Apparently they only give utensils with take out upon request. The crunchy noodles are puffed rather than flat so not as keen on that texture, didn’t finish the egg drop soup because of this. The egg rolls come in pairs, wrapper was too thick and fried too long. I tried the lo mein noodles which were kind of bland other than super salty. I may try this venue again, order some fried rice or a lunch special simply because it is on the way home, but not sure.

My fiancé and I stopped by today to try the 3.99 lunch they are always advertising. There was no such lunch special posted in their menu. We decided to do one of our favorites sesame chicken, which came with an egg roll and fried rice. The sesame chicken was too sugary and not at all savory. We actually had to stop eating it half way through because of how maple sugary the consistency of the sauce was. The rice was too salty and the egg roll dry and lackluster in flavor. I understand that this is a cheap meal, but for that price I would go to China King or Golden Wall further down Wastenaw in Ypsilanti.

I really like the food here and the prices are great. It’s just down the road from me, so I walk to it often for take out as a great dinner for me and my wife. Everything is wonderful, except the crab rangoons are not exactly the way we expected them. So now we always get the dumplings for the appetizer and those are great!

Pea Pod Inn is a small Chinese carry out & dine in restaurant located in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Its been there on Ecorse for over 25 years. The original owner-operator was a skilled Chinese restaurant operator. He still operated it well into his years. He knew exactly what was called for to operate in the Ecorse Road area. He kept prices incredibly low and still managed to offer simple decent fare. He knew what and how to reduce in order to offer an under $ 3 lunch buffet. He passed the business to younger family years ago and they have a young couple running things much of the time. They do not have the founder’s business savy but they have managed to keep the place going in very hard times with a $ 4 to $ 4.50 lunch menu, no small feat! They cut corners but the food is still fresh vegetables and meat. More dark chicken is used than many Americans are used to and cheaper cubed pork & chicken is used for fried rice, which is the dark fried with lots of soy sauce kind. The robust inside lunch business is gone but Pea Pod does have a brisk take out business. The working poor people Chinese-American food is not for everyone but it certainly beats the local high fat, carbohydrate, sodium loaded junk food of surrounding fast food restaurants and the out of the box and big can food«prepared» by grill«cooks» fare of the so-called family diners and restaurants of Ecorse Road and nearby Ypsilanti township part of Michigan Avenue. Pea Pod has parking in front and carry out customers can use the large lot at the end of the building. New Comers Note: Ecorse Road, after dark, is a high crime area of Ypsilanti Township.
