This place was decent last year when we stopped on our way through. This year, however, the service was extremely poor, the fries were cold and soggy, and the seafood chowder tasted like it came from a can. We won’t be back.

Such a bad experience last night. It began with waiting FOREVER to order. Understandably Saturday nights are busy… but this was a little too long. We finally ordered our food and the waiter tells me that I can’t have what I want. That it would take too long to prepare.(It’s fish btw. How long could that take??). My fiancé was going to order something until the waiter made a face and said it wasn’t good. Next was when we asked for a little more of the«complimentary» popcorn and the waiter told us «NO, you need to save room for your dinner and dessert.» We thought he was joking! But alas, he wasn’t. Our entrees finally come out. The burger I settled on was slightly undercooked. My fiancé’s was less than pleased with his chicken dinner. His response to me asking how his meal was.“I’m not in a rush to go back.” Mind you, until this night it was one of our favorite places. It could have been saved by the dessert, but they came out frozen. The only decent part of our meal was our soups. Lastly, I glanced at the check and left it where the waiter put it. I laid it on the table, which I shouldn’t have done. Usually that signals the waiter it’s ready to be picked up. I know that! As soon as I did it, the waiter came over and said, «I’ll get change for you.» I responded with, «I’m sorry, it’s not ready. I knew as soon as I put it down. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have.» He says back to me in an extremely loud and condescending tone, «Well that’s why I leave it standing up. When you put it down, it means it’s ready.» I actually started to cry.(It was so embarrassing!!) It’s truly unfortunate that this had to happen. I will NEVER return to this restaurant. The whole experience was such a turn off. The fact that this waiter thought it was ok to act the way he did is not ok. I don’t know if he thought he was being funny or what, but it was so unnecessary. It’s funny too, the waitress at the table next to ours was so nice! She went out of her way to be friendly to us and we weren’t even her table. I was so jealous we didn’t have her! Had we had her, the experience could have been totally different.

Great local family restaurant. Lovely service and great food! We had three unruly toddlers and our sweet waitress was on top of crayons, orders and help. I highly recommend the fish tacos.

Walked in to kill some time while my car was in the shop and date at the bar. The bartender was an absolute doll! So friendly and helpful and the beer was ice cold!

Went here today and it was nice and clean. The lady who showed us our table walked into me but whatever. The bathrooms were clean but my friend had a nice cup of ice water until she tasted it and said it tasted like«ass». I tasted it too and she was correct. It indeed tasted like ass. They gave her a spirit instead. The appetizer was 11 min late and 50 sec before our food came out. We receive our food 11 min and 37 Sec after we order which was good. However My friend did order medium rare for a burger and she got well done. She was appalled. My other friend thought it was good food.

So we went in Saturday night for early dinner, seated quickly the server came over and asked if we wanted anything to drink. He then informed us there were new menu items no excitement ok. so then we sat, and we sat and we sat(I was wondering if the Bud lights we ordered were in the way from St. Louis… finally he appeared with the beers. fearing we may never see him again we placed the entire order, appetizers and entrees at once(never a good idea at these places –stay tuned). so after waiting between ten and fifteen minutes my wife who could see the window to the kitchen said, «They just handed our server our meals and he gave them back, I bet he forgot to put in our appetizer.» Sure enough another seven minutes elapsed(meanwhile people around us who had arrived ten to fifteen minutes after we did had their appetizers, meals were being served– as they should be) Up to the table pops our server with coasters for our drinks(always a good idea to wait thirty minutes after you deliver the drinks to bring coasters) and said you potato skins will be up shortly. so out came the appetizer we ate them although they were screaming hot fresh from the microwave. fifteen minutes more out came the meals. again scalding hot fresh from the microwave neither item could be eaten, the french fries were like rubber. after pushing the plates aside we were handed our check, inserted the card and waited and waited again. this time a woman wearing a bright blue shirt different from the servers came by and said i will take this for ou and walked all the way up to the front of the restaurant where she apparently saw people she knew arriving dropped the check and began hugging all of these people and seating them(apparently our check was of no interest anymore. Our server appeared perplexed so we explained a woman had taken it so off he went to the front of the restaurant five minute went by and he came back to the register in the rear of the restaurant to cash us out. by this time I was livid with the treatment we had received, so I said to the server if you were deliberately trying to annoy us you did a good job I am not happy with the way we were treated, he shrugged it off with absolutley not the slightest concern couldn’t have cared less– no apology nothing. last time i will darken the door of this place because apparently they just don’t care about people. Addendum: it has been two days since I was treated as I explained above. I also notified 99 Restaurants corporate office and today I received a response that was so lame and insincere. After reading their note I am more annoyed than I was Saturday night. If Saturday night was a slap to the face, today’s note was a spit in my face. By their arrogance it is clear they just don’t get it

