My first slightly negative food experience in HK. I had walked past this place a few times while deciding where to eat and somewhere else had always appealed more. Last night my preferred options were busy and so I grabbed the last table here. Initial signs were positive — the welcome was friendly and the atmosphere was buzzy. Unfortunately, the problems centred around the food. The starter of sweetcorn soup did not really taste of sweetcorn unless you happened to stray upon one of the relatively few pieces of corn in the bowl. This in itself was not a big issue. It came accompanied by two croissants which were nice(but a slightly odd choice). I was only about half way through the bowl when my steak came out. I had ordered it medium, although I actually prefer it a bit rarer, because I am still figuring out how HK kitchens’ cook steak. The steak arrived and it was super rare, basically blue. I nibbled away but I don’t think that it even tasted that nice. That said the fries that came on the side were tasty enough. The staff did seem concerned that I wasn’t enjoying the meal and I am sure they would have sorted things out. However, I had to get away so ultimately this wasn’t possible. Ultimately, however, there should not have been any issues to start with.

Another unique little restaurant in the middle of Sheung Wan. The Green Lounge welcomes you into its arms with a bit of trickery. By calling itself the Green Lounge I was expecting some seriously healthy/organic/natural food grown in their own garden. I highly doubt that is the case. With that cleared up I let our a sigh of relief, that meant the food might actually taste good! This place is unique in the way that if offers noodle burgers. I didn’t try one, I was there for brunch and so had some eggs and salmon on a bagel/bread type thing, which was actually pretty good, and I was extremely grateful that they keep there breakfast menu open until lunch. It’s great for lazy people like myself. I know, it was a boring choice but a I don’t think I’m quite ready for a noodle burger just yet, maybe if they made a better photo of burger I would be tempted. Apart from the food the staff were extremely welcoming. This was before we walked in and so I thought, they are just wearing fake smiles so that we’d enter then ignore us for the next twenty minutes while we tried to order. That was not the case, we had quick service, average waiting time for food, and overall a good experience. Initially we went here imagining a decent meal but found that the Green Lounge is best suited to those wanting a between meal snack — brunch or tea. It does have lunch and dinner options but the vibe of the place says between meals, relax, talk and eat a bit.
