shell island is a beautiful resort at the end of wrightsville beach and right on the ocean. Island’s End is lovely and you can see the ocean thru a clear glass wall. or you can sit outside and eat in fair weather. the menu is limited. small breakfast buffet on weekends only. lunch is sandwiches, soups, and salads. they are vegetarian friendly. it is pretty deserted in winter with like 10% occupancy understandably. we had a nice meal. the crab cake was huge but half stuffing and half crab meat. classic southern friendly service. prices are what you would expect in a hotel restaurant. they do have fresh seafood meals as well, even for lunch

This is the restaurant at Shell Island Resort. They also have an outdoor bar. Really liked the outdoor bar! They have outdoor seating as well for dinner, but a storm made us move inside. Really really liked the staff in the restaurant/bar! Food had its’ pluses and minuses. Bread was quite good. We were brought three different types of rolls with butter. Husband & I shared two entrees: The Calabash Seafood Platter($ 23) and a daily Surf & Turf Special($ 24). They do have less expensive options but we were hungry and ready for a quality dinner. The steak was well cooked although lacking in seasoning. It was served with mashed potatoes and grilled cauliflower. Nothing exciting, but well executed. Just needed to be kicked up a notch! Same with the shrimp. Meanwhile another guest seemed to like his BBQ Wahoo with squash. Biggest disappointment was the pricey seafood platter which was mostly calamari tentacles. Not what makes Husband happy! He didn’t care for the fish either(I am skeptical as to whether it was really flounder). It was small and thin and I did okay with it, but it was nothing thrilling. The one oyster I got(I think there were two) had a muddy flavor. And the shrimp was just okay. I hated the slaw, although Husband ate some. Heavy sweet mayo. Cocktail sauce was bland and when I asked for tartar it tasted like it came out of a jar. Service was quite good despite them being packed! Later we got some drinks from the bar to take to our room and found them friendly and helpful as well.
