Doppio

Doppio has been around for quite some time in the nearby area Crooswijk, but this venue was only recently opened.
They have a wide range of different gelato flavors, and the ones I’ve tasted were delicious.
Doppio sells itself as a gelato and coffee shop, so it’s tempting to have a lungo with your crispy cone and chocolate gelato. However during my first visit the coffee was, as a friend of mine once put it, like lovemaking in a canoe: f*cking close to water. If you’re promoting yourself as a coffee shop, your coffee should be of high quality and well served. Luckily, during my second visit, the espresso was perfect.
However, I am disappointed in the interior. I was hoping for a cozy coffee shop where I could spend rainy afternoons. They decided to go for an industrial and minimalistic style, leaving the inside nearly empty with perhaps three tables with accompanying chairs, probably to leave enough room for possible queues. Outside they have placed a few supported planks that serve as benches. Not the right kind of furniture to sit down and enjoy the sun and gelato.
In hindsight, I might have looked into the «coffee» part too much, and should’ve realized it’s actually all about the gelato. But then again, they shouldn’t have promoted it like a coffee shop.
