In terms of a taco joint this place is 1 billion times better than Los Naranjos in regards to being in that area. Their food was cooked just right, the tacos are good sizes for the price(they are bigger than the palm of your hand) unlike most taco places around Lake County. It was desolate, but the staff were friendly. We had no issues and will definitely be back again.

I went there for breakfast and was verbally attacked by the owner. All I asked was did you raise your prices and she went off on me. I do not appreciate her words that were spoken to me was very unprofessional and she did it in front of many people it was uncalled for .I kept my composure, I will never go back again

The best service in town, always the nicest servers. Food is excellent and very affordable. Can’t beat the breakfast deal either. Get the 3 item combo taco, flauta and a tamale. A+++++

There is a myriad of Mexican restaurants to choose from in lake county. That being said my wife and I stumbled on this one night after our move to beach park. The inside décor is bland but the food well makes up for it. Cheap prices good food and great portions. I have also been there for breakfast and been pleased would definitely recommend to checkout

They really should name this place, «great food for gringos who have never been farther south than Des Moines.» Had a somewhat decent Chile Relleno; nicely cooked, but stuffed with pepper cheese(!!!). Three shreds of lettuce and half-dollar sized slice of paper-thin tomato as a garnish. So-so rice and beans. Ordered a «cheese and pork» appetizer that was a total disaster. Some over-cooked pastor in the bottom of a baking dish topped with a sodden lump of melted cheese. It looked and tasted disgusting. I should have noticed that the only Brown(Mexican) faces in the place were waiting tables and working in the kitchen. In spite of being there at dinner time on a Thursday night, the place was two-thirds empty. For the locale and clientele, a little pricey. My entrée, appetizer, and one beer topped out at almost $ 30.00

I absolutely LOVE eating here! It’s a great family atmosphere! They catered my daughters baby shower and everyone raved about the food and service! I would recommend them for a family dinner or catering.

I walked into this place to get my to go order and felt like a sore thumb. To be fair, it was some of the other customers who were staring but it was an uncomfortable atmosphere. The chorizo didn’t taste like chorizo at all. It was completely flavorless. I won’t be going back and I certainly can’t recommend it

this place sucks! I’ve had better«mexican» food from Taco Bell! i lived in San Diego and even ate in Mexico a few times so i know my Mexican foods, this place was far from it. chips where stale, salsa was bland. décor of fake dutsy flowers made the place smell musty. my husband was served a skunk beer that had a born on date that was 9 months old. Would rather drive 2 blocks down to Taco Bell than to waste my money at this place.

Eaten there twice. I’m from California and have great Mexican restaurants to choose from. This one is pretty good, not great. Their food is good, hot and authentic styled. The salsa they serve is good, but very mild. I asked for something hotter and the waitress bright out hotter, much better salsa. Much better. Chips are either fresh and hit or not so much. I had lengua and el pastor tacos with beans and rice on the side. The lengua was good, el pastor was ok. Had sopas tonight. They were good. I’m used to having some refried beans on the sopes, there wasn’t any beans but they put sour cream on them. They were good, i took the sour cream off. For $ 10 or less, chips, good salsa and a glass of water, I was very happy and will be going back and trying something else. Service was good.

Best authentic mexican food for miles. Friendly and family owned. I have been coming here for almost ten years. They serve you free chips with the BEST salsa and queso. Meat is good quality and prices are great. I can’t go two weeks without eating here. Bad reviews here astonish me. To give some perspective, before El Lago opened, NOTHING that opened at this location stayed open longer than a year. El Lago is still going strong for a reason! Breakfast is amazing as well! Highly recommend.

El Lago has standard fare for small-town Mexican restaurants, but it’s not bad. I really enjoy the mole on the Enchiladas Mexicanas, and the Enchiladas Verdes are fine, also. Service is reasonably attentive, and the owner comes by to chat now and then. This is a popular place for breakfast, which includes eggs scrambled with chorizo along with more traditional breakfast fare.

I know that most people wouldn’t think to go to a Mexican restaurant for breakfast, but in my opinion, that’s what this restaurant does best. The buttermilk pancakes and waffles are excellent, as are the skillet meals. The Mexican fare here is always decent, but unremarkable, although my husband can’t seem to get enough of their al pastor tacos with cilantro and onion. The décor is seasonal and kitchy, so if you’re looking for a sophisticated atmosphere, you’ll be disappointed. Owner and staff are friendly and service is prompt. Its a nice, casual family-run restaurant, and we frequent it often.

Came here with my coworkers, of course. Decent food. Salsa was meh, so I stuck with the cheese. I got a tostata and enchilada. Both were good. It’s a great restaurant with good prices… but when I think«OMG I NEEDAMAZINGFOODNOW!» this place doesn’t rush to mind. Granted, not many places in Zion do… (Guess I’m just spoiled in the city, where I actually live.)

Nice atmosphere where you can kick back a margarita or two. Had to beg for more chips. Olé friends and new(Mi casa es su casa). The meal was ok at best… was reminded of Chef Ramsey @ Hell’s Kitchen.

DISGUSTING! My husband and I are trying w all our might to not throw up the greasy americanized mexiCANT food they serve here. Beans were horrible, they didnt even put beans on my torta which is wrong, the horchata i ordered was wretched – unless you want diharrea and or vomiting DONOTEATATELLAGO!

Just stopped for lunch this weekend with my son. They have great food at VERY reasonable prices!!! Love the chips and queso… I’m a salsa fan and their salsa has serious kick. Have previously had their desserts which are also AWESOME!

The owners are awesome. Friendliest people! The food is good. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner. Good coffee too! There has been many restaurants to move in and out of this location, and this is the only one that has stayed there for this long. That says a lot, in my book.

Easy to get to, clean, good prices, and a very friendly staff, the food was very average overall. When you sit down they bring chips right away with a cheese sauce and some red salsa. The salsa is pretty good, not real spicy but you can taste the garlic and cilantro. The cheese sauce is pretty bland and could use some spices or heat to make it better. We ordered a carnitas burrito and chicken enchiladas with a mole sauce. The burrito came to the table with a couple slices of white cheese melted over the top. Unusual to see that and not a good sign usually. The filling for the burrito was pretty good but had a ton of sauce on the inside. My wife said it was alright but nothing great. The enchiladas were better than the burrito. Overall they had more flavor and the filling was better. The mole sauce had a very strong cocoa/chocolate flavor, was very thick, but worked with the chicken filling. Overall, it was a good dish but the mole was a little overpowering.

One of my measures of an Mexican restaurant is what kind of meat they have, if they serve beef tongue it is more authentic and I will give it more of a chance. Well El Lago has beef tongue and a nice selection. The food is well done, tasty, and nice proportions. I also like that they give you chips for take-out, which most places dont. However the salsa’s consistency was a little odd, jelly like, but still tasted good if alittle bland. They are open for breakfast which is nice.
