Aqua luna

The idea of riding on a refurbished Chinese Junk boat in Hong Kong Harbor sounds romantic. And indeed it is; especially with a drink in hand, a gentle breeze blowing, eastern music surrounding, and a loved one to share the moment with.
I recommend to board on TST side as that is the first pick up spot, and arrive early to choose desired seats. My kids asked me, «Don’t you want to go upstairs where they have cushioned recliners?» I replied, «No, I want see the sites and feel the breeze up close. But you are welcome to go upstairs if you preferred.»
It was a great experience to be on this beautiful boat to view the harbor with the changing skylight from dusk to night. Magnificent.

While I haven’t actually been on the boat. I always take the opportunity to take a few photos if I see the boat as it portrays the traditional Hong Kong against the backdrop of the modern buildings.
Oh and I’m giving this 5 stars because the pirate that this boat is named after shares the same family/​clan name as me. =P

This is a really worthwhile activity to do whilst you’re in HK. Their ‘antique’ Chinese Junk boat picks you up either from Central pier or from the Tsim Sha Tsui pier in Kowloon for a 45 minute trip round Victoria Harbour at night. During the day they also stop at Wan Chai and Hung Hom. Their circular route means you get dropped off back at the same place you boarded.
You’re helped aboard the refurbished 70-​odd year old boat by the staff, and can either sit on the enclosed upper deck on sofas or on the lower open air deck (I’d suggest the latter for much better views) and listen to chilled music whilst you sail along.
A glass of beer, wine or juice is included with the fare for you to enjoy as you take in the spectacular sights of both HK Island and Kowloon’s skylines, with the boat’s three crimson sails fluttering above you. The sails are purely decorative though, as the barge is actually motorised, but if you drown out the sound you can definitely pretend you’re a pirate ;)

The Aqua Luna is a hand-​crafted vessel property of the Aqua Restaurant Group, which has other cool bars and restaurants in town. It sails around Victoria Harbour doing 45-​minutes harbour cruises day and night.
We picked it for cruising the harbour because of its beauty, because it is allegedly the last remaining of these traditional junks and because there was a free drink (wine) included in the price. Since we wanted to see the famous Symphony of Lights from the water, we thought this was a good way to do it, in a nice traditional ship and sipping a glass of wine. The wine was pretty bad (so –1 star), but the experience was nice, we booked online for the Symphony of Lights cruise sailing at 7.30 pm from Tsim Sha Tsui’s pier 1 (then picks up other people at Central, pier 9, at 7.45 pm, right in time for the lights show).
If you are interested in sailing with the Aqua Luna, and especially for the Symphony of lights sailing, you must book online through their website, they take reservations up to 10 days in advance but they get booked up quickly. And if you want to be among the first ones to pick the best seats, arrive at least 40 minutes before the sailing time.
For us it was the best way to fully appreciate the Symphony of Lights show, that way we got to see the lights on both sides of the harbour, the ship is beautiful but it is certainly more expensive than any other ways to sail the Harbour and watch the lights show.
