Horrible food. Under cooked chicken, flavorless hot dishes with mushy noodles and crunchy rice. There are many dishes to choose from, but I literally did not eat more than one bite of anything. Although I usually expect buffet restaurants to have lower quality food in general, this place was hopeless.

Came to try out the new Sumo Asian Grill. Not a real fan of buffets. Just a word of advice!!! I don’t think it’s fit for vermin consumption… it is gross.

Terrible food. Sushi rice is old like rock hard. It is chinese food not Japanese. Over priced.

This buffet is now called Sumo! I have no idea why the reviews are so terrible because I thought this place was actually quite good! I don’t really understand what people expect from a buffet, they’re all the same unless you’re in Vegas or something! The selection was good and the food tasted decent, exactly what I would expect from an Asian buffet. Prices are also very reasonable.

Food is great but not as good as king’s Buffet and Hokkaido they don’t have much choices. But for the travel time savings is a 5 stars, it’s nearby where I work, I’ll consider this as a plus for my convenience.

2 ½ stars! My family likes to come here from time to time instead of throwing a party at the house. Easy for all my aunties who are always on clean up patrol. The food here is what you’ll expect out of any Asian buffet. Sushi, basic Chinese food, and Mongolian BBQ. I liked the cashew chicken, mushrooms in oyster sauce, and the french fries(lol). Having the cooks cook the Mongolian BBQ is great too but sometimes the lines get long and it’s only one plate per customer(lame — I thought this was AYCE?! Whatever). The duck was so dry, the walnut shrimp had so much breading, and the fried rice was just sad(like really? Fried rice man…). The dessert was also pathetic. I think they take cakes and brownies from boxes because that’s what they tasted like. At least they have a soft serve ice cream machine and a chocolate fountain with fresh fruit and marshmallows. Amen. The tongs and serving spoons were so sticky because they kept actually falling into the tray of food. Not sure how sanitary that is now that I think about it. I had to constantly wash my hands because I’d get some kind of sauce on them. This is place is now called Sumo? And under new management(supposedly). Meh. It’s still mediocre. Nothing like the buffets in Vegas of course but it’ll do.

For goodness sakes what are people expecting from a buffet. I see some of the reviews and it’s likely the same folks who take über instead of real car service and think the holiday inn is the Ritz Carlton. Came here again yesterday for lunch and paid abou $ 12 bucks that’s with a generous $ 1 tip. Pigged out on the 8 or so choices of sushi rolls and Chinese food. What a crowd of folks here… more folks who should not be in a all you can eat pigsty. This is for thin people! Folks who having eating disorders would benefit from a weekly visit. Busy parking lot as they have Ang’s Aaron Brothers and Nordstrom Rack. Love that rack! Excellent for socks(if they match) and discounted work clothes. Bought all the clothes here for my butler.

The food is okay, not great not very bad, just okay. The people that work there are the worst. Each time my friend went, we went around 7:30/8PM, they would stare at us and make us feel very uncomfortable so that we hurry up eating. One time I asked a waiter if he could teach me how to crack crab legs and then he asked me out because he thought I was trying to hit on him?! I wouldn’t go there again because it’s not worth it!!!

Really good fresh food and excellent customer service. Each time I go here I stay for at least 2hours. I drink a pitcher of beer, then I get started with the food. I also buy my left overs to take home for a really low price. What more could anyone ask at a restaurant?

LUNCHREVIEW! Terrible selection at 11.99. I saw the pictures of the sushi on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. At lunch I expected no crab legs, but for sushi, absolutely no raw fish except tilapia! Gross, that’s the most unhealthy and cheap fish available. The other roll were backed salmon, leftover from the buffet the night before and some low quality imitation crab rolls. That’s it! As for the buffet, 90 percent of the food was fried and greasy. The Mongolian and salad bar will be your only saving grace… Hopefully they do a better job at dinner!

