First time here but seems like it’s the only place to go when you live and dine in Discovery Bay.(Seriously, what else is there to do here?!) We didn’t realise how big the portions were. Ordered the truffle porcini risotto and found it to be filling, creamy and well flavoured. The mussels in white wine were itemised as an appetiser but there were enough for a main. Very yummy and quite fitting for a sunny day overlooking the sea at the discovery deck. Nachos are huge. Could not finish. Nachos were nachos, nothing special. Nachos never need to be anything more than they are to make me happy, though. At the moment, and I’m not sure for how long, the D Deck restaurants are doing a «dine and ride» deal I.e. If you dine over $ 150~ you can get a free ticket on the ferry to Central. After realising there was little else to do in Discovery Bay but hit up Zak’s, we grabbed our tickets and bounced.

There are many times, which I’m sure you have experienced, when I am walking with my friends and/or family and we can’t decide which restaurant to enter for dinner. No one is in the mood for a particular cuisine so we just shrug our shoulders and hope some one else will decide for us. «Zaks?» is the inevitable question. We shrug again and wander to the restaurant. No one complains because we’ve been there fifty times and each time we’ve had nothing to complain about. It has grown to be our safe option — we all have one, or more than one for different neighborhoods. In Discovery Bay mine is Zaks. It’s got a decent menu, Fajitas for the adventurous, burgers for the boring, and salads for the girlfriends… just kidding but seriously, order something else and I won’t joke about it. The food is good, nothing to write home to the parents about. Good. There hasn’t been a time where I have left unhappy — which is a huge positive. The service is friendly and an option of alfresco by the sea, or indoors on the second floor the venue is hard to beat in Hong Kong. A little hint for all you first-daters; fireworks from Disney land start at 8pm each night, 9pm on a Sunday, a great way to impress a fine female after her salad(Just kidding! But seriously…) There is one item on the menu, however, that I dream about on occasion. Their Toblerone baked in a pastry with a dollop of vanilla ice-cream on the side. There is nothing better than a contrasting dessert — hot against cold, soft against crunchy — and this one has it all. The warm chocolate Toblerone helps melt the vanilla ice-cream then mixes perfectly to create series of ‘mmm’s. The pastry adds the contrast in texture, much like a brownie might(don’t get me started on brownies!). In fact we were just there the other night, ate dinner in one restaurant then ran to Zaks for the Toblerone! Divine.
