The ferry pier itself is relatively new and well kept, but finding my way to the pier from the Wan Chai MTR station was a nightmare. Do keep in mind if you take a bus, there are some buses that stop directly outside the pier, so it would be very convenient and almost impossible to get lost if you took those buses to the pier.
From the MTR station though, it is almost a 10 – 15 minute, through bridges and buildings. I definitely asked for directions half a dozen times along the way. There is also construction all around the pier, so even when you’re fairly close to the pier, the ferries won’t stand out too much, just because of all the construction and cranes around it.
The ferry ride to Tsim Sha Tsui is longer than the ride from Tsim Sha Tsui to Central, so if you get sea sick easily and just want to take the Star Ferry, I’d recommend the Central line instead. The view from the pier is really nice, with clean and clear glass panels in the waiting area.

Depends which part of Wan Chai you are at, if you are at the harbour side then feel free to take the ferry if you were to get to Tsim Sha Tsui east (tsim sha tsui in general is ok too). It takes about 10 mins on the ferry, but please take consideration of the waiting time. (not that long at all but spare a few minutes to be safe)
It is a beautiful ferry ride if you go at night as you get to see pretty much the whole of the victoria habour, both hk side and kowloon side. It’s nearly a must do thing if you have visitors from abroad. 2.5hkd and 3.4hkd per person during weekdays and weekends respectively! yes, it is THAT cheap woop woop! happy riding!*=DD

What isn’t there to like? A ride on a classic ferry across the harbour for cheaper than the MTR and less crowded. Sure it might be a bit slower but you won’t be packed in like sardines and you’ll even get to sit. And dont forget the amazing harbour views! Being a mono-​hulled vessel, occasionally there might be some rocking depending on weather conditions. They take cash (change provided) as well as Octopus and a special tourist pass is also available.
Tip: you can reverse the bench seats if you’d like to look at each other or face forward. Generally they’re adjusted to face forward.
Tip: go at night to see all the buildings lit up and pretty!

They are renovating this area so it’s a heavy construction area, but the new pier is open! It’s modern and clean. I love taking the ferry across to Tsim Sha Tsui because it gives me the opportunity to look at the gorgeous skyline, take a moment out of my day to slow down to enjoy the moment, AND it’s cheaper than a bus or the MTR.
