The White Tulip Hostel

Great hostel right in the city center. Minutes away from everything. Host are great except for the the girl in the morning who walked in to the room to tell us we had 10 min to check out while we were all still asleep !
* walking distance from great bars, coffee shops, food, museums, etc.
* make sure to park by train station and take tram to central — cheapest price.

This place is right in the heart of the city on one of the main streets with shops and clubs right in the red light district; very cool, but very loud. Bring earplugs. It is literally… wait…yes, literally directly across the street from a gay club with another just two doors down. Plenty of straight clubs very close, too, of course. The staff was very helpful, especially Andrew. He had lots of good advice from using the lockers to which club to go to. There are large lockers right under your bed and you can get a lock for a € 5 deposit. There was one large coed bathroom on our floor with nice, large shower stalls but tiny toilet stalls which gets a bit busy in the mornings, so plan ahead. All in all, it was great. I’d stay there again for sure.

Pretty nice hostel, and the people who work here have been very nice. The beds are über comfortable, the rooms aren’t as loud as they could be, AND like someone else commented, the bathrooms are cleaned very regularly! (Although I HIGHLY recommend bringing some sort of shoes to wear in the showers, which are just closet-​sized tile rooms with a nice shower head… Water gets everywhere) Also, because my friend and I checked in about an hour early they upgraded us to the 8 person room instead of the 12 person room!
You can put a deposit down for a lock that goes on the large metal trunk under your bed (two per bunk bed /​1 per person) which I believe was about 5 €. Sheets and blankets also came with the room. I’m not sure about towels, because we brought our own, but I did see that they had them here… Just not sure about any price… If they did charge for towel use, I’d assume it wouldn’t cost more than 5 € to use one during your stay.
One thing I didn’t like was that the wifi SUCKS. On another website it was stated that wifi is available in all parts of the hostel, which is 100% false. Granted, I’m in bed right now and am able to somewhat use the wifi with the one bar I have, but… Hey, you get what you pay for, right? :) It’s super cheap, and like the other commenter said, it’s right in the center of the coolest little cafes and stuff. (It’s also on the edge of the red light district, so if you’re not careful it’s easy to wind up there. Just know where you’re going and keep your wits about you!)
Lastly (and semi unrelated) I highlyyyyy recommend trying the waffles and crepes place a few doors down… Definitely worth it, whatever time of the day or afternoon or evening you are craving a sweet or savory snack ;)

It might not be the worlds best hostel but it’s the first one I stayed at so I’ll give it an extra star for that! I’ve spent an accumulative 15 days at the White
is primarily a place to just rest your head after a looooong Amsterdam day, but sometimes a little more than that can go on. Most cafes in the area close at midnight and bars around 2. Unless you want to head to a different part of town the only other option is to go kick it with your room mates. Being a 12 person room usually its a melting pot of people from all over… sometimes they speak English sometimes they don’t.
Both times I stayed in the Tulip I stayed on the first floor in the room next to the vending machine. I think it’s 101. Unlike most other Hostels there is no central common space but a small sitting area with coffee table in the middle of every floor. Each room also has its own small table for you to share with your 11 room mates. Individual lockers are located in the rooms as well. Every morning some dude comes bursting in and he might not be the friendliest, but he gets the place clean quick. He changes sheets for the new arrivals cleans the room table, sweeps the floor, and takes out the trash. He usually comes storming in at around 10 or 11 so it’s not crazy early. The hardwood floors are surprisingly clean with no stains or stickiness to them.
THE BATHROOMS!!! CLEAN. Seriously maybe not clean by the standard of your home shower but I’d say very clean by the standard of there being 5 shower stalls and toilets to service a floor with roughly 36 people. I don’t know how there is never a line but I always seem to get in and out. Now I must warn you the shower stall is tight. I’m about 6 foot 210lbs. You can rotate in the shower just enough to wash yourself but the shower heads are a little low. For some reason touching the shower walls gross’ me out so I try not to. The toilets get cleaned I think several times a day or maybe like 5 am and sometime late afternoon. I don’t know but what I do know is I heard some dude throwing up and obliterating a toilet stall then leave that stall to just do it again in the next for an entire night till about 4 am. When I woke up with a stomach ache at about 6:30 fear struck me thinking about what I was about to walk into… it was crazy… all the toilets were spotless.
With residence at WT you get 10 or 15% off several food places located close by.
The White Tulip is about a 10 minute walk from Central Station near plenty of cafes food and bars.
