Just moved to HK and was looking for a decent breakfast option, and found this place on Unilocal. It’s hidden in a corner, across the Locofama. While perusing the menu of the shop, the friendly waiter stepped out and asked me if I wanted to come in. I opted to sit by the open kitchen — seeing your food being prepared is half the fun of these places. The prices are on the high side, but about what you’d expect for an organic breakfast shop. I got the pancake(108 $) and berry cooler(52 $). The berry smoothie was pretty refreshing, blueberry and waxseed mixed with coconut water. It wasn’t overly sweet like the smoothies you find elsewhere. Pancake was decent but nothing special — however I failed to see the pro tip that they do not wash the berries. What’s up with that? Also, maybe they wash their hands in between, but the people working the cashier also prepare the food. Given the premium I’m paying, I expect there to be no question on the quality and hygiene of the food I’m eating. The place seems super popular with the expat crowd though, so if that’s your thing…

Great food. Good company. Owner was cooler than cool. The music was a definite plus. Made me feel perfect.

Coffee is heavenly. Seriously. I’ve heard great things about the veggie burger and sweet potato fries. I only ended up getting the raw vegan chocolate tart. Yum. And I got a soy cappuccino, I’m seriously so impressed with the coffee here. It’s real coffee. I haven’t had such good coffee since I’ve been in Italy and Australia. They know their coffee beans. :) I also, got a smoothie, the equalizer. I don’t think it’s worth the price. Such a small cup and they don’t fill it all the way. I’d skip the juice smoothie menu. But I’m feigning to go back and try the veggie burger and sweet potato fries. I hung out here for a while when I came, the staff is incredibly friendly and not pushy at all. The ambiance of the café/restaurant is so New York. Cute hanging lights and plants, veggie stands, and a long communal, kitchen table. Really quaint, cozy cool spot. I highly recommend going. The only thing keep me from making it 5 stars is I just think it’s crazy pricey for what it is.

Excellent service and excellent food. Tucked into the end of a little alley, the outside seating is great on a sunny day. We sat underneath the trees in the sun and had the lemongrass pancake, tartine, and black rose tea. One of my favorite food experiences in HK so far.

I had enjoyed dinner at Grassroots Pantry on a previous visit to Hong Kong and decided to pay a visit to Prune when needing something healthy for breakfast one morning. The all day breakfast selection is simple: toast, acai bowls, scrambled eggs with kale and house-made granola. I went for the granola and was really impressed with the generous serve I was given. Packed with oats, seeds, macadamia nuts, and dried chunks of ginger it was really good eaten with a portion of natural yoghurt on the side and a few fresh raspberries and blueberries on top. Prune is tiny and everything is made individually and carefully by a small kitchen team. If you come with a group you’ll probably all start eating at different times, but really this isn’t the place to come when you need a rushed meal. Prune urges you to take things a little slower than normal. To sit, savour and contemplate while drinking organic pots of tea or one of the interesting smoothie combinations. Take the time to pay a visit.

This sister café of Grassroot Pantry offers all day breakfast, all menu beverage, signature cakes, seasonal menu a la carte etc. Similar deco tone as Grassroot Pantry next door, with big coffee table to welcome laptop individuals and small chat crews. It keeps the open kitchen which carries on its freshness guarantees spirit. But the vantlization failed to keep the smell and smoke away. it could be a bit uncomfortable for coffee only seekers. As a Deli, it also sells their homemade organic goods. Packed in lovely eco wrap, the granola wake you up with some low fat yogurt. And they offer the Australian Goat steam beer ale, organic. I think highly of their furniture, bohemian twist. The wooden table remain consistent of Grasspantry’s garden style. It does remind me those tranquil eatery/café in Italy or France. Houseware can have stronger personality though.