I go to the 99’s once in awhile, and I’m usually satisfied with their food. Not overpriced, always consistent, and not too long of a wait. Not this time unfortunately, so it’s payback time. I went here for lunch the other day, wasn’t too busy, and I had time to relax while I eat. Got one of my usual’s, Fish & Chips lunch menu, rice and vegetables this time instead of fries and coleslaw. Didn’t wait too long, out came my meal, placed in front of me. First thing I noticed, since it’s the main food on the plate, was the fish. The fillet wasn’t much bigger than a frozen fish stick. It wasn’t a nice dark toasty brown as usual either, so I could tell it wasn’t fried too long. That makes a difference when you take a fork to it, the breading completely separates from the fish instead of clinging to it which makes it better to dip into the tarter sauce. The waitress also asked me if I wanted tarter sauce beforehand I remember. Who get’s Fish & Chips without tarter sauce?! Are they trying to cut costs on a lousy cup of mayo and relish? Tried the rice. Crunchy bits of rice and lukewarm. Undercooked. Let’s try the broccoli. Cold. They must use frozen bags of veggies that they nuke for their meals. Try nuking it longer next time guys. Took a sip of my water. Tasted like pool water, chlorine after taste. Needless to say I left as hungry as when I came in. Let’s get back to the pub as a whole. It used to be a nice cozy place that wasn’t too over lighted and noisy inside. Now there’s too many lights and TV’s everywhere, as well as music on top of that in the background from somewhere. And why is that these pubs think everyone is a sports fanatic with the same game on all six TV’s? How about putting on a news channel on some or maybe a movie channel? No. I have to have the latest Little League championship from Iowa blasting me at every angle. And who came up with this, get to know the customer more intimately instead of just taking their order, giving them a number, and staying out of their personal lives if you don’t know them? «Hi my name is___your waitress, and what’s your name? Nice to meet you Dave, how’s your day going?!» Either that, or now your a «guest» instead of a customer. I feel like I’m at family Thanksgiving dinner instead of just wanting to fill my belly and go on my way. I’ll probably go back to the 9’s in the future, not as much as I used to, but it sure as Heck won’t be this particular one.

Froze to death. Bring winter gear, snorkel coat and feet warmers. Would or could not stop freezing air blowing the entire dinner.

Food is average at best but the prices are very reasonable. The only thing my wife likes on the menu is the prime rib. In my opinion, it is actually their best dish but they only serve it after 4pm. They do have a prime rib sandwich on the lunch menu but it is not always available… Actually, it has never been available when ever we have gone before 4pm… but yet it is on the menu… figure that one out. One other odd thing about the Ninety Nine is that they only offer wings on the bone(buffalo or otherwise), on Thursdays and Sundays. not sure why but they dont. Everything else in my opinion is okay… Nothing amazing but priced right… so, it is what it is…

Takeout from here is awful. They lost our order because no one bothered putting it in the computer when I called and they asked me to prove that I called them with the call log on my phone. lunch was depressing as well. Went in a few minutes after they opened and you could tell they weren’t used to that. Everyone was staring at my friend and I, whispering and rolling their eyes. My soda was like water and two things I tried ordering weren’t available yet. The food I got tasted like normal 99 food but I could’ve done without the looks and would’ve preferred to eat what I went in there to get.

