One of the more notable chains in HK, Tsui Wah can be found peppering many central locations both in the Kowloon as well as Hong Kong Island. It’s certainly falls into the breakfast category and has a ton of colonial influence. You’ve got Asian people eating mac & cheese, paired with white toast and jam. HOWEVER, I will say that this is still very much a worthwhile breakfast experience and you should always look for anything in HK with condensed milk. If you want something that’s safe and perfectly comfortable to the American palate, just get that. All it is is really delicious(and not too sweet) «icing» that’s spread on a bunch of Hong Kong snacks and foodstuffs. Also get any beef noodle soup. It’s always good to see how it compares to its lackluster American counterpart.

My go to place when I am in Hong Kong. Considered a bit expensive for what it is but very reliable and consistent. The service is quick and efficient. I like the borsch soup and the steamed green veggies. The tangerine drink with honey is to die for. I tried making these myself when I am home. This place is no palace but it does what it does well and you can count on it. Very friendly and they seem to understand sign language which takes patience on their part and is a plus!

A reliable favourite, even if it is just a place you go to, staggering out of a bar/club and need something in your belly to offset the booze! For me, has to be the pork cartilage with fish cake in fish noodle soup. They have some Westerns dishes(tailored to HKG tastes) as well as Malaysian curries. My guests were a little wary, but the HK noodles and wonton noodles they ordered were good! Ample but filling and tasty and open all hours! They have stopped with the free cup of tea which is unfortunate and it seems like they are really looking to upgrade all their restaurants which means same food, just costs you more. Service is basic and you take your bar code receipt to the cashier by the exit to pay cash, credit or octopus(that is an HKG payment system).

Although over priced, I can’t help but give Tsui Wah credit for consistency and standard across their menu. It’s also very foreigner friendly. Everything that I’ve had on their menu has been decent, and this includes the pork cartilage and spinach dumpling with noodles. Another thing I love from here is their BBQ pork bun. It’s a really big size, and they don’t skimp on the filling. They’re always conveniently located and open 24 hours. Can’t get better than that right?

One of the chains with neon light signs that competes with the ubiquitous 茶餐廰s in HK. The price points are a bit higher & the wide menu is a mix of local & localized western fair. A kind of Diner. Oh yeah. Lots of Formica or Formica like surfaces. You pay at the counter so not service charge or tipping.
