No idea why this is so highly rated. Food is bland, the waiter is incompetent, there’s no AC, and staff doesn’t speak English so they messed up the orders. No thanks

we order the mayan soup, the chicken tortilla soup and i think they were out of soup because we got flavor water. For a mexican restaurant, this place has no flavor. The fish and shrimp tacos were the same, no flavor. Plane food.

Fantastic neighborhood Mexican restaurant. Will all the parking nightmares at the Village and Topanga malls across the street, it’s so nice to be able to still quickly pop into this strip mall, conveniently park in front, and get great reasonably priced food. The food features flavors from Oaxaca and all the dishes are just more tasty than your typical Mexican restaurant. Everything has that homemade feel. It’s on the hole in the wall side featuring 7 tables inside. The mole sauce is out of this world. They serve it on top of the tortilla chips and it pairs perfectly. I love the carnitas plate. The pork is the perfect combo of moist on the inside and crunchy on the outside. Do yourself a favor and get a side of plantains. They are yummy! It’s served with sour cream and this light and crumbly cheese. The cochinita pibil is another delicious pork dish. Owner Karlos is on site taking care of customers. Whenever I’m in Woodland Hills, my mouth waters at the thought of eating here.

Still the GREATEST shrimp tacos ever!!! I landed up teaching myself how to make bomb fish tacos a while back, so I have to bump these guys down and make myself #1 for fish tacos, but the shrimp tacos here were so perfect. When I lived in Bell Canyon, I would pop over here once a week, take it home, and sneak it into my bedroom so nobody knew what a pig I was when I just slammed these tacos into my face. I looked like a beast eating them, but man were they good!!! The staff is sooooooo nice, too. They’re always happy to not only help you pick your food, but also give you little history lessons on where the food comes from. Really great place! I’ve also never seen it crowded, which is awesome, because I don’t have time for all that!

As I walked in, I was greeted with a friendly man who took my order. I ordered a two tacos plate that included beans, rice, a fish taco, and a steak taco. The fish was cooked perfectly, but the steak was slightly over cooked. However, the veggies, salsa, and sauces added on top of the tacos made up for it. The beans and rice were not too salty; they were perfectly seasoned. I was definitely impressed with the food so I will for sure be coming back! :)

This place is amazing. The service from the owner is great. He comes and tries to connect with his customers and make them laugh. The food is amazing from the tacos to the tortas to the soups and just about everything in the menu. The mole is die for! I wish this place was closer to my house but I don’t mind the drive here. Great place!!!

Horrible experience! Me and my family have come here every so often, this time we came on an early weekend morning. we ordered our drinks/food, and by then we noticed the older waiter, or owner(wasn’t in uniform), disappeared. We didn’t mind too much, but we suddenly noticed a strong smell of cigarettes throughout the restaurant while its doors were open. We saw two men smoking only 10 feet from the door! And it was apparently the waiter, no less than a minute later did he come in(without washing his hands) to serve us. Very irresponsible, I had an 1 year old with me, and there were several other tables seated, but no one made a comment. I will definitely not be returning.

I’ve been to this restaurant three times so far because it’s close to my work, but let me tell you I’m so obsessed with this place! The food is amazing, I usually go to Mexican restaurants for some tacos or a full meal and it’s not the best, but the food here makes you want to come back for more. The owner is really nice and you can tell he cares about his customers. The food presentation is soo nice as well. I definitely recommend any one to come eat here! You won’t regret it. Oh and their drinks are made from scratch, I just had an horchata and it was very refreshing.

The food was«ok.» Nothing I would go back for but I will defiantly go if my craving El Lote and don’t want to look for one of the neighborhood shopping cart. Haha! They also have a Mayan soup that’s good. Perfect kind is soup if your sick. Just add some cholula.

A great hole in the wall Mexican restaurant! The chicken enchiladas with green sauce are delicious! They give complimentary chips and mole(which is pretty spicy & addictive), and they serve bottled water/sodas only. I’ll be coming back to try the elotes.

