A wow place. Everything was as expected. Super delicious. Fast, Friendly and clean. They also have happy hour, lol not sure if this is why I am writing this review. Jk. Prices are a bit high but worth the food and ambiance. Keep it up. Definitely recommended.

Probably the worst sushi I’ve tasted. Hate to say it but I’m Still nauseous from our meal 4 hours ago. The spicy tuna is tasteless. My favorite roll at most sushi restaurants is spicy tuna on crispy rice. This item at Tomoya was not good — the rice was hardly crispy and again, the spicy tuna was subpar. The tempura used in the rolls and tempura ice cream dessert is bland and semi soggy. No Bueno. We also ordered the sesame chicken from the happy hour menu and it was atrociously tasteless and the chicken used was full of ligaments and grossness. Further, their menu is horribly overpriced and service was nothing special. Highly disappointing and definitely did not curb my sushi craving. Would not return. Next time I’ll drive the extra couple miles to go to kushiyu or chochosan in Encino.

The Fire in the Hole Roll has an extremely weird taste because the sauce has tomato or tomato sauce. It completely ruins the entire roll and masks the taste of the fish. I would suggest completely skipping that roll. 1⁄10 The mussels were good but they bake them with a sugar sauce that’s extremely sweet and ruins the entire mussel. 2⁄10 Lobster Tail Dynamite was a complete joke. A joke. Not a funny joke, like a terrible joke. 0⁄10 This place is absolutely terrible. If you think this is «good» sushi then you are extremely delusional and don’t know the first thing about sushi. I feel bad for you son. Oh, their spicy tuna handroll was okay. If you ever find yourself in a terrible predicament and you end up here… just get that and drown it in soy sauce so you won’t have to taste it. 3⁄10 The interior was nice! 7⁄10

We were actually a bit disappointed. Went for Father’s Day because our usual place is closed on Sunday, so thought we would try this place. Quality of fish is ok — nothing to rave about. Service was mediocre. Prices are high, I think; a roll can cost any where from $ 11-$ 20; our bill was $ 143, not including tip and was nothing over the top. Other places this would cost $ 100, tops. It was very warm in there too, which made for an uncomfortable dining experience. My daughters ordered tempura, which tasted like it was straight out of a freezer, and was very salty. Sadly, we have zero intentions of ever going back. There are far better establishments out there.

Sat at the bar. Yummy sushi. Fast service. I loved their Jake the Snake(Fried California roll) Yes I know that’s not sushi. Lol :-) My hubby and our friend had oysters on the half shell and some other interesting sushi dishes. Presentation was very nice. They gave us chilled sliced watermelon for dessert. Yum! Parking was plentiful.

Not very good. Overhyped white washed sushi spot. Too expensive for the quality and taste of the sushi.

This place never struck me as a sushi place that would have anything special to offer. OK, there is nothing SUPER standout but a very solid place that that I would gladly go back to. I guess it feels(from one visit at lunch) a little more like a chain place than a family-run place which, according to their website, it is(family-run). We sat at a table(the bar didn’t look all that inviting) and the servers were very on it and every dish was good. Decent sake menu and the bottle of Kikusui came over in an ice bucket… it’s those things that I really like. How great that your sake gets colder as the meal progresses rather than becoming room temp? Edamame looked freshly microwaved/steamed… that sounds funny but I’ve seen so many bowls of non-fresh, reheated, wilty-ass edamame. The trio(albacore, salmon and tuna) in truffle oil and garlic was SOSO garlicky… in a good way! Look at the picture… just soaking in this garlic/oil soup but, again, in a GOOD way. The yellowtail belly sashimi(at $ 17) was great.

The food here is delicious and fresh… except for some of the deserts. They seem like an after thought. I have been here twice with my family, and the second time we got some sort of apples covered in chocolate sauce with peanut butter. It was not good :(The chocolate sauce was from a can. The Pepino Hamachi is incredibly fresh and vibrant, with a delicious yuzu sauce, cucumber, pea greens, and jalapenos! We always keep the plate and dip everything else in that sauce. If they bottled it, I’d pay for it, for sure. They also have albacore belly(which my mom loves, but many places don’t carry) and some great blue crab hand rolls!

Amazing food, great staff, awesome service, friendly environment, I asked for a sushi roll(Vegas roll) that wasn’t on their menu, and their chef made it for me, so much better than I expected. I highly recommend this place

We just tried this sushi restaurant for the very first time based on previous Unilocal reviews. It was absolutely amazing — great service, great food, reasonable prices! We had our two young daughters with us and the server immediately brought over trainer chopsticks and forks as well as extra napkins — something that only people that have children or have been in the customer service industry a while seem to appreciate. The fish was excellent! We ordered tuna, albacore, salmon, and albacore belly which was all so fresh and tasted wonderful! The spicy tuna wasn’t really too spicy, but was very flavorful. We will absolutely be back!

