Prices are a bit high for the quality of the food — there are better options if you know the area and don’t mind driving a bit — but it’s nice to see a place like this still in the neighborhood. Perhaps dining in would be better than take out.

Stay away from the new lunch menu. I went to lunch with my husband and daughters there yesterday. Two of us ordered sandwiches from the new lunch menu.(paninis: chicken cutlet & mozzarella and prosciutto & mozzarella). Really bad. Neither of us ate our sandwiches(which never happens). The paninis were not pressed, were not hot, and were dry– there seemed to be no type of dressing or condiments on them. The spedino was, as always, great, and the other two meals were just fine. We generally like Giulio’s, maybe it was the cook’s day off. We went on a Wednesday, for lunch. I still gave it an A-Ok,(3 stars) because usually the food is good there. IMPORTANT: They accept credit cards, but there is a note when they bring you your check, to please leave the tip in cash.

Great little neighborhood Italian. Drove up from Bridgeport, CT for lunch with my father. I had manicotti, and my father had eggplant rollatini. It was deliciousThe owner Giulio went out of his way to be sociable with us. Class act. Will definitely be back.

Ate there about 2 weeks ago. The service was excellent. The food was good — not outstanding, but good. I would go back.

I had not been to Giulio’s in years and decided to go for lunch with my daughter. So looking forward to a long classic italian meal. So sad and disappointing ! The bread was like chewing gum, the fried calamari was undercooked and like rubber and finally Chicken Marsala with a sauce that tasted like brown canned gravy and Penne ala Vodka that had no taste at all. The entrees were so inedible that I had to tell the waiter. When he returned his response was the owner said this is what the food is, not can I get you something else or I am sorry. He said to talk to the owner and I tried but he ran out of the restaurant. Unbelievable ! So after one bite each we left our uneaten entrees, paid the full check and left. I can easily see why the restaurant was empty because of an owner who is so oblivious to the quality and ingredients of his food. Disgraziata !!!

The service here at Giulio’s is great. Everyone is super friendly and inviting. There is a warm atmosphere and they have a nice selection from the bar which is in a separate area from where you eat. The quality of the food? Three stars if you ask me… some things are better to eat than others. The mussels aren’t that great so avoid ordering them…

Whenever I’m in Yonkers I have to visit Giulio’s for one of their classic Italian dishes. The restaurant has a warm neighborhood atmosphere consisting of a bar area at the main entrance with the main dining area separated from the bar. Both the bar and dining room staff are friendly and provide excellent service. All dishes are prepared with high quality ingredients. Portions are very generous. Nice touch number one: after they bring you the menus they place a plate of roasted red and green peppers on the table with warm Italian bread. Some of my favorite appetizers are the Clams Oreganato, Spedino and the Mussels Marinara. Guilio’s Zuppa de Pesce is probably the best I’ve ever had with generous portions of clams, mussels, calamari, scallops and three extra large shrimp. The sauce has excellent flavor and the seafood was perfectly cooked. Some other excellent dishes are the Veal Francese, Chicken Scarpariello and Shrimp Fra Diavolo. Make sure you order the potatoe croquettes as a side when available. They are phenomenal! Nice touch number two: they place a bottle of anisette on the table when you order an espresso. I never really get to the deserts. Definitely worth a visit!

The place was nice our waitress was very friendly. The rest not so good. It took a while to get our first drink. They bought us bread no butter or oil to dip in. Then 2 of us in our party ordered veal and they ran out !!! It was only 7 pm. The food is sub par for the price. We will never dine here again.

Giulio’s is a cross between Umbertos of Little Italy fame & Cheers where everybody knows your name and then serves you great food as well. From pizza to any Italian dish you can imagine, Giulio is there himself(at your table) to make your dinning experience special. I’m a big fan!

Ate here several times and keep trying to come back, hoping the quality will change, not so! Four of us ordered different meals and all were just good not great. I had Mist de Mare, which is seafood including clams, mussels and shrimp over linguini in a spicy sauce. My pasta was little over cooked and the dish was bland, not spicy and too watery. Service was good and brought my own wines for small service charge. Overall, will not come back and do not recommend. Signed, disappointed.

Huge portions, great spinido. Nice service. Located directly in the ghetto of yonkers but they have their own parking lot so it’s not much of a problem. Overall it’s good, not great.