I have been going to Zen for about 4 years but the last 2 times I have went for Dinner it was a HUGE disappointment. I generally go for the fish and they were out of crab, steamed fish among other dishes and the sushi was not abundant. I waited for about 30 minutes to bring out the crab and steamed fish then I asked and the people and he said, in a nasty tone, you just have to wait! The choices were slim and I ate everything I would not generally choose because I was hungry. Im seriously not going back there again and I do not recommend it to anyone! When I was leaving and had to pay my bill I told the lady at the cash register that I was disappointed and she told me what I owe her and I was on my way. All they want is your money and do no care if you like it or not

I came to Zen Buffet for the first time with my family to celebrate my mothers birthday. I have to say I was very impressed by the food and the service we received. One of my sons is allergic to peanuts and I noticed that NEAR the chocolate fountain they served peanuts. I did not let him have any chocolate. Katrina the manager noticed how hesitant I was in not allowing him to eat any, that she kindly offered to make him his own little plate of melted chocolate straight from the back kitchen just to be 100% sure there’s no peanut contamination. He loved it with the strawberries!!! :) She made our experience so special and enjoyable! The food was amazing and so was the service! They even came to the table to sing for my mother«Happy Birthday» :) My family and I will definitely be back!

I have not visited this place for months due to bad experience last time as the food was really bad, the Sushi was not fresh. But today I decided to give it a try again, loveeee it! They seem improved the quality of the seafood and I really enjoyed my dinner. Don’t forget to check out their promotion on their website, All I did was showing the ad on my cell phone & they took off the discount, very cool!

I give a five star in comparison to restaurants in the San Fernando. With the demise of Todai Seafood buffet this a good replacement. For a buffet, the food is very tasty and the selection is great. There is always something for everyone. My family loves it. As far as foodies go this place is frowned upon but I find foodies tend be high brow and can only eat at places where they charge a lot for very little and often mediocre food.

Well, it is too expensive considering food quality and variety. I am willing to pay 20 bucks for a good buffet. But Zen Buffet even barely qualifies as Buffet. Worst of all, some food and sushi tasted bad, I wonder how many days they were siting in the fridge. If you read this review as first comer, take my advice’dont go, it is bad enough to have bad food, not to mention the potential risk of food poisoning.‘ If you are a frequent customer, I admire your stomach and courage. Wish you have a healthy lunch/dinner this time.

Medicore food at its best. Pros: — Good variety of food — Chocolate fountain — Ample amount of seating — Easy parking Cons: — Very low AC in the back room. so hot — Slow service(taking plates/drink refills) — Pricey on weekends — not worth it — Almost all desserts(incl. ice cream) are not good. how could they ruin ice cream?! I will give it to them there are a handful of items that are better than other buffets such as the hot & sour soup, crème brûlée, plantains, cold octopus, and chow mein. My dads family enjoys coming here for celebrations since there is a variety of food for the kids and adults. Considering there is 45 of us and we’re paying a lot of money, you would think we had some decent service especially since we were in the back room(no one else was back there) but it took a while for our plates to disappear and to get a refill on drinks. I wouldn’t come to Zen if it wasn’t for my relatives. Thankfully I haven’t gotten sick from the food like other Unilocalers!

This place is very dangerous for folks like me. It’s an all you can eat buffet and I don’t know when to quit. Really, everything Asian you can think of is here. Plus other american style food too. Lots of seafood. Great desserts too. Don’t forget the kids. My radio club meets here every other month. 73′ KG6OFS

Omg I have a headache and crazy dry mouth from all the msg they used in the cooking. They don’t have any nigiri; only rolls and some crappy sashimi(one kind). I would stay away from the rolls altogether, especially because the rice is all dried up. The hot food is okay at first, but then the smell starts to get to you and you feel really greasy. The fried rice wasn’t that bad, though. Desserts: stay away. The only thing that’s halfway decent is the tiramisu, but it’s very sweet. I came here just because I’d passed by it and was curious. It’s mostly Chinese food and pretty clean. It’s a cheap buffet, so you get what you pay for… however, they do seem to offer discounts/coupons online. Unless you’re really really really curious, I’d pass on this place. Minatto sushi on Ventura blvd is better quality. They have better sushi, hot foods, and definitely better ice cream. Zen has bad soft serve :(