Very good food. We have picked up from here a number of times when we want Mexican food that is more than just taco’s. I wish there was a clearer menu online — that would make ordering pickup more straightforward — as it is we need to look at the picture of the menu in the Unilocal reviews.

I found out about this place on Unilocal.I just moved to this area and was looking for some good spots to try out, I am so pleased that I did. The gentleman that helped was incredibly polite and even corrected my pronunciation of Oaxaca when I completely butchered it. I got 5 tacos, chips and salsa and a soda for $ 7! That is absolutely unheard of. Everything was so delicious. If you’re in the area and looking for awesomeness in your belly, I highly recommend this place.

Yay to this scrumptious little hole in the wall. Damn good and very fresh. Of course I’m judging the freshness by the fish tacos! Mmmm I caught them during the holidays at lunch. Place was all mine:-) I was served quickly and everything was on point. I’ve never had fish tacos quite like these — the sauce was savory and not to thick. Very juicy and no fishy smell. It was a pretty special hour lunch break. I went back to the job wondering if I should reveal the new come up… I didn’t tell em until the following week. Now I’m the damn«runner». Sucks. Didn’t care to much for the mole chips to start. But then again mole is not something I crave ever.

Great food at a great price! Not your typical Mexican fare though — Oaxacan has some unique flavors many using chocolate as a base. Very friendly owner.

I revisited this place after not dining here in some time… and the quality has gone down from when they first opened. The freshness was not there and everything tasted old. I ordered the Chicken Enchilada and Chile Relleno plate. First, everything on the plate was cold. The once delicious chile relleno was not the same as I remembered. It seemed like it was previously made and stored in the fridge for a long time. There was no fluffy coating, the chile basically was mush and oil from the cheese was oozing out onto my plate. Not good. The red enchilada sauce was flavorless. We also ordered the Carne Asada plate and the meat was dry. At the end of the night both our tummies were not feeling well. I once loved this place, but I don’t know if I can vouch for it.

Oaxaca is a southern state in Mexico and it apparently produces seven varieties of mole(manchamanteles, chichilo, Amarillo, rojo, verde, coloradito and negro) –Thank you, Wikipedia for educating me. Now, I’m sharing that bit of information with you. Why? Well because, Karlo’s & Koke’s Fresh Mexican Grill has thee best chips and mole. What makes it even better –they’re FREE while you wait for your food(or well, I got them free)! Being serious now, the mole is incredible! I’m not sure what type of Oaxaca mole it was(I know, I should of asked. Wasn’t very Elite of me to not find out and ask), but it has a bit of a kick. I’d come back just to have more chips and mole. I ordered the shrimp tostada $ 8.99. Had about 8 large shrimps, fresh, adequate portion size. The tostada shell isn’t as yummy and puffy as El Pollo Loco’s-Do you know what I’m talking about? Karlo & Koke’s tostada shell is overall crispy and hard type of shell. El Pollo Loco’s tostadas are also bigger portions –just sayin, for comparison as some people are about quantity over quality. Don’t get me wrong, overall it is good/satisfying. Restaurant is very casual, nothing fancy, small hole-in-the-wall spot. Surprisingly not busy for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. Service was excellent. The little girl at the register happily refilled our chips and mole basket(probably about three times) as we waited for our food to arrive. I’d go back to try other items.

Hole in the wall place but is the BOMB! Fish tacos — really good(4 stars) Shrimp tacos — once I tried their shrimp I don’t get anything else but this each time!(5 stars) Sweet corn– I’m used to chasing the paletero man around town for an elote but now I can just drop by here & pick it up. It is soooooooo good! It’s deff a must! Restaurant décor/vibe– small & narrow. But it’s chill for a hole in the wall place. Server was sweet though(3 stars) Customer service– 5 stars
