Delicious! Service takes a while so I wouldn’t recommend this spot if you’re in a hurry but the food was absolutely wonderful!

Great place for breakfast/brunch if you ever visit Amsterdam! Service was friendly(as is Amsterdam in general), and the food was clean, simple, yummy! They have indoor and outdoor seating with cute décor inside if you choose to stay indoors. For the food and drinks, my friend and I got orange juice to be healthy & then we tried the eggs benedict & eggs florentine. Both were pretty good! Price was decent and didn’t cause a dent at all in our 3-week-semi-backpacking Europe trip :)

Yep. I’m a stickler for 5 star reviews, and no this place isn’t out of this world. But what it is, is really great at what they do. We went for a brunch and had our choice of seats outside. In this lovely neighborhood, outside is the place to be. They have a good menu and I was happy to get the breakfast combo. Plenty of food that even came with a mini cheese course. I ordered a black breakfast tea and it was loose-leaf. It’s the little touches that make things special. The food was really good! The croissant was better than most you’ll find outside of France, so that was a plus. It was plenty of food too! Very happy with it. First we had a woman server, and I guess she left when we got a male server. Both were extremely pleasant! When paying he was a big help because I was having an issue with my pin card and with two failed attempts, he told me that I should go to my bank because the third time means the card won’t work anymore. Luckily my friend was there to bail me out of the embarrassing situation, but I am very thankful that he told me that! I went straight to the bank and fixed it. Service with a smile may not be too common in Amsterdam, but it’s just wonderful when you get it! I will definitely go back and can’t wait!

Looking for a solid breakfast with no frills attached then look no further. Great brunch at a great price. Casual and pleasant eating environment and friendly helpful staff will make your experience here an enjoyable one. Coffee was on a scale of 1 to 5 where 5 is a coffee ‘not to forget’ here at Valerius was a 3. I would have given it 4 stars but the menu is not exactly brimming with options. All in all a solid satisfying brunch spot.

Eggs Benedict Doctor Cluck’s Verdict: «Severe Eggcident in the Banstraat; 2 people dead.» After reading lots of good reviews on Valerius we decided to have brunch at Valerius. We had the salmon sanwich and the eggs benedict. The eggs were undercooked and the eggs benedict were served on hard bread. not sure if that is common in the Netherlands, but the soft texture of the poached eggs with the ham should be supported by a soft bun. That is the whole purpose of the dish. the eggs benedict should be swimming in hollandaise sauce, but the eggs benedict were only served with a drizzle of Hollandaise sauce, which was a pity. Salmon with the poached eggs was okay. Here, the eggs were also undercooked. The eggswhite was still runny. A definate no-no for an egg lover!

Valerius’ meals and guests have one thing in common: they’re both pimped. All of them? The meals for sure. Let me explain. 1) When you live in Amsterdam, you’re used to see natural people every day, right? That’s why it’s striking to enter Valerius. It might be a coincidence but I heard that the Museumkwartier is a neighbourhood with a high density of beauty docs. 2) When you live in Amsterdam, you’re used to see the same menus every day, right? So when you see the one at Valerius’ you might be disappointed. There are no exciting fancy meals or combinations to find on it. Just the ordinary salads, broodjes, breakfast and lunch options. BUT at Valerius they know how to dress up ordinary meals to make them look and taste deliciously posh. The interior and the service match the great food to make Valerius a classy yet comfy place for an enjoyable breakfast or lunch with friends.

This spot is pretty good for breakfast and brunch. I had the Uitsmijter of Rorei Naturel, which is basically scrambled eggs with ham and tomato for about 8 euros with the extra add on. The price isn’t too bad, I would have thought this place would be at least 15 euros, judging how the place looks but it was pretty damn affordable to my surprise, much more affordable than say LA food of this level which is equivalent to at least $ 15 + 15−20% tip. They say food in Europe is expensive, but not really. The service is great for such a busy place, it’s a really nice sit down place and relaxing to start your day. They speak English here if you don’t know how to read the Dutch menu, but it’s pretty much easy to figure out. The food is more than decent, fresh and a good portion size. I’ll definitely be coming back to this place. Price — Good value to portion Atmosphere — Nice décor, clean, lively. free WiFi Category — Casual moderate dining Taste — Fresh home made cooked Service — Good, quick and helpful

Highly recommended! Delicious breakfast! We had the espresso, which was served with a lovely little biscuit-cookie, and for breakfast the Greek yogurt with fresh fruit(great variety and all ripe), as well as the Eggs Florentine(great flavor with a delicious pair of tiny tomatoes on the side). Yum!!!

We had brunch. Good coffee, nice Dutch style thick pancakes for the kids. Open face meatloaf sandwich was very good with a bit of a spicy sauce. Eggs florentine came out a bit overlooked though. All in all good experience. Friendly and helpful staff.

Great place for breakfast in an extremely nice neighborhood. The host was super friendly and helpful in navigating the menu in Dutch only. We ordered the Benedict and fried eggs with bacon, ham and cheese on a toast. Very tasty. And yeah– latte was great too! Highly recommend, especially if you don’t like touristy places.

Valerius is my favourite lunch and brunch place in the old South and I am also pleased to hear it has opened for dinner, although I haven’t tried dinner there yet. I have lunch and brunch here many times and have never been disappointed-the food is great and well priced, the staff attentive and professional and the coffee fantastic. The menu is seasonal and I had a great watermelon and strawberry salad in summer and now, in autumn, a delicious salad nicoise with seared tuna. Their fresh mixed juice is also lovely. I can’t fault it.

One of our favorites places for lunch in Amsterdam-South is ‘Valerius’. The owner and his personal are adorable. It is possible to make reservations, which is quite unique and summers it is lovely to eat outside. What is more and very important, the atmosphere is very relaxed. Unlike many other Amsterdam-South places, here it is not a matter of ‘seen and being seen’. On the menu you’ll find for instance sourdough bread with a variety of honest fillings and spreads. My favorite is the one with grilled vegetables and in summer time the salad with strawberries. But on the menu you will also find homemade quiche and soup and the not to be despised hot carrot cake, cheesecake and brownies. They also serve breakfast(with for instance pancakes) and on wednesday and saturday they also do dinner!

This little family friendly restaurant is tucked away off the beaten path right next to the museum district. The ambiance is clean, open, and full of sun light. We stopped here for a bite right before heading off to get cultured. There’s no English menu, but the waiter patiently translated every item on the list. Everything we ordered was absolutely tasty and hit the spot! The coffee was strong, the orange juice freshly squeezed, and they piled on avocado for my BLTC sandwich(YUM). It was a much needed change of scenery after wondering around the more touristy parts of Amsterdam. Don’t know when I’ll be returning next, but I will definitely recommend this join to anyone who’s visiting!

Very cute café near the Vondelpark area. We walked there from our hotel and enjoyed a lovely breakfast. I had a continental with various breads, cheese, eggs, coffee and juice. My husband had a croissant with ham, along with pancakes.(We hadn’t had a real meal after a full day of travel, so we did it up!) Delicious coffee, and the best butter I’ve had in the longest time. Attentive and friendly service complimented the laidback atmosphere. A great start to our day walking all over Amsterdam. Highly recommend for those trying to avoid more touristy spots.