We go here once a year or so just to remind ourselves why we don’t go here. Mission accomplished! Let’s see… Didn’t get the side of oranges with the kid’s meal. I tried to get one of the flatbreads without the caramelized onions and was told«It comes like that»(which of course means it’s prefab frozen garbage). My wife ordered the chicken finger wrap with no tomatoes, except with tomatoes. I ordered my burger with a side of mayo which never came. After a long time I had an opportunity to ask for it. After another long time she brought it, except it was… sour cream. After another long time I had an opportunity to point this out, and after another long time she brought mayonnaise — which looked and tasted like it had been put under a heat lamp for days. There were multiple shards of bone in my burger, which to be fair tasted pretty terrible even before I noticed it was a little crunchy. I had ordered a side salad with my burger which never came, although I was charged for it. After another long time I had an opportunity to point this out, to which she curtly responded, «Jesus sorry, that’s what happens when someone else brings out the food.» To think I wasted $ 60 on this atrocity of a meal/experience when there was a perfectly good Taco Bell across the street…

This particular 9’s location is another staple from my suburban upbringing, and has some strong sentimental value for me. In high school, «The 9’s» was another safe haven in which us licensed kids who were lucky enough to be free of curfews could hang out an hour later than everyone else to feast on free popcorn, Wheat Thins with cheese spread, and $ 6 Gold Fever Wings. Over the years, there has been some uproar about the giveth and taketh awayeth of the free popcorn and Thins, probably because we abused this privilege on a regular basis. The jury’s still out over whether they remain complimentary at this time. The food isn’t atrocious, but, well, it’s just… not good. Now that I like to consider myself an adult whose pallet has outgrown the likes of cheap chain food, I only visit this lovely establishment for drinks and Thursday night trivia. I don’t mean to be a food snob, but I can’t help that I don’t get jazzed about reheated potato skins and pub Schrod. I love The 9’s for my own reasons: the memories! And the booze. It’s perfect for catching up with old friends either at the bar, or nestled away in one of their quaint booths. One thing worth noting is I only like to go when I’m feeling social, because there always seems to be at least someone within +\-5 years of my graduating class at this hometown hero locale. I hope The 9’s sticks around for years to come, so by the time I’m returning home for my 30th high school reunion, I’ll be able relive some adolescent memories at one of the very scenes of the crime!

I visit Burlington once a month and used to love this place. But I’m not going back because the service is so slow and spotty. Takes forever to get water and sodas, forgot refills, didn’t bring silverware, etc. are all things that have happened to me over the last couple of visits. Food is hit or miss. I can have a great burger and cup of soup and then have a terrible piece of fish. I could live with going there for a burger, but I can’t wait 10 minutes to get attention of the waitstaff.

Every now and then my friends and I have the urge to get creative and rotate a new restaurant into our weekly lineup. This week, we were met with epic failure. Let me grace you with a bulleted list of the adventure we had: –Our drinks were never refilled in the 50 minutes that we were there. They were emptied somewhere around the 15 – 20 minute mark. Especially after our food came. Big red flag here. –The waitress told me that my sandwich could not be made without cheese because it was«premade». First, telling a customer they can’t have a request as simple as no cheese honored is incredulous, second, letting them know your food isn’t actually prepared at the restaurant? Really? –Each of our checks came out to over ten dollars. The portions, quality of food, and menu choices certainly didn’t reflect this. Could our waitress just have been having a tough day? Maybe. I’m inclined to hope. However, several red flags were waved today, and I’m pretty confident this place won’t be in our lunch rotations again anytime soon.

This 99, like all 99s, is one of those restaurants that tries too hard to reach a wide number of customers by being half bar and half«family restaurant». Much of the food it serves is just bar food(for example, free popcorn for an appetizer), crusted chicken or heavy pastas — the cheap food that gets you full quick, with little flavor or imagination. It’s either too loud, or full of elevator music. It has some sweet deserts, though it’s nothing you couldn’t make at home better for 1⁄3rd of the price. In short, it’s nothing special. Dispite its failure to sell food, however, it does serve the purpose of being an average joint to take those friends you don’t want in your house out to dinner.
