Wow! This place has VERY excellent selection of single malts as well as other spirits. They let you taste before buying. The staff is knowledgable and more than willing to share. Most recommended if your a fan of single malt whisky. This place is a real gem. Cheers.

I don’t even like whisky that much, but this place has Ambiance.(Yes, with a capital A.) I wanted a tasting, and since I was there with my partner, we were offered to combine two three-portion tastings, so we got to try six different varieties. It was educational and fun.

This place is quite a treat for any whiskey, bourbon or scotch drinker. Massive menu — most, but not all of which, were in stock during our visit. Small place but great atmosphere and vibe. Definitely worth a stop… or four.

Very cosy place with a lot of atmosphere. Only went there with a new colleague for a nightcap(a 1995 Lagavulin from a Pedro Ximénez cask, bottled in 2011 — and a pint), but the selection of whiskies they have is staggering. They even have a selection of Scottish Malt Whisky Society bottlings! I will definitely be back for a wee dram if I can next time I am in Amsterdam.

Finally a place to call your own that isn’t a brown bar with piss poor beer or is a wine bar. I am surprised there isn’t a line to get in and be seated at all times. L&B does one thing and does it right. Whiskies. They have other drinks, like Coke, too, but that’s not why you were looking for a whiskey bar now was it. The walls are adorned with artifacts from time immemorial. The entrance makes you believe that it’s another crappy ‘authentic’ restaurant in the Leidseplein area, only to fool you afterwards. They have flights or you could do it the right way — by drinking bottles of whisky. And quite a good selection they have. I am no connoisseur, but there are names on the list that I have never heard before. Prices are decent — you wouldn’t stop coming back just because you had a good time without bumping into tourists or beer drinkers. Now all they need is a whisky buffet.

If you love whisky and you’re in Amsterdam, this is the place to go. They offer an enormous menu containing whiskies from all the obvious countries, with a broad range: blends, classic single malts, older distillery editions, independent bottlers, and even some rare bottlings of their own whisky club. The menu is a book, conveniently organised by region and distiller. A la carte prices are fair, but you might get even better value when you take one of the tasting menus. The staff here know their merchandise. According to my brother, who has been here more often, there’s also a special menu where you pay upfront for a tasting six different whiskies selected by the staff. After each sample, you’re supposed to give feedback on how you liked it, and based on that, they will select the next dram for you. Sadly, when I visited this place, we didn’t have the time for an extensive tasting, so we just selected from the menu book. Hopefully next time!

If you love, like or appreciate whisky, you HAVE to have been to L&B at least once in your life. It’s somewhat hidden behind the lively tourist antics of Leidseplein, but when you’ve found it you’re in good hands! With a selection of over 1001 whisky’s, there’s surely something for everyone here. I’d suggest trying one(or more) of their whisky menu’s: selections of three whisky’s that fit together perfectly. Don’t worry… the bartender will tell you what order to drink them in. If you’re a connoisseur however, they surely will have whatever it is you’re looking for. As long as it’s whisky that is!

«My secret weapon» Every guest I take is blown away as soon as they enter the whiskey bar. Absolutely perfect. The old timey, lord of the rings, magical vibe. The actual turntable for music– all 45’s. Yes, it’s true– the bartender is blowing your mind with his whiskey knowledge and simultaneously spinning vinyl. I know… It’s amazing. Beautiful whiskey selection, passionate bartenders, and not a hint of pretentiousness. They always have nice drafts to help soothe the bite from the spirit. This is one of the few places that I frequent. An Amsterdam treasure for sure!

If you like whiskey… Here you go. All varieties– it’s small so you shouldn’t expect to get whiskey drunk, but the bartender is tongue and cheek! Maybe not an all night spot, but good for a night cap! Ambiance/bar is pretty cool.