Visiting woodland hills overnight and we passed Tomoya on the way to our hotel. We saw a happy hour sign and knew that’s where we wanted to eat for dinner. Servers and staff were friendly and helpful, and very nice. We ordered all happy hour items, sushi were fresh and flavors were great. We liked everything we ordered. I usually don’t like mussels but I tried some since my hubby ordered it and they were pretty good. My favorite was the spicy salmon hand roll, we ordered a second order including the Gyoza my little boys devoured them both. My hubby really liked the sesame chicken, it was battered with tempura and served with a sweet spicy sauce. As for drinks the Nigori sake is always our fav, since it was on the happy hour menu we had to order a bottle, plus a Sapporo. They had a sign in the front advertising free premium sake tasting, so at the end of our meal we asked for it and was served 2 different sakes; a unfiltered sake and a filtered one. The server came by to give us some information on them and we liked both, I personally prefer the unfiltered ones. If we are ever in woodland hills again, we’d come back for more happy hour!

I was having a date night with my boyfriend and decided to give this new place a shot. I was impressed by the ambience and friendly staff. I was also impressed by the quality of the fish they carried. I am a pescetarian and a huge foodie; so I am extremely picky when it comes to trying new sushi spots. The chefs gave great recommendations and addition to that fair prices and good service. The chefs were delightful and catered to our every need. Cant wait to come back for my next sushi date. Thank you Bobby and Jason.

By far, the best sushi restaurant in LA, and I’ve been to many sushi joints, this place is the real deal. Great food, great ambiance and great service. I’ve discovered this place many years ago and I’ve been a loyal customer ever since.

Nice cozy atmosphere. The sushi is ok not the best I’ve had. And good Saki selection. Ordered about 4 rolls, 6 oysters(delicioises!), 3 pitchers of beer, and 2 Sakis. The bill came up to about 185.00. I can say that for the experience it was worth it.

Sweet happy hour deals. Came here after a hike and made it right on time for happy hour. Their price range goes from $ 3.50-$ 6.95. We ordered two-piece salmon, two-piece shrimp(both fresh!), gyoza, takoyaki(nice presentation!), holy crab!(Very flavorful but also very saucy! The kind of sushi you know is not healthy because it’s drenched in sauce!), and a shrimp hand roll which was not on happy hour menu. Everything tastes great and really filled us. It also paired well with a sake bomb. Happy hour does consist of alcohol after all or it’s incomplete. Our sake bomb was $ 5.75 for one large draft mug and hot sake. Service was also great, the waitresses took time to interact with us especially before any crowd came in. Would come again if I’m in the area!

Went there many times and tried a lot of different dishes. The one I order every time is Baked Scallop On CA Roll!!! It is super delicious!!! The sauce is the best!!! Their baked rolls are basically quite good. However, I tried their sashimi once and I think it was not fresh. Their happy hour is cheaper and fewer people. Like the atmospher of the restaurant too.

Fantastic. Lots of great rolls. A whole page of no rice rolls. I had their yellow fin sashimi… to die for. And their samurai love roll with seaweed salad. Everything tastes amazing. At 3 pm on a Saturday, this place was busy.

Great Sushi! This is my first time ever having sushi, and I am glad I picked this place, the dishes were delicious and they were all very yummy, I recommend this place to anyone that wants to eat sushi. I like how they bring the wasabi and ginger on the plate, see my picture to see what I mean. Also what we did to the sushi that usually has imitation crab is we requested real blue crab be put in instead, makes it taste WAY! Better :) The staff was friendly as well :)

I loved the Salmon Carpaccio, I will definitely try the Yellowtail and Albacore version of this at my next visit. I also got a tasty no rice roll with salmon and veggies. The spicy tuna roll with salmon on top drizzled in a delicious sauce was excellent I would get that one again. The menu is large so many choices for sushi, appetizers, hot food and a good variety of lunch specials too. This place is great if you have kids too– bring them along they have a Chicken Terriyaki dish two kids can split. They have a noodle stir fry dish with choices of meat or chicken. I love sushi places that offer variety. Service was a little slow on a Sunday but friendly and accommodating.

Mistakes are made all the time. It may or may not be intentional however, I don’t judge what happened, but what happens afterwards. On to my experience. Lately, I’ve been enjoying dining in the valley as everything is new to me. I’m relying on Unilocal to find places or the recommendations of others. This visit — it was Unilocal that brought me here. Parking was tight but if you don’t mind walking, lots of parking in the next lot over, at Fry’s. Lots of seating. Booths. Tables and even the Sushi Bar. Open floorplan so you can see or be seen. Service was pretty good. Very attentive and very friendly. I like that the staff seems to follow the rule of not walking around empty handed. Very efficient and effective. As for the food — it wasn’t bad. Not bad at all. Between two people, we knocked out more food than some small families do. If you take a look at the pics, know that everyone has different tastes so order what you like. The fish was fresh as well as the ingredients and everything was cooked well, when needed to be and even with the dishes that were seared — it was done just right. There was a little bit of a hiccup with regards to one of the dishes. The zip ties that hold vegetables together must have been tangled up and missed when prepping the food. I wasn’t injured nor grossed out and didn’t want my dish taken away but the server insisted. After all — I had eaten close to 95% of the dish and I was ready to finish off the rest. The server looked to be very embarrassed however she remained professional and calm. She comped dessert(see pic) which really wasn’t necessary but a very nice gesture because everything else was great. All in all, a decent dining experience.
