Great outdoor bar in the centre of the city. Popular with the after work crowd. A good vibe.

This spot is a middle of everything. They say they do steak well, but you still have tough rival Harlan, Blue Butcher not to mention those hotel outlets. Their cocktails are absolutely out of the topic. Nothing sparkles. Their service is relatively fair with high unstabilility. They sell location. They have terrace for alfresco addicts like me. And all the white collar next door at the Centre can serve the demand. Though L Place is full of options, this high-end brand can be a face thing. Happy hour deal is not pleasant nor entertaining to me either. Maybe all my soso experience come from my casual drinks there. I heard their menu is still a thumb-up. Maybe I shall wait and see, or even review this one later.

Shore is the closest expat bar to my office and is generally teeming with office workers near by on any night in the later week. For me, the fact that is close by is as good as it gets. In theory the huge terrace should be a massive selling point but it just doesn’t do it for me. You feel like you’re being watched by the surrounding buildings yet you can’t actually go any people watching yourself as you are closed in. There is absolutely no view — a real shame. I also don’t really dig the contrast between the least terrace and the dark, shiny mirrored interior which feels like a seedy night club. The selection of wines by the glass is so so but the prices are reasonable for the location. The service is also first rate and I’ve heard the food is decent. Unfortunately something about Shore doesn’t click for me so whilst I will often pip in for an early evening tipple, I will never stick around.

Shore is a steak house, bar, and terrace all rolled into one, located in The L Place on Queen’s Road Central. The dining room on the fourth floor specialises in dry aged beef, and they do a good job in putting together some tasty dishes. However, I am more frequently in the bar and terrace area on the third floor, and that is what I am going to report on now! I don’t know why, but expats in HK have an obsession with being in the outdoors. Why sit in the quiet air conditioned bar at Shore, when you can cram on to the terrace in 35DC heat? As such, the bar area in Shore tends to be very quiet. You will often be able to find a seat on their comfy sofas and chairs, in the cool climate controlled area. The drinks and service here is exactly the same as outside. You can enjoy a fine range of beers, wines and spirits, as well as a good selection of snack foods. However, the real action at Shore happens on the terrace, and to be fair, it is one of the best terraces for a Central bar in HK. It is large and spacious(if not too many of the afore mentioned expats are crammed in there), and has a few tented, gazebo areas. The staff do try to keep you cool with fans, but be warned, the terrace is surrounded by tall buildings, so whilst it may be nice to look upward at the HK architecture bearing down on you, the whole area does become a heat trap. Be ready to sweat, and that’s not from the jumping up and down to get wait staff attention. The terrace does get busy, so you may find yourself hollering for service. This place is great for large groups and/or parties. By all means get on the terrace and get sweaty. But, if you are a couple looking for a quiet drink, «everyone be cool» and stay indoors!
