I was looking for something light and have been intrigued by these interesting cross between a crêpe and a sandwich. I ordered the Chef Complete with ham & cheese and opted for the mushrooms(spinach or ratatouille were the other choices). Although the take away was packed neatly in a fancy box, it did not travel well despite barely being 5minuted back to my office. The galette was mushy, cheese hardened, and ham was missing entirely(not that it would have made a difference). This is my second failed attempt to like this place and I really want to like it. Maybe it’s just an acquired taste that I have yet to conquer…

Had a take away salted caramel crêpe as dessert. The crêpe could have been thinner and less dough-y though the caramel was delicious. Not bad for $ 35 hkd. Although I think the choc cake across the road at La Rotisserie is probably better taste for calories and value.

Grain De Sel is one of my favourite lunch options in Sheung Wan. It is pretty much take away only, although there are a few outdoor stools which can be used if you want to eat your food then and there. This can be a nice option on a sunny day. It specializes in galettes, a type of pancake originating from Brittany in France which is made with buckwheat flour, giving it a pleasant nutty flavor. Pretty much anything can be added to a galette from savory ingredients like egg, ham and cheese to sweeter options. Grain De Sel offers a range of ingredients, all of which are absolute winners. My favourite is probably the salted caramel galette. So wrong, in one sense but so nice to eat as a treat! At lunch, they do a set option which allows you to combine one of the savoury galettes and have a salted caramel galette for desert. Pancake perfection! In addition to the pancakes, Grain De Sel sells the best Croissants and Pain Au Chocolats in Sheung Wan. Being on my route to work, it is a constant battle not to grab one to go as I walk by — a battle I am losing on a far too regular basis!