You’ll read this over and over again in the various reviews: cozy. This place really is. It’s small… and if you like scotch in all its permutations, this place is for you. This little nook is half a block down from the main bar street called Leidsekruisstraat, which itself is a block away from Leidseplein. It’s open every night after 8 pm… but given its size, I’d recommend visiting earlier in the week. The samplers are great if you don’t know what you like… but if you do, you can explore the regional spirits around your favorite region. Be prepared for a second selection, especially if you choose something a little less common. My most recent substitution was swapping out another bourbon when they told me they were out of Basil Hayden… but as I said, their list is huge(1400+) so a second choice was pretty easy. As important(IMHO) as the drink is the atmosphere. You can expect a chilled out music selection playing in the background(no beats… just old jazz standards and the like) which makes this place feel like a great place to go, relax and catch up with an old friend. If you’re not a fan of scotches, they do have some beer and wine… but in that spectrum, you won’t be able to be too choosy.

Itty bitty, teeny tiny whisky bar located just off the Leidseplein. This place is great. Full of locals and expats looking to sample some whiskey; they have everything from smoky to sweet and back again. Try one of the samplers where you can taste 6 different selections from their menu. Pair it with some bar nuts from the 1euro machine and you’re set for a great night.

Situated on what seemed to be a side street near the Leidseplein was a hidden jewel of a place filled to the brim with whiskey galore, more than enough to satisfy, please, enjoy and savor. It was dark, crowded and small with nooks and crannies to sit and chat in or places at the bar to visit with the locals or anyone else passing through. Crammed behind the bar were rows upon rows of the world’s whiskey waiting to be tasted, sipped, pondered over and truly enjoyed. It’s definitely a place to while the world away over a glass of whiskey. It’s a cozy place with drink to warm your soul. I loved it.

Love love love the Whisky Café! I would go every evening after work if my liver and pocket book would let me. They have over one million whiskeys to choose from. Alright, maybe it just seems that way. There is certainly more than any other place in Amsterdam. Seriously if you grab the full menu it is certainly overwhelming. Even if you know your whiskey a little. The taste special are a good way to avoid the confusion. You will get three different glasses at a slight discount if you bought them individually. They also have beer on tap so not to worry for those of you in the group who don’t like whisky. The interior is dark with hardly a place to stand but if you can find a precious seat it is great. The walls are literally lined with whisky boxes and bottles. Really great effect to add to the ambiance. It has become a tradition to come here after a show at the Paradiso or Melkweg.

We wanted to start our first night in Amsterdam with a little class, and so we were ;ed here, to the classy Whisky Café L&B. This is a classic whisky joint. Dark, tiny, everything made of wood, the smell of smoke in the air even though smoking isn’t allowed. The works. A giant square bar is placed so you have to go around it to find a place to sit. This can be rather awkward as people are standing all around. I ended up a tab bit claustrophobic in the middle of our stay and had to get some air. Our tall friend also accidentally knocked over someone’s drink he was sitting near. I can’t stress enough how cramped this space is. However, once you find your spot and get yourself comfortable, it’s damn fantastic. Great whiskies, fast and friendly bartenders and a spot where you feel like you spend your entire time in Amsterdam in and still have a damn good trip. A damn good ‘Damn trip.

So much whisky love! This place has great atmosphere, the bartenders are friendly and helpful, and the selection of whiskies is incredible. If you don’t know exactly what you want and are intimidated by the endless menu, you can ask the bartender for recommendations according to your tastes and budget. Friendly, social and chill atmosphere. I will definitely return the next time I’m in Amsterdam.

I think this is what the Dutch mean when they say«gezellig» as this place is SO cozy! I brought a few friends here who were all from out of country and all a bit upscale/used to really lovely places. Imagine me making a slam-dunk move right now, because that’s what this place was: a slam dunk. The walls are full of bottles and lables and interesting things to look at. It’s very small, keeping it cozy and warm inside. The lighting is beautiful. The bartenders know their whiskey and are happy to lead you down a belly-warming journey. I can hardly wait to bring more people here. It’s stylish and very, very cool. Enjoy!

Wandering Leidseplein, the beautiful amber interior is what caught my eye. We cozied up in a corner situated above the bar to browse the extensive menu. When we casually asked the bartender for a «cheap, good whiskey,» we got a few laughs. But hey, we’re students! And ask and you shall receive. He supplied us with an Irish whiskey that was fantastic.
