Ordered CASHEW chicken, and seriously got baseball peanut chicken. So disgusting I will never be back. Come on peanuts!!! If you say CASHEW chicken there better be CASHEWSNOTPEANUTS!!! ugh

Pretty tasty Americanized Chinese food. I’m a fan of that style, so this place is a regular take-out option for us. I’m not crazy about their General’s chicken but the Lo Mein and the dumplings are a must. Portions are generous, prices are cheap, and they’re fast to have orders ready in about 10 minutes. Here’s a tip: Ask for beef with mushrooms. It’s not on the menu but they’ve made it for me before and it’s incredibly savory and delicious.

This is a local place that I have visited a few times. I would say that they do have good food in comparison to American Chinese food. The one thing I learned is to check your food order. I wondered why my bill was higher than a typical combo and i had a combo and extra pint of house special fried rice. I had ordered special fried rice and 2 patties but it was recommended to get the combo. I ended up with both. Mistakes are made but this is the second time this happened. Hmmmmm. Good good but I will definitely double check next time. I won’t assume that the price is right.

Agree with Emily’s post. Just had General tso chicken, terrific!(Asked for med spicy). Broccoli was crisp and fresh– surprising, given the prices. Egg roll uninteresting, counter duck sauce tasteless-should’ve read her review so I’d know to ask for the plum sauce. Steamed dumplings excellent-including the sauce. I always order these first time since they’re a good gauge to quality; so many restaurants get these wrong. Given the other reviews, I’d say stay away from fried dishes here, stick to authentic dishes. I’ll be back; since Great Lakes Seafood deteriorated, it’s been hard to find a Chinese restaurant I like in the area of Meijer’s where I live. I wish this place had the ambience for eat-in; it’s definitely take-out unless you’re in a hurry and too hungry to get home. Bravo, Great Wall!!! Excellent food for the price!

This place is located near my house which is why I have been going here for the last fifteen years. The hunan chicken and shrimp are excellent. They are very generous with their shrimp, it’s so delicious. The Fried Rice is below average, the hot and sour soup isn’t the greatest, the egg drop is pretty bad, the tofu vegetable is bland. Their egg rolls aren’t good(I don’t like egg rolls made with cabbage inside, I prefer bean sprouts), their spring rolls however are good. It’s important to ask for plum sauce, not the nasty duck sauce at the self service station. I haven’t tried anything else from here, I guess I just figured we got lucky with the one good thing and would probably be disappointed with the rest.

Went from occasional diner, to never again. I watched the boy serving my food drop an egg roll on the floor, put it in the fryer for five seconds, re-package it, and place it in my order. When I asked for a manager, he wouldn’t tell me when and how to contact them. It’s a shame.

Great Wall isn’t somewhere you go looking for decent food. It’s one of those places you stop by because your either in a rush, feel like hating yourself, or don’t feel like driving all the way to Ypsilanti or Belleville. The portions are huge for the price. A dinner is around $ 7 and you get your choice of greasy or deep fried sauce covered meat, greasy fried rice or lo mein, and an egg roll. Seriously, everything you can get here is like an oil slick. Even the vegetable medley. The meat also has far too many«gristle» bits that make you question the quality and source of it. The back door to the kitchen is usually propped open, dirty rags hang everywhere, cardboard boxes of food are stacked in the back, no one ever seems to wear gloves or wash their hands or wear hair nets, and they seem to use the same pans for everything with no washing in between, which is all shudder inducing to anyone who knows proper food handling. Only redeeming quality is their egg-rolls. They are the best I’ve found in the area. Especially the shrimp ones. Also, don’t order the egg drop soup, unless you like eating soup that has the consistency of firm jello.

When the sign/menu says New York Style Chinese food, they’re basically saying they’re a fully Americanized chinese food take out place. Although I am well versed in both authentic and American chinese food, i like to indulge sometimes in the latter when the authentic isn’t available. Great Wall just happened to be within minutes of the bank where I was conducting some business so I went ahead and got some carry out. Not surprisingly, the general’s tso chicken lunch combo was chicken, a cloyingly sweet sauce and some generic fried rice. For some strange reason, the egg roll was the star of the show which I was shocked by. The baby shrimp and cabbage were enclosed by a golden-brown and delicious egg roll wrapper that was neither too big or doughy. The chicken was definitely meh– definitely boneless dark meat with the random white meat chunch thrown in and not vice versa. The rice did have some bits of char-siu(which is authentic bbq pork) but not enough to make a difference in the bland rice. While they were ultra-fast and decidedly low-price, I probably would not reach out for this place again… perhaps in a pinch, it would do if I lived or worked very close by, but usually, I can find better lunch options(even the next door Aubree’s Pizza would be a better, albeit slightly more expensive experience). I did notice DKY Sushi and Thai on my way back, so maybe there is one more option for Asian cuisine that may be worth a shot.

The Great Wall, is that kind of Chinese place where you make a scrunched face, give it some thought and then bite the bullet and go for it. It comes off as the type of place that could be REALLYBAD, but it really surprises you once you try the food out. It isn’t a sit down place(at least not someplace nice to sit down). Most people I’ve seen order here either phone it in, or drop by for a quick pickup on their way home down Whittaker Rd. I’ve had a varying selection here, and have enjoyed the food. First, and probably only, time I’ve ordered from here. I got a quart of the hot and spicy chicken. It was almost completely onions. Hardly any chicken or even other vegetables. Just a quart of onions. This was very disappointing.

