Gasthuys

I thought this place was great, the service was good, the food was reasonably priced, they had free WIFI and most importantly the position was great. Sat right by a canal in a quiet (ish) little haven right in the middle of the hustle bustle of Amsterdam. I had the satay chicken and my wife had the caprese salad.

On a side street, Gasthuys is a small locals pub offering good grub, a nice beer selection, and engaging staff. The burger and fries was quite possibly one of the best I’ve had.

Sehr, sehr leckerer Cheeseburger! Kein Vergleich zum üblichen Fastfood.

‘t Gasthuys is a really nice café to have a drink and to eat for very little money. It’s located next to one of the University of Amsterdam’s biggest locations so there are usually a lot of students (who also get 10% discount on their meals). The pub-​style dishes all taste good and come in generous portions. I like their burgers and sate. Their are also really nice.
This place has a great terrace outside. It is not very big but its located next to the water and the spot is just very nice. During nice weather it is often very crowded.
Inside ‘t Gasthuys is very gezellig. The staff is also friendly. This is a great place to have a cheap and tasty dinner at a great spot in the centre of Amsterdam.

A very nice surprise!
We had the Burger and the Clubsandwich and both were devine. The burger came with a fresh and stable bun and was HUGE. The meat was medium grilled and tender. The sauce was delicicous, apparently some kind of whiskey sauce. Simply YUM!
The CLubsandwich was very large, too. The chicken was tender and nicely spiced. The bacon was crisp, lettuce and sauce made it perfect.
Both dishes came with large, chunky, crispy fries and mayonnaise that also tasted deliciously fresh.
We paid between 10 EUR (Sandwich) and 12 EUR (Burger) for the meals, which were so huge even my boyfriend couldn’t finish his Burger.
The waitress was very nice and attentive, and the interior of the bar is cosy and inviting. Definitely one of my new faourite spots in my favourite city!

This is a great little bar that has a very English pub feel about it. Its dark and cozy and is kind and comforting on a wet and rainy afternoon when you have a hangover to nurse.
The bar staff are young and friendly, and we were even entertained with a beautiful Justin Beiber dance!
They have an extensive beer menu as well as a full bar. The food menu looked good and well priced in this usually expensive city. However, we went straight for the apple tart with slagroom (the rather amusing Dutch word for whipped cream!) and it was absolutely delicious. I’m feeling now that I should have eaten rather more of this fabulous traditional dish during my stay here, it’s simply divine.
They also get a bonus point for having a friendly local puss cat that sleeps on the back bar.
Unfortunately, they don’t have WiFi here.

Students run… for students.
Very good prices… average good food. Good portions.
The terrace across the street is really nice, facing one of the small canals around the Amsterdam University.
Service was really nice.
I took a cheese burger served with a nice salad and fries. Very good bargain. They have all kind of beers.
The inside is nice and «gezellig» :)

Quite possibly the smallest bar I was in on my recent visit. As with many though it was cosy and well stocked.