«ANDTHENEPPERHANFLOWSHOMETOTHESEA» While Sholokhov stood accused of plagiarism, my humble offering is only a bit derivative; compensating, perhaps, for a dearth of creativity. Considering that the muse for long has left Yonkers, one still tries to wax poetic & rise above the standard ‘prole’ pasta-praising, prattle prose, pretending to review. Enough said. Although not from Yonkers, or even worse, the Bronx; I’m neither stranger to Giulio’s, nor the table at large, that truth be told, is perhaps my girth right. And here in the benighted City of Yonkers, not unlike Pastroudis in Alexandria, where Durrell lingered over cappuccino; Giulio’s harks back to the long lost days of Italian feasts, Yonkers’ finest & Yonker’s firemen; like shades of Alexander’s legions marching through the desert to his eponymous city. Yonker’s river, like the Canopic Nile exiting the Delta, that witnessed the Macedonian youth, & centuries later Napoleon landing off Abu Kir, awakening the sleeping beauty, Mamluk Egypt; the Nepperhan saw the doomed Englishman, sailing for the Dutch in 1609, who gave his name to New York’s river; & the American inventor’s ship steam past 200 years later. And like present day Alexandria, which no longer is a reflection of Mediterranean Europe on the shores of Africa; Yonkers, is now a settlement from Africa, the subcontinent, Latin America & Caribbean, all here on the left bank of the Hudson. But, ‘never to despair,’ as late into the Parkhill night, long after one leaves Giulio’s for the provinces, well-fed & imbued with Bacchus, & possibly proving Thomas Wolfe wrong; from beneath this moldering morass, as the Nepperhan flumes below, arises the dream city.

The menu is extensive and everything we ordered was great. The portion sizes for the pasta are huge and are definitely enough for two. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes good Italian food.

I grew up in Yonkers but live in another state now — whenever I go back to see family we go to Giulio’s and ask for the semi-private room(you will need a reservation; the main dining room is fine and probably where you’ll eat). If there’s no parking in the adjacent lot there is plenty of parking across the street in the«new»(several year old) lot. If you’re not local, use your GPS and be ready for narrow streets with lots of double-parked cars — this is an older section of Yonkers(drive along Park Hill Avenue from Rumsey Road to see the huge old houses) and the neighborhood will look rough. But you don’t go to Giulio’s for the views(there are none) or the ambiance of the dining room(it’s nothing fancy) — you go for the large portions of good food like mama made it. My girls have been eating the mussels marinara there since they were toddlers. My husband has the giant pork chops. I like to check out the specials, which change often(printed on a single sheet and including the price). You can eat on the cheap if you want by ordering a large sub(hero/wedge/hoagie; try the eggplant parmesan or the meatball). You’ll get complementary bread and some good peppers in oil and garlic(or something similar). Appetizers include fried calamari and mussels marinara. Pastas are reasonably priced. Most entrees come with a choice of pasta, potato or vegetable on the side. Don’t miss the vegetable sides, though, especially if you’re a fan of broccoli rabe(rape). Still want that pasta? Ask for a half-order. Not sure if you’ll like something? Ask your server, and Giulio himself might come out to talk to you about it. Want something that’s not on the menu, or want something prepared differently? Ask. Wine is reasonably priced(you can find something in any price range) and there’s a full bar(and a nice bar if you want to sit at it). Of course there’s good brewed espresso. Refrigerated desserts are displayed in a case near the kitchen(there may be other desserts — your server will tell you). The cheesecake is homemade and excellent(both the New York style cheesecake and the ricotta cheesecake… the slightly-drier-than-New York-style-cheesecake — they don’t always have both, though). Get a piece to share… but you probably won’t have room, because there is a lot of food. You won’t leave hungry and you will leave happy.

Giulio’s is an old school Italian place in an easy-to-miss spot on Park Hill Avenue in Yonkers. Think simple décor, great service, classic Italian entrees and huge portions. The wine selection is very limited, but the server said that they were in the middle of revamping the menu, so I’ll write off that issue. My table started with the spedino appetizer, which I had never heard of, but it’s a heart stopper. It’s basically a block of fried mozzarella topped with capers, anchovies, spices, and a lemon sauce. As a cheese-lover, this was just awesome, but I’d caution one from eating more than just a small piece since it’s so filling. For an entrée, I had the chicken francese. Now, relative to the francese I’ve had at other places in Yonkers(Giovanni’s, Silvio’s, Carlo’s), this has been the best, but it still doesn’t have the taste that I really tend to enjoy: a francese that has a strong lemon flavor with capers. I was a little disappointed in the spaghetti that came with it. I have an Italian grandmother, so I’ve come to appreciate fresh homemade pastas, and this tasted like it was right out of the box. I was so full by dessert that I couldn’t order a full piece of anything, but I did taste a piece of chocolate fruit cake. The rum-soaked fruit reminded me of the old Italian bakery I used to buy from in Springfield, MA, so I was instantly a fan. Overall, I would recommend Giulio’s for a family dinner, but pass on the pasta.
