Bar Americain

One of the best spots I visited while in Amsterdam. Best staff! So much fun. Thanks guys!

Not a bad place to stop by for some quality drinks you know and are at a nice price. They had pictures of American celebrities on the wall that brought me right back home! Nice relaxed atmosphere

Been here before and liked it but today left as the service was extremely poor. Despite asking several times did not get a menu card to order some food. Will stick to a drink here — for food will go elsewhere.

The jazz brunch is nice. Although my experience ended up being total disastrous ! Planning a party the night before then brunch the next day with friends that live in other parts of Europe. It turned out they had too much partying the night before and since we had pre booked for 24 guest — well the American hotel charged us for every single person — although only 14 came!
The most expensive brunch ever!!! — won’t recommend to pre book — they hit you hard!

Still a wonderful place to have a drink, find great people to talk with (the Dutch are wonderfully warm people — educated, urbane, articulate, and genuinely nice people). A number of locals who frequent the bar have adopted us and been wonderful hosts in when we’ve been here in town.
The service, food, and drink are excellent here.
Prices are moderate.

I like the glassed in bar area filled with cushy chairs and benches. It’s all in red. It’s got a great view for watching people walk to and fro on the busy leidseplein square. They have a full bar and they serve food. I had a beer and a burger. The burger had way too much stuff on it negating the probability of eating it by hand. This required knife and fork action. Yes, it was that big. It was essentially a bacon cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, salsa, yep salsa and a fried egg on it. The salsa added an interesting flavor to the mix. I’m not sure but it may have had two patties or one big thick one. Regardless, I finished the mountain of a burger along with my beer. If I go there again and order a burger I think I’ll take some stuff off of it to make it wieldable. The mountain burger came with fries and cost 16 euro. I’m not sure what could have earned them a fifth star, mebbe stellar service? Exit stage right.

This an excellent place to grab a drink. They even have Pilsner Urquell, the finest beer in the world, on tap. Very comfortable spot!

Amsterdam American Hotel is connected to Café Americain. If your some what confused, once you approach the hotel, then you will soon notice beside Amsterdam American Hotel a separate entrance into the bar/​restaurant. I completely adored this place. Café Americain is on the list for historical monuments. Recognized for it’s «Art Deco style period» from 1910 – 1940. The Art Deco Movement is one of my favorite periods as a historian. So you could only imagine how I was in awe over the architectural and decorative art style in this lovely café.
Café Americain is not your typical Amsterdam café. I would strongly suggest coming here for a drink, if you are looking for something more then the average. I met a few friends here for drinks and it was a wonderful experience. I felt like I was right back at home in my comfort zone. Café American has an elegant touch to it. The atmosphere is very relax and friendly. The service and drinks are excellent, so I can’t say one bad thing about this place. It’s definitely my cup of tea. Plus their chocolate is to die for. Lovers of fine chocolate this café will definitely lure you back for more.

I have pass this place so many times, just completely oblivious to what I was passing up on. I look forward to returning for lunch or dinner. Wireless internet is also available at the bar/​restaurant. Café American is just a few minutes away from a stroll in the Vondelepark, P.C. Hoofdstraat shopping area, museums, Paradiso and surrounded by plenty of restaurants to choose to your liking on Leidsplein.
