I grew up in the Philippines where our Christmas trees were always fake and had always dreamed about picking out a REAL one. Fast forward to 2013 and there’s a beautiful fresh Christmas tree in our living room that also serves as a wonderful air freshener.
There are tons of places around that sell trees during this time of the year, but my husband and I wanted to visit an actual farm where the trees haven’t been cut yet. After seeing photos of Richfield Pines on their website and watching their promotional video I was sold! It wasn’t too far of a drive anyway. We went there on a Saturday and boy was it a treat! You’re immediately greeted by smiling men on utility vehicles who give you a brief orientation on what to do. (Not like it’s that complicated!) We saw several families picking out their trees, some even with their babies. The ten-​acre property is located on a hilly slope and you can freely roam to search for your tree. No one bothers you at all. It’s almost like a fun little hike. It’s best to go when the sun is out because the view is beautiful. If you go when it’s raining chances are you’ll get all muddy and dirty (but that could be fun too!). My husband and I took our time walking around and taking silly photos. We were looking for a small tree that could easily fit in the back of his SUV. It was hard because there were so many to choose from and most of the perfect-​looking ones were already taken. When we finally found ‘our’ tree, I walked all the way down to call one of the guys while my husband stayed behind. I hopped in the four wheeler and enjoyed the short ride up the hill. The man suggested that my husband cut the tree and so he did using a small saw. I captured it on video just for shits and giggles. Then the three of us road back down. The man also helped us load the tree in our car. We paid only $ 40 bucks for 5′ tree. It’s $ 8 per foot. (I wasn’t sure though if we were supposed to tip the guy…)
Definitely an afternoon and a ‘first’ tree to remember! We might do it again next year.

We came like 25 min away from closing and they were still SUPER helpful and delighted we were there. The trees smell amazing and there are so many good ones to choose from! I love supporting a local family business. Bring your walking shoes and the kids will have so much fun! Love it. And not to mention only $ 8 a foot. No other hidden fee etc. Way better than buying some dried up tree from a Parking lot that will cost you so much more!

I took my wife and kids here to experience a real Christmas tree hunt like the Bernstein Bears. We had an awesome time, going around looking for trees, some as tall as 15′. My daughter made the final decision and my son helped cut the tree down. Dustin guided us threw the entire time and helped my son cut down the tree. He was great and so was the entire experience. Very family like atmosphere and professional treatment.

If you are looking for a great tree at a reasonable price, look no further. The wide selection and helpful staff make this one of the best spots in OC. The kids will have a great time enjoying nature and hunting for the perfect tree.

We have gotten our tree here every year since I was a little kid (I’m in my mid 30s now). The service and selection have always been great. I can’t wait to bring my own kids here someday.

Bought my tree here last year and enjoyed the experience. Walked around for 20 – 30 minutes looking for the right height and right shape.
Look up Monterey Pines before you go so you understand what kind of tree they grow here. It’s not the traditional douglas or noble fern, but looks great in your home.
We loved our tree, stayed smelling fresh, and felt more attached since we had chosen it from the ground!

Best choose and cut Christmas tree farm in O.C. The crew there is very helpful, and it’s an adventure your family will never forget.

They have the best selection, any size and the freshest trees around. I’ve never been disappointed.

Family owned and operated, which makes for a nice touch. They only have Monterrey Pines. 10 Acres is alot of space, so bring your walking shoes. Some trees look more wild than others.
