Taste of Maine Restaurant

Ate there on Thursday June 16 with some friends for lunch. I hadn’t been there in years because the food was never good but I didn’t get to choose the restaurant and went along to eat with some fun people. I arrived late so the others had ordered and I quickly said I’d take a special, a lobster/​crab roll sandwich; I didn’t ask the price, I should have. I asked for iced tea, sweetened (after many years of living down south, that means black tea with sugar in it). I got some godawful fruity, overly sweet stuff; the gal next to me had regular iced tea and it didn’t look like that. On my bill I got charged for «soda». Yuck. The lobster/​crab roll was not very tasty, the lobster was so tough I couldn’t cut it with a knife. The fries tasted like they’d been cooked in old grease and were very sparse in number. I didn’t see anything on my friends’ plates that looked very interesting; my neighbor with the iced tea said it was very weak & it looked it. When I got my bill, I’d been charged $ 20.90 for the meal plus $ 2.50, I think, for the «soda». For $ 4 more I could have gone down the highway a few miles to Reds Eats and gotten a fantastic lobster roll with about 10 times more lobster & great fries. There are many places in Maine to get a good lobster roll, some a lot cheaper, but this is not the place. I am never, ever going back.

All our years of summers in Maine and had to give this a try. Average. Just a little pricey to me, however the taste was good. Great for bus loads I suppose. Too touristy for our taste but will do on a pinch when making the run up or down US 1 late in the day, and Mc Donald’s isn’t your style. Server was slow but good… however we probably won’t be back.

This is my first time here. I was on my way north on 1 and had not eaten all day so I ducked into this place for some lobster. I ordered the «lazy man’s lobster». This was supposed to be two 1.25lb lobsters for $ 35. Everything was good from the service to the food. My only beef with the restaurant was that it seemed to me that I didn’t get the full two lobsters. I got 4 claws. Good job. But, the sum of the rest of the meat didn’t seem to add up. Is there such thing as tailless lobsters perhaps :)? Anyway, this is my suspicion… perhaps I’m mistaken.

I just want to say each time I have gone there I just was not happy not only with the food but the staff… waited one time for 30 min just to get a bowl of chowder… nod one other thing what is up with the sign it self, the man looks like a Chinese man the a weathered seaman… he should look like the fishermen that sits up by the front door… no I can say I will not be trying taste of Maine again

I must say this place does scream tourist trap to people cruising on by Route 1 looking for some quality Maine seafood. Everything from the metal lobster sculpture to the flashing LED sign just says «hey we have the best seafood in Maine.» However, from my brief stay in the area I hardly think that was true.
I ordered a seafood casserole with shrimp lobster and scallops that was topped with ritz crackers. It ran about $ 25. This friggin dish was the heaviest thing i have EVER eaten in my life. At first its very good. Well the scallop and lobster part at least. The tiny probably frozen shrimp they throw in there taste like donkeys ass (at least thats what I pictured).

Bite 1 — yumm!
Bite 2 — oo fresh lobster but this cream sace is a little overwhelming
Bite 3 (shrimp) — You have got to be kidding me with these little turd nugget sized shrimp.

Bite 15 — i am in physical pain from this heavy cream sauce and might possibly die
And i just want to thow this out there that this dish was a recommendation by my young skinny waitress. She said it is one of her favorite dishes. I dont know how long this girl has been working there but she wont be skinny for too much longer if she keeps housing this all that cream and crackers.
I think i made a mistake with my choice, but the lobster part was good. The place was recommended to me by a local. And my waitress was very nice. She took some time to chat with me after seeing i was there alone. Still hard to give this place higher than a 3 banger.

I love the Taste of Maine! Went there a few days ago and had the best service and talk about great food and view! I went there with my children and the staff made it very easy to dine with a family for sure! Not sure when these other reviews were written but there wrong! Had the triple lobster special and even though it was $ 39.99 it came with 3 pound in a quarters caesar salad and corn on the cob which for us seemed right since we went to COOKS lobster house and thats what they wanted for 1!!! These people have obv wrong information cause Cooks Lobster House is the rip off! I will be back and thanks again TASTE OF MAINE WE LOVE YOU!!!

Charming? Off the beaten path? Are we talking about the same place? This is a huge (by Maine standards) restaurant right on Route 1. It has a giant fake lobster out front, and one of those statues of an ancient mariner in a yellow raincoat.
It is a world-​class tourist trap. They give that away by the gift shop in the lobby. The above-​cited triple lobster special was quoted at $ 40 in a Summer where lobster prices are way down.
The food is OK. The service is passable. But you can do a lot better.

For starters, the place is seasonal so if you’re not up there in the summer, forget it. I’ve tried to eat here twice and I have heard rave reviews about the food from friends. My experience has been somewhat less than pleasant.
Since the place is seasonal, they tend to employ local High School kids on the staff. Both times I went there the kids/​staff completely ignored me for over 30 min while chatting with their friends. I won’t be trying a third time. Both times I gave up and went to Cooks instead.
I’d like to say it’s good, I just can’t ever seem to get served there.

This is one of the most charming seafood restaurants in the state of maine. They feature the Triple Lobster Dinner, which, if i was going to die, would be my definate last meal. They are situated on a little inlet and they provide binoculars for birdwatching. A fun and tasty place, a little off the beaten path.
