I have heard a lot of compliments on this café and have been longing to visit here. Finally got a chance to come for dinner last weekend. As some had mentioned, there are only limited choices of main dish(basically limited choices on every category, but u wont expect much for a small and cozy café like this) and its dinner time for us, we have had 3 dishes from the food menu. 1. Salmon Truffle x Bibimbap 2. Burrito x Beef Kimbap 3. Pizza x Purple Potato Tart Their fusion ideas are very nice and they match well too. One tiny little thing is that they use microwave for some dishes(due to the very small open kitchen I guess). I would like to visit this place again for their drinks and desserts ~

Seoulmate Café is an inconspicuous little corner conveniently located next to the escalator along with a few other edgy small-size restaurants. It serves a good number of flavoured teas and lattes(i.e marshmallow, sweet purple potato). The choice of food and desserts is limited, however it is just as cute and yummy as what you get in large Korean café chains. Its signature Rice-cake Toast(topped with matcha ice cream for me) is not disappointing, although I wished the matcha flavour could be immersed in the rice-cake fillings of the toast; I liked the black truffle rice with smoked salmon very much(can’t remember the correct name, but it’s a round layered cake of rice and carrot/cucumber salad topped with smoked salmon), the smoked salmon salad and its chilli sauce are yum in warm rice sprinkled with salty seaweed. I will come back for some easy afternoon tea.

I’ve been wanting to go here ever since the new MTR stations opened up in Sai Ying Pun. Sadly the previous few times I came by, it was too late and they were closed. Luckily this past rainy weekend they were open and had plenty of seats available! Seoulmate is a cute Korean café located on Third Street(tip: instead of hiking up to Third street, there are escalators). Although the café itself is small, there was surprisingly a nice patio area in the rear with outdoor seating. They even have mosquito spray by the sink outside! Its a self service café, meaning you order at the front, and are given a buzzer to pickup your food afterward. However there always seem to be staff around to help with what you need. Although they serve a more limited main dish menu, they seem to have a lot of interesting sounding Korean fusion desserts and drinks. We ended up trying the Bulgogi Beef Burrito, the«Purple Potato K-Popping Rice Pizza with Kimchi Sausage», Pumpkin Latte, and the Ricecake Toast with Marshmellow & Oreos for dessert. Bulgogi beef being one of my favorite food; I was a little disappointed with this item. The beef just wasnt marinated enough. The entire burrito was a little bland and dry. On the other hand, the Purple Potato pizza was was quite tasty! Its got a strange balance of sweetness from the potato, the savory side of Kimchi sausage, and served on a rice-based crust. Strange dish but it somehow works! My only complain was that the pizza was much smaller than I had expected. For drinks, the Pumpkin Latte was what I expected, in a good way. Since we werent quite full thanks to the tiny pizza portion, we opted for the Ricecake Toast for dessert. This was really yummy, but as expected, it was also very sweet. It was really something I never had before. I guess the closest comparison of this dish is ‘smores’ but with ricecake base instead of a graham cracker. Overall I’m a fan of Seoulmate Café. The service was really friendly and the food was interesting enough that I will return to try some more.
