The reviews on this place gave us the perception that this place was awesome. It wasn’t. The pancake items were a bit overpriced and did not hit the mark. However, we did order the French onion soup to start. DELICIOUS! To drink, we had hot mint tea accompanied by a caramel stroopwafel. I ordered the CAPRESE pancake. Tastewise… it was okay and a bit underwhelming. My hubby ordered the GREEK pancake. Way off on taste. Two thumbs down. They should have worked with someone who is Greek so that they would have a better understanding of how the flavors should come together. They did not live up to my expectations.

Favorite place I ate at while visiting Amsterdam. Despite the crowded dining room, my party was seated in less than 15 minutes, an appreciated thing since we showed up hungry and tired from all-day sightseeing without proper meals. Once seated, we had our orders promptly taken. With my wife, I split both a Ham and Cheese Savory Pancake and a Banana Sweet Pancake. My in-laws ordered a Norwegian Savory Pancake, and also a Ham one. The pancakes were excellent, though not the best I’ve ever had. Of the pancakes, my favorite was the Norwegian, which had smoked salmon, sour cream, and cheese. Simply divine with a squeeze of lemon and a pinch of salt. Highly recommend the Pancake Bakery if you’re in Amsterdam. It’s food to remember.

Stumbled upon this quaint, friendly Amsterdam Pancake restaurant, and what a treat it was! I had the Icelander(vegetarian), my daughter had the Hungarian, Yummy! The staff was friendly, helpful and always smiling. They new we were traveling and invited us back again to try something new tomorrow :) And we might just might make it back to have a desert pancake. The place was packed when we were leaving and there was a line out the door, so go early. Even if you have to wait, it’s well worth it!

The Pancake Bakery is in a prime location, close to the Anne Frank Huis. They have several kinds of pancakes, both savory and sweet. These pancakes are more crêpe-like. The poffertjes are similar to ebelskivers or American silver dollar pancakes, but more fluffier. I would admit that the simpler pancake we tried, the apple pancake, was the better of the two items we ordered. We tried the poffertjes Autumn special, which had whipped cream, chocolate, fruit compote, etc… and the poffertjes were just lost in all of those toppings. I like how the coffee came with a small stroopwafel. Bathrooms are on the second floor.

Unfortunately this did not live up to the hype. The best thing we tried was the traditional pea soup, very fresh and flavorful. Norwegian– very… creamy… The insides were way to creamy and sour, it made the pancake wet and then ruined its structural integrity. Greenlantic– interesting combination, the cheese hunks didn’t melt on the pancake and then created this big hunky green cheese globs. Bacon/mushroom/onion — really heavy and salty, the pancake didn’t really come through with this one, tasted again like hunks of stuff. The sweet pancake we tried was the best, stick with that. The whipped cream and chocolate sauce didn’t seem homemade. The waitstaff were friendly and pretty fast. Also easy to get a table. Overall, the pancakes themselves weren’t bad, but nothing amazing and not executed well. No free wifi.

I didn’t spend as much time in Amsterdam as I would’ve liked to have, but if there was one thing that I really felt was a must while I was there, was to get some Dutch pancakes. This particularly morning was a whirl trying to catch trains and making a scheduled ticketing at the Anne Frank Huis, so needless to say, I was quite ravenous by the time I had just finished being made severely depressed. Thankfully, the Pancake Bakery is barely a block down the street from the Anne Frank Huis, so there’s not nearly as much distance to risk getting run over by 4,000 bicyclists to get there. It was promising upon arrival, because it’s almost literally a hole in the ground; from the street, you have to walk down some steep steps and duck your head under a door that even someone like me who isn’t six feet tall still has to duck into. The interior is kind of rustic and homey-feeling, with a warm atmosphere, but still busy, based on the sheer number of occupied tables. Thankfully, my girlfriend and I clearly missed a brunch rush, because we were able to be seated pretty quickly upon arrival, and watched quite the queue develop minutes after we had arrived. Perhaps everyone else was still in the gargantuan line to get into the Anne Frank Huis. Anyway, service is nice, and as is the case with most of Amsterdam, very good English speakers, so there was never any concerns over communication. I ordered a pancake that came covered in cheese, mushrooms and bacon, and it arrived like it was the size of a small pizza almost. Although it was delicious and I ate every single morsel of food on my plate, I couldn’t help but think just how delicious it probably would have been had I gotten a sweet pancake instead of a savory; I guess since I hadn’t had any breakfast up until that point, the idea of savory protein seemed like a good idea, but I think the logical conclusion is that I should’ve channeled my inner fat American and just gotten a sweet pancake as well. Overall, I thought this place was pretty good. It was a convenient location, tourist friendly, great product, at not a price point that makes me scrunch my brow when reading the menu.

