The Dutch Cheese and More

Allow me to introduce to you, The Dutch cheese and more ~
I liked the cheese at the tasting, so when I noticed that they do happy hour from 5 — 8 p.m., I told myself I had to come try it out!
$ 75 for 1 glass of wine & 1 cheese platter
$ 100 for 2 glasses of wine & 2 cheese platters
Although I didn’t know how much 2 platter of cheese would be, knowing myself, I knew I wouldn’t be able to finish, I asked the manager whether I would be able to pack the cheese to go if I don’t finish it. He said back to me friendly, «Yes, of course.» I was sold, and decided to stay for the 2 wine 2 cheese happy hour, first happy hour by myself, ever! Well, there’s a first to everything, and I justify this by being a good student and studying after class!
The two cheeses I picked for the platter were Green Pesto and Chili cheese. The Cumin cheese was also super delicious, but I decided to save that for next time. The plate came with a pleasant surprise of crackers along with hot sauce, if desired, to eat with the crackers and cheese. The green pesto, chili cheese, cumin cheese, and red pesto here are considered specialty cheeses, and their other cheeses include gouda aged, gouda young, gouda X.O., plus many more.
I ended up coming here alone yesterday after gym class to study here with some wine and cheese. I originally wanted to come here with friends to try out the happy hour, but since everyone was busy and I needed to study anyways, I figured it will make the studying feel better than it normally does. ;) Verdict? I was correct. It was so much better studying at this cute, cozy, and quiet wine store than at home where there are tons of distractions (i.e., laptop + internet)!
The wines were just OK, but the cheeses more than made up for it. Definitely a must try. The manager, Hank, and his partner in crime, George, are both super friendly. I took my time in choosing the cheese as well as tasting a few different types of wine before actually selecting the wine of choice for my glass of wine.
I ended up studying for an hour and a half, straight to their closing time of 8 p.m. Time flew! I don’t drink coffee or study at coffee shops. I think The Dutch has become my new favorite study spot. :) Can’t wait to come back with my friends for round 2 happy hour at The Dutch! (Though I’m actually eating the leftover cheese right now for a midnight snack… ;D)
Coming for happy hour is totally worth it! It is a good price in my opinion, especially the 2 glasses of wine and 2 cheeses. That’s definitely the one I’d go for when I visit. ;)

Lived in Amsterdam, this is a matter of authenticity. Obviously you lost to Albert Heijn ‘s massive selection (though not prime quality, but already FANTASTIC).
The owner is Dutch had established its focus on gouda cheese. Mainly their young gouda, mature gouda and aged gouda are the hit. They do serve chilli and pesto ones like other cheese museum in the Dam. But the gouda is more a holland production.
They engage a limited decent wine selection that paring is not that necessarily important to this occasion.
They do host seasonally wine or cheese tasting events for FREE. I have not been to any but always put my contact down. In case, alright.

If you have forgotten your wallet at home and feeling a little peckish then I suggest making your way to The Dutch. They provide free samplers of little cubes of cheese, Dutch cheese obviously. That’s not the reason I went, however.
My girlfriend is a proud Dutchie, whenever there is anything resembling her homeland she’s smiling. The Dutch gave her a lot to smile about, and, of course I was dragged along for the ride. We entered the cheese shop, in Sheung Wan, and stopped. I was amazed at the number of wheels of cheese on display, the entire shop was decorated with them! While I was busy counting the wheels my other half wandered around the store, asking the person working there (another Dutchie) about the things they have for sale. Why sell anything else when you can sell a castle of cheese? That was my question anyway. A real sized castle. The Dutch offers a few things, including wine and some typical Dutch spreads. She bought some wine, I bought some Gouda, not an entire wheel mind you, and so we prepared ourselves sufficiently for a little picnic somewhere. On the way out the manager called us back, she had to explain that they also prepared cheese sandwiches and toasties on the spot. Why not? There’s something about melted cheese that only works on three occasions — pizza, macaroni, mozzarella sticks — if it’s not one of those three dishes then I’m not a fan so I just had a normal cheese sandwich. And when it comes to cheese I don’t like mine over stinky or potent. There are some that won’t touch cheese unless it can fell a cow with its pungent odor. Not me. The gouda was pleasantly mild, strong enough to know it’s in the mix but not overwhelming.
Later that night I secretly thanked the Dutchies at The Dutch because now it meant we didn’t need to wait every Christmas for a new order of decent cheese!
