Had lunch here with a friend last Christmas. Tried the BLT sandwich lunch set which is nothing special. Portion is small for the price paid and because the place is small, we could not stay long during lunch hour. The illy’s coffee is good but there are other more comfortable coffee places in the area.

You know those annoying customers who ask a million questions and request a million substitutions every time they order? SOOOANNNNOYING. But that was me at Bo-Lo’gne, teehee. Though I was ever so annoying, the nice waitstaff showed me nothing but patience. For every million questions I asked, he countered with a million helpful answers. When I finally placed my order, I felt like I was making a very well-informed decision, which is more than a 2007 American real estate investor could say. Since both my sister and Jef Y. had placed their stamp of approval on the bread, I was really looking forward to it. However, it was their Pasta that turned out to be the showstopper. The Bacon&Egg Pasta(similar to a carbonara) is their pasta representative of their Monday lunch set. It comes in a moderate portion with two slices of toasted bread(more on that later), a side salad, and a splendid cup of coffee. The first thing I noticed was that the spaghetti had a firm texture, or as Unilocalers like to call al dente. It contrasted very well with the cream sauce, which was not overbearing at all. Kudos to Bo-Lo’gne for also preparing the mushroom and the bacon separately from the spaghetti. I have much appreciation for pasta toppings that aren’t all mushy from being cooked together. And of course, the bread! Thick and crispy, with a thin layer of butter that might as well be the cherry on top. I could eat that stuff all day without calling any Carbocide Hotlines. I enjoyed these delights one at a time while looking out the window onto Aberdeen Street. Having lunch alone isn’t half bad when you have a nice waitstaff, delicious food, and an interesting view. I would definitely swing by Bo-Lo’gne a few more times for just their loaves. It’s a tad pricey, but so is that LKF cocktail you bought for the girl that you’ll never see again. The Bo-Lo’gne loaf, however, is guaranteed to go home with you ;)

Japanese are always interesting in the sense that they package their products to make them meaningful and heart warming. Bo-Lo’gne is a Japanese western restaurant specialised in their bread /toast, which are made of 81 folds or dough(similar to the buttery folds of croissant). As explained by the poster on the wall, 9 means forever in Chinese /Japanese(?!) and 9×9 = 81 means forever forever. Hmmm… anyway, the toast is whatsoeverly good with cream and jam. The coffee is quite a big mug from the Japanese standard, which is good and fulfilling.