This is my second time to visit this store. maybe I was lucky in 3 years ago, I never wait so long to get into the store and don’t really remember I had to wait so long to get my pancakes are came… anyhow, this time was really«waiting» experience I got. I totally understand that this kind of famous store has a long line to get in & have to wait to get your order. but I recommend to you to skip this store if you are hurrying to visit, searching Amsterdam. The Pancake is just GREAT!!! I love both of them I had. (My husband and I shear a bite of. 1, Chocolate source + whipped cream + vanilla ice cream, 2, Bacon + cheese) very very simple, great potion, just right for me. If you are truly looking for«eat» in your trip, this is the one of the best pancake place to go. but again, if you have a tight schedule, try some other easy store near your hotel.

Definitely a must-try spot when in Amsterdam. For us Americans we’d consider the Dutch pancake more like a thick crêpe. But, don’t let this fool you because this place served very good pancakes. The savory one we had that I totally enjoyed is the one with bacon, cheese, and mushrooms. Definitely hours the spot if you’re looking for something savory. We tried the Dutch pancake to be, well, Dutch. It’s on the sweet side with pieces of chocolate stroopwafel(omg to die for!), huge fluffs of whipped cream, and two heaping scoops of cinnamon ice cream. It’s very sweet, and all the pancakes are huge portions, so think about splitting with someone. Order a cup of coffee, it goes well with the sweet pancakes after the meal. The staff are very friendly and attentive. They speak English so it’s a great experience for tourists who might be doubting eating out for lack of communication. The staff are locals so they have great tips and suggestions on what to eat and see around Amsterdam.

I visit this place when i visit Amsterdam. Never disappoints me. It’s a great place, the product that they offer is excellent and yummy, and the service is excellent(people, you are in different country with different customs, get over it!) The pancakes, both sweet and savory are delicious. There wasn’t any waiting time and the attentive servers took the orders quickly and accurately. The décor of the place creates a very nice friendly atmosphere. The facilities are well kept. Nothing to complain about.

Why are the Dutch such happy people? Giant pancakes for breakfast and legal marijuana! Yumb on the pancakes and I will bet they are even better after a little self indulgence… These pancakes are delicious and huge. Great spot for a quick breakfast. You need to get there early because it fills up very quickly in the morning.

Me and my friend where looking for a place near our apartment to have lunch. As we were not so hungry we decided to try those«Dutch pancakes». We stopped by this place and we ordered a pancake with bacon and one with cheese. The one with bacon was very good. Not too much salty either sugar. The bacon is included in the dough and it was tasty. The one with cheese was not so tasty in our opinion. It was just a pancake but you can’t feel the cheese such as bacon. So i suggest you to buy the bacon one! Pancakes are 5 euros. Anyway I gave a look to other tables: club sandwiches are huge! For 7.5 euros everybody has to try one! Smoothies seem very good and soups too.

I was super excited to try this place based on all the Unilocal reviews. I asked the server for help on what to order and he just recommend The Dutch pancake. He didn’t want to be bothered with any questions. The Dutch pancake was way too sweet, we told one of there servers we didn’t like it, however they didn’t bother to ask if we wanted something else. The service was terrible and I think all the hype has been a huge disappointment. Wish we could have had a better experience.

Grandios! Gern wieder!

What’s not to like at a place that serves dutch pancakes as big as your head(or even bigger)? It’s a touristy restaurant, but not at all a tourist trap. I love their pancakes, specially the mushrooms with cheese and bacon — simple, tasty and comfy. They’re huge, so it’s wise to share if you’re a light eater or you’re not that hungry. There are many options of fillings, savoury or sweet, for your pancakes and even for poffertjes(the deliciously tiny and fluffy dutch pancakes). Keep in mind that the restaurant is not that big(although it’s able to sit even 12 people in a round table) and it might be very busy, so waiting around 20−40min is a possibility. My pet peeve — and main reason why I won’t give them five stars — is the fact they serve frozen poffertjes around the time the restaurant is closing. Their poffertjes are amazing when fresh, but I would not recommend ordering them after 20h. The chances of paying € 8 – 12 for a plate full of frozen, mushy poffertjes is sky high. But they’re pretty awesome when they’re fresh, specially during the summer when there are the special editions with strawberries and chocolate. So that’s it: avoid coming after 20h, be aware you might wait awhile, and stuff your face with crunchy delicious pancakes! :D

Great place to go and eat poffertjes in a central location. I ordered the Dutch poffertjes(vanilla ice cream, marinated cherries, cherry liquor, and powdered sugar) and a stroopwafel. The poffertjes and stroopwafel were very yummy. We barely had to wait for a table to 2 but I highly recommend getting a reservation as there was a long line when we were leaving. The location is great. Very close to the Anne Frank House, the Tulip Museum, and the Cheese«Museum». If you have the I Amsterdam card, you get a discount off international pancakes.