We’ve been here about 15 times. I think their dumplings are mediocre and their egg rolls and soups are really good. Their prices are also good for what you get. A couple of months ago we ordered from here and I actually had cartilage and bone in a piece of my orange chicken. I gave them another chance a month ago and got Shrimp in Lobster Sauce. It wasn’t even how it was pictured. It was not a lot of shrimp with imitation crab meat(gross) in lobster sauce. Otherwise, the shrimp itself in the dish was actually really good and if they took out the fake crab meat and had more shrimp, it would be a really delicious dish. Tonight, I went here for dinner as take out and as I was eating my rice I noticed that my rice had an orange color to it like it was a sauce even though I was eating nothing orange. I move the rice around with my fork and there’s RAWPORK in my rice! Completely inexcusable and disgusting that the surrounding rice was even discolored from it. I look around in my rice more and there’s more pieces of raw pork. NEVER eating here again.

Wally S. turned me on to this great little carry out. I’m so glad I checked it out. The mark of a good chinese place for me is #1 the caliber of their hot and sour soup. And the soup here is very good indeed. Fresh sliced mushrooms, crispy bean sprouts in a light spicey broth that is not loaded with salt. That’s how I like it. Throw in some crispy noodles and it’s pure bliss. My choice of the Triple Delight in Garlic Sauce was a good one. Consisting of jumbo shrimp, sliced beef and chicken breast served with broccoli, water chestnuts, and carrots in garlic sauce. Accompanied by pork fried rice, that contained actual chunks of pork. It was a ton of food, three or more meals worth. I agree with Sarah R. as to the strangeness of the«New York Style Chinese Food» statement. Granted I’ve never been to New York, so I have no clue what the reference is about. But I will say this, on this day the counter person was cold, even emotionless. So maybe it’s an attitude style versus a food style. Anyhoo the food is what will bring me back!

I eat here almost every day. The food is really good and the price is even better. We often get takeout from Great Wall and are always pleased with both the quantity and the quality of the food. Our favorite dish here is the General Tso’s Chicken. I’ve had this at many restaurants, and I can say none even come close. It’s just the right mix of sweet and tangy with just enough heat to make it interesting. A quart actually will feed 2 of us for 2 meals due to the large portion sizes. Other favorites include the Pork Fried Rice, Sweet and Sour Chicken, and Happy Family which is their combo of Chicken, Beef, and Shrimp. As we get more adventurous we are turning up the heat in our food and trying other things so I’ll probably be coming back and writing another review in the future.

Husband went in and placed a carry out order. Orange ‘flavored’ beef, 4 egg rolls, and chicken and broccoli. He came home quickly, said the service was ok, and got food quickly. All the food was hot, and it was reasonably priced(under $ 24 for all of it) The chicken and broccoli seemed to be alot more broccoli than chicken, and for some reason the chicken and broccoli was in a box like the rice and the orange beef was in a covered tray(don’t know why?) The were decent, nothing I’d really say was outstanding, but the eggrolls were gross. Husband tried one, said it tasted like paint. I chalked it up as them using cheap sweet and sour sauce. I used a different sauce on mine, and they were bad too. If we go back, that won’t be ordered again. First chinese restaurant I found in the area(we just moved to the area from Novi, and used to the awesomeness of China Café) Hoping to find something better nearby. It’s OK, but nothing I’d be ‘in the mood for.’

Great Wall advertises itself as «New York Style Chinese Food,» which I find kind of strange, since most Chinese restaurants classify themselves by the Chinese province(Hunan, Szehchuan, Cantonese, etc.) that influences their cooking. Anyway, this is a decent place for carryout. It’s possible to dine in, but I wouldn’t recommend it. The seating area is very plain and has a cafeteria-style feel to it. It’s generally rather noisy in there from the sounds of the kitchen as well. I’m not crazy about their crab rangoon. At six pieces for just under $ 3 they’re inexpensive compared to other local Chinese places. At Great Lake, for instance, you get much smaller crab rangoon for about twice the price. So the problem isn’t price or portion size at Great Wall– it’s quality. The filling is fine, but the wrappers they use are kind of tough and chewy. I prefer them to be on the lighter, crispier side. The crab rangoon are not awful, but they’re not the best I’ve ever had. I’ve gotten takeout fairly often with friends, and they recommend the Chicken Szechuan style. Portions are generous. I often get the quart size serving and split it with a companion, and there’s almost always more leftover for the next day. I almost always get the Bean Curd Szechuan style, because it’s quite good, some of the best bean curd I’ve had in southeast Michigan. The dish is full of large, savory triangles of fried bean curd, and the sauce, while probably loaded with sodium and MSG, is tasty. Further, the vegetables are really nice in this dish. The carrots and broccoli are only lightly fried and are crisp and bright in color. It also usually comes with mushrooms, bell pepper, water chestnuts, baby corn, and bamboo shoots.
