it’s perfect location and the vast outdoor seating! It’s located at the end of Chatham Row, just off Grafton street, so you can relax with your coffee cake combo outside and away from the crowds. If you don’t want the brownie there are lots of other options available and you can also get gluton free stuff as well. Staff are lovely and very helpful and to also point out you can collect a free bag or coffee grinds on your way out for use in your garden(it’s a great fertiliser apparently). Don’t use the coffee grind for plants indoors, I made that mistake, as it stinks.