YUMMMM. We definitely had to try pancakes while in Amsterdam, so at the recommendation of our hotel concierge, we visited the Pancake Bakery and loved it. We split 3 pancakes family style, chosen off their specialties list. these had stars next to them indicating that they were popular: 1. tomatoes, onions, mushrooms — this is the only pancake that we did not love. it was rather on the plain side. could definitely use a spicy kick maybe with some peppers or something. 2. chicken, cheese, pineapple — definitely an interesting combination but FABULOUS. 3. dutch apple pancake with cinnamon ice cream, cinnamon liqueur, and powdered sugar — YUMYUMYUM. i don’t have anything else to say lol we were able to snag a table outside right by the canal as the sun was setting. what a lovely view and the perfect end to a busy day. this is very close to the anne frank museum so we were able to stop by after our museum visit. my only complaint is that in order to get tap water, you have to order individual drinks first. a bit of a money scam, but oh well. came out to be about $ 15 per person(for a pancake and drink each). not cheap but also not crazy expensive. definitely worth a visit :)

I was in Amsterdam for about a 17 hour layover, so I didn’t have a lot of meal time(since I arrived there around 5pm and had to leave by 10am). I knew that I had to choose 1 really good place, and I chose The Pancake Bakery! There are a lot of options, but my friend and I decided to split that Indonesian-style crêpe/pancake and poffertjes. I wanted classic Dutch food, but also couldn’t resist the description of the Indonesian pancake so I definitely got the best of everything. The poffertjes were super fluffy and it was basically heaven(disclaimer: this was my first ever poffertjes so I guess I don’t really have anything else to base it off of, but it was amazing). We sat outside by the canal because we wanted to watch our rental bikes(the rental lady warned us that bikes get stolen in Amsterdam a lot, but later we realized that no one probably wanted those bikes). Service was decent, and sitting outside by the canal in Amsterdam could not have been a better environment for pretty much my only meal here. Pro tip: if you want water on tap, you have to order another drink. Other option is just buy a bottle of water, but as it is in Europe, sometimes bottled water is more expensive than beer.

I loved these pancakes so much that we went twice. The second visit was not planned, but pancakes! Amsterdam was closed at a time when they should have been open so it was round 2 for the pancake bakery. The wait was around 15 min each time. On day 1, I had the Pancake with bacon, cheese and mushrooms: that was the best, most flavorful bacon I’ve had in my life. My friend had the Sweet American, which contained blueberries, honey, fresh mint, yoghurt ice cream and whipped cream. It was also delicious and we ended up splitting them for a sweet-savory combo which I highly recommend. For round 2, we both had the bacon and cheese pancake because it was just that good. I overheard that the couple next to us was given the wrong entrée with what sounded like little apology, but our service was fine. I’d even overlook service issues because the pancakes were that good.

Tip: Unilocal says this restaurant opens at noon but it was open at 9 am. Don’t miss the pancakes while you are in Amsterdam, trust me! We tried two at the Pancake Bakery one morning for breakfast — one savory and one sweet. The savory was The Norwegian, which was a large, thin pancake filled with smoked salmon and cream cheese. The sweet was a large plain pancake with powdered sugar. Both were great, although I recommend going toward sweet flavor so that you can try the amazing syrup served in big bowls on each table. The pancake syrup in Amsterdam is similar to molasses and is really thick and delicious.

Holy bejeeeeeesus. I’ve had incredible pancakes and breakfasts through out my life time, and I want to say this place is absolutely incredible! As a matter of fact, it was so good, that we went back the next day again. Here’s what we ordered:’ The Dutch pancake with stroopwaffel chucks and ice cream– 5 star. This is not for the light hearted. And yeah, the ice cream is what makes this truly delicious. The next day we had the panic withOUT the ice cream, since I didn’t want to eat something too sweet, and it was a mistake. ICE cream is what makes this dish due to the cream melting into the pancakes and adding that creamy touch. Cheese and bacon omelette– 4.5 stars. I was expecting bacon bits or bacon pieces, but no, these are BACONSTRIPS laying across your omelet. Very delicious, but it was a bit too«bacon-ey» for me and overpowering. I lOVE bacon strips, but it was overkill. Mushroom cheese and ham omelette — 5 stars. SO, i went back and decided to nick the bacon strips and try this dish on the next day and it was HEAVEN. Everything was PERFECT. Fluffy eggs, yummy cheese, just the right amount of saltiness from the ham bits. Banana and Chocolate Pancake– 4 stars. So yep. This was my second attempt of eliminating ice cream, since who wants to overload themselves with sugar and ice cream from breakfast. Well, I was wrong. Must stick with the pancake that has the ice cream in it, since that works better. I Highly recommend this place. Service can be inconsistent, but overall nice.
