This place is rather difficult to find. The food was just about greasy, and I’ve had better in other places in the area. The service was ok, although the language barrier was still an issue. 1 star because — 1. The crab appetiser put me off, it was imitation crab which I didn’t expect for the price. The same was rancid and I had to send the dish back 2. The noodles were not fresh. I’ve had noodles all over the mainland and in HK, this was the worst by far It would be very difficult for me to recommend this place or think about returning

I thought this place was okay — good dim sum, but nothing out of this world. There are a few standout items, but a lot of it was a little on the greasy side, and I’ve had better dim sum in San Francisco and Vancouver. Maybe I’m being picky, but I think you can find better food to eat in Hong Kong. The best dish by far was the pineapple BBQ pork buns, followed by the deep fried sesame balls /dumplings with black & white sesame. Whatever you do, don’t leave without getting these BBQ pork buns — they are some of the best that I’ve ever had. As for the rest, here’s my verdict: Excellent: — BBQ Pork Buns: Soft, fluffy, and the outside doughy /bun part just melts in your mouth. The inside BBQ pork is perfect and the proportions are just right. I could’ve eaten 5 of these. There’s a reason why every table get this. Don’t miss it. You get 3 per order, so order accordingly. — Deep Fried Dumplings with Black & White Sesame: I’m used to these being made with mochi on the outside and coated in a peanut flour, and then the name on the menu says it’s a dumpling, but it’s more like a little deep fried sesame ball(size of a golf ball) and without the red bean filling, but with a black sesame filling. I loved these and would definitely recommend it. Okay: — Leek & dried scallop dumplings: A bit on the greasy side. The filling was good, but I’ve had better elsewhere. — Glutinous rice w/chicken in lotus leaf: Good, but the proportion of rice to filling could have been better. Needed more meat, etc. — Egg Tarts: Super mini, but it’s fine because I didn’t really need to eat so many full-sized ones. Thought the crust was a bit dense and could have been flakier but maybe I’m just being overly critical. The inside was nice and custardy. Not the best I’ve ever had in my life, but decent. You get 3 little ones per order. Pass: — Shrimp in rice noodle roll: Skip this — the wrapper is super thick, gummy, and overly glutinous. I know it’s a rice noodle, but this doesn’t taste fresh at all. — Shrimp dumplings(har gow): I’m used to bigger pieces of shrimp inside of the dumplings. Not bad, but the inside felt like the hot dog of shrimp dumplings — kind of fish ball /indistinguishable ground up seafood. It was also a bit on the greasy side. Decent dim sum, but nothing that I’d come seeking out again — maybe only for the BBQ pork buns! I didn’t have time to explore more dim sum options in Hong Kong(next time!), but I don’t think I’d give this place a solid recommendation. I think you can probably do better.

Who doesn’t like dim sum? I get visitors to Hong Kong every… I would say month or so. This is my excuse to visit my utmost beloved dim sum restaurant. I love dim sum, and when I say I love it, I really truly do. I can eat it everyday, if only the calories weren’t so unforgiving. I would say I am pretty picky about my dim sum, but there’s really nothing I can do about it, I loved it so much, the first year I was in hk, I would try a new dim sum restaurant every weekend. I thought I had a favourite for a very long time… that was until I found Che’s. They don’t have a huge selection like some restaurants, nor do they do ultra creative, super pretty looking dim sum. They do the good ol’ dim sum but do it extremely well. The dishes they serve are more fine that a lot of big Canto restaurants. Where some restaurants serve 4 pieces, they unfortunately only serve 3. Some of the must try’s include the Pineapple BBQ pork bun, it’s the best I’ve had, the custard bun(which I normally don’t even touch at other restaurants), the pan-fried pancake(it looks and sounds simple, but if you gave me a bag and a tv, I’d easily eat them like potato chips) and the egg tarts –small but highly addictive. Funny thing is, most of these dishes, i normally wouldn’t even eat at other dim sum places, even when it’s ordered, i usually won’t touch them, but here at Che’s, I actually crave for them. I don’t know what it is, it’s just done exceptionally well. I haven’t had a visitor this month yet… but I’m missing this restaurant just thinking about it. Maybe this weekend. hmmmmmm…
