We completely mistook the location of our first reservation and had to book the doubletree the day of. The were more than accommodating and helped make our stay more authentic and enjoyable.

If there is a music festival going on, be prepared to change hotels. The service is nice, and they have bikes to rent if you need them. Trust me, you need them! It is so much fun to tour Amsterdam via bike. The ferry is a very short walk from the hotel, and it doesn’t take long to be on the city side for some touring. The food here is really good and reasonably priced. Once again, check out the website, and watch out for the concert schedule!

I debated the star rating here. 4’s something of a compromise. If you’re spending social time at the wharf, this gets 5 stars. From a tourist POV, there’s a significant location penalty, and this is at best 3 stars, possibly 2. The hotel itself is great. It’s new, it’s clean, it’s, sleek and stylish, it’s echo-friendly, and the staff is working hard to be positive. I’m a Hilton Hhonors guy, and of the 3 Hilton properties I stayed at in Europe, the property itself was the nicest, slightly nicer than Innsbruck and way better than the nasty-ass Hilton Munich City. But there’s the matter of location. NDSM is isolated. To get to Centraal Station and this to anywhere, you grab a ferry. The ferry runs every 15 minutes during peak time, 2x per hour otherwise, and takes 15 minutes. We found if we did our planning well, it was 30 minutes from hotel door to whatever our location is. Really, that’s not bad. However, if we didn’t plan well, it could double. Also, our preferred itinerary in Europe was, bust our asses in the AM, take a quick catnap in the afternoon, and then walk, eat dinner, walk some more. This was not possible at this hotel, as going back there was too much of a production. If you’re here to do Amsterdam, I suggest staying in the heart of the action, and would say rhis hotel is for you only if a) you’re hell bent on spending HHonors points or are planning marathon days in the city core. But for EYE film events and other stuff in North Amsterdam, this is the place. The hotel is on its way to being great.

This hotel is beautiful, high tech, and Eco friendly. The service was great and they have a sit down check in that I found added a nice touch. Maybe that’s common in Europe but I’ve never seen it in the U.S. The room was extremely modern with an entire wall of glass for a view. It had touch pad control lights stationed through out the room so you could turn any light on or off from walking in the door to laying down in bed as long as the key card was inserted in one of them, forcing the lights off when outbid the room and catering to the eco friendly environment. It wasn’t on the mainland, but only a 15 minute ferry ride away and the fairy comes every 30 min or 15 min depending on the day.
