Emily’s Pancake House

I go and eat there with a few friends once a month, i ordered a hamburger and fries, the only 2 complants that i have is when my hamburger arrived it did not have ketchup or mustard just a hamburger on a dry bun, the waitress did not even ask if i had wanted any. I calked her back and she then brought out the condiments. The 2 nd complaint is when we were all done eating and we got our bills the tip was added into the bill. We always left a tip so the waitress got ripped of because we left more then what the bill said to pay, i give by what kind of service i receive. So if i get bad service why should i be forced to tip? Other then that they have good food, the place looks clean. And i will go back.

I love this place! For a pancake house, they have a pretty superb burger! I try to stop by here as often as I can whenever I’m in the area.

Stopped here after a visit to Illinois Beach State Park today. It was a clean, cheerful American style restaurant. The portions were generous and the food was tasty. We all brought home leftovers. I’m glad we came across this place. I’m sure we will stop here again after our next trip to the state park.

My friend and I stumbled upon Emily’s when we ventured out of the city to Illinois Beach State Park and needed to find somewhere to eat after hours and hours of hiking. I remembered driving past Emily’s, and we figured a pancake house sounded good at any time of the day.
We arrived mid-​afternoon on a weekday, so the restaurant was not busy. Lots of parking available, and we were able to park close up. After all the walking we’d already done, we were not interested in any more long hikes! We were seated quickly in a booth, given two menus and a list of the daily specials. Two waters and our silverware arrived within a minute.
The menu really is large, and features several choices of standard items. You want crepes? They have six different kinds. How about an omelet? They have maybe 10 of those, plus you can put together an omelet with your own chosen ingredients. Same thing with pancakes, waffles, skillets. .. there’s a plethora of breakfast options.
The friend went with breakfast; two eggs, two pancakes, two slices of bacon, and a sausage. I was more into lunch foods, so I ordered a BLT on whole wheat toast. I chose split pea soup for the appetizer, and instead of chips or potatoes, took a side of fruit. Some cole slaw came with it.
The soup arrived quickly, along with my coffee and lots of creamers. The waitress asked me something I didn’t get about croutons, so the soup came with croutons. That was fine with me. I thought the split pea soup was delicious. And it wasn’t a cup of soup; it was a bowl.
I wish I’d photographed the BLT, because the presentation was terrific. But I was so hungry, I dived right in. Boy, was it good. This was the standard BLT sandwich, by the way, and not the club. It was an awful lot of food for me! I ate the soup and the sandwich, and I took the cole slaw and fruit home with me. They worked out great for breakfast the next day.
Friend ate all of her pancakes, eggs, and meat. When I asked her afterwards how it was, she only said okay. What do you mean, I asked? You looked like you enjoyed it. She said, yes, the food was really good, but she decided breakfast was for breakfast time. So, no complaint with the food, but only with the timing? I know, it’s weird to me, too.
Our server was Nana, and she was efficient, friendly, and got everything right.
I told the friend that I’d be giving Emily’s a 5-​star review on Unilocal.And why not? Neither one of us had complaints about the service, the cleanliness, or the quality of the food. So thanks, Emily’s! The only complaint I could possibly have is, why do you have to be a solid hour’s drive from my home? I can’t return quickly or easily!

Arrived at 3:40pm. They close at 4pm. We were refused service upon entry unless we had a carry out. We wanted a couple BLTs.

I ordered the Avocado omelet with hash browns and pancakes– everything on the plates were very tasty but the pancakes really were the highlight; they were excellently cooked with a great texture and just a hint of malt flavor.
Both the hostess and my waitress were friendly and gave just the right amount of attention without being too obtrusive. I appreciated that!
The menu says to be patient when ordering an omelet as they take more time to cook because of their process. I’m not sure what they were talking about because my order was served in a flash– hardly any wait at all. The omelet was at the same time light in texture and juicy, how did they do that? Anyway, it was delicious.
A (big) disappointment was the coffee which tasted somewhat like they had used an old gym sock rather than a coffee filter and threw in some cigarette butts along with the grounds. Total yuck! Good coffee can make or break a meal and unfortunately in this case they seem to have cheaped out and it cost them a star in my review.
Easily a five star plus meal served with one star coffee. A true shame.

The food was fine, portions are great. The gripe I have is that every time I visit, they have free soup with my meal. That’s not a bad thing, right? The issue is that being a vegetarian, I can’t eat it. Every visit they have no veggie soup options, and it’s an up charge for a salad substitute. Also, they have reduced their menu to provide one vegetarian option for lunch, a veggie panini or wrap that I could easily make at home. So, with that said, look elsewhere if you have dietary restrictions.

Run of the mill family restaurant. Good prices, fast service and clean interior. Omelette was delicious with many different ingredients to add. Hash browns were tasty and the pancakes were average.

Great food, great service! Comes out quick, and always right! Staff very courteous, and responsive. Great for families or a quick meal on the go. Love this place!

Best breakfast restaurant in town. Come enjoy a good meal. Everyone that writes a bad review on Emilys Pancake House should keep their negative comments to themselves because I’m sure you still go there to eat or carry out.

They’re open for dinner now. We went there recently and I can see why there are hardly any cars in the parking lot. $ 13.00 for friken meatloaf come on. Ordered tea and walked out.

This is a great restaurant with excellent food and great service. Plan to bring home a doggy bag because they are huge portions. Also never order more than 2 eggs. What they give you is doubled from your order. Enjoy!

Great breakfasts all day long. Lunch and recently added dinner is very satisfying. Friendly servers and quick service. You will never leave Emily’s hungry. Ample on site parking.

LOVE the food. Avocado Omelette is where its at! Only down fall is the waitresses wearing t-​shirts and yoga pants? WTF? Very tacky

This is a go to place in this area for great food and great service and plenty of parking

Really good breakfast… The coffee was hot, and did not taste watered down. The ‘Works’ egg white omelet was good and the homemade salsa on the side was a good choice. Overall, I was happy with my meal and the server. I will be back.

We love coming here for breakfast. Even if it seems packed we get seated and served quickly.

The breakfast is super amazing and now they are open for dinner too so your able to get breakfast all day. They are a little pricey but if once you get your food you realize why and it’s because they give you enough food for 2 people. Totally worth it to go if you have the time and want an amazing breakfast.

Awesome breakfast joint. Plenty of food with healthy alternatives (egg whites and fruit with omelet) staff if friendly, accommodating and attentive. You get plenty of food and the pricing is reasonable,
I’ve never been dissatisfied with a dish, from skirt steak and eggs to any of their omelets and even the eggs Benedict!
My favorite is the avocado omelet (which I add mushrooms and tomatoes to, and egg whites only) with fruit instead of hash browns. You get a plate of fruit, and it’s always fresh!
