I’ve tried several Asian restaurants in North Carolina and Virginia and this one is one of my favorites by far. I love the menu variety and the fast service. The staff has always been friendly. I always get the chicken cashew with mushrooms and steamed rice, my fiancé is more adventurous than I though and is always pleased with his order. Their crab cream cheese Waltons are the best thing ever. Always craving this place.

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised about Tanoshii Japanese Restaurant. Firstly, they do not just serve Japanese cuisine. They have a huge menu that ranges from Udon noodle, to hibachi style cooking, to various types of Chinese dishes. Secondly, the staff is quite friendly. I told the young man that I found them on Unilocal and that they had a very solid rating, and he thanked me. I had no idea that they were there, and I’ve been to the surrounding restaurants numerous times. Praise goodness for Unilocal! And last but not least, the dishes they serve up are amazingly tasty and reasonably priced. I ordered the hibachi steak with fried rice. You get a whole plate full of freshly prepared food. There was no one else in the restaurant at the time, so the chef began preparing our meals as soon as we ordered. The steak was cooked to the perfect medium rare, which is difficult to achieve when you order hibachi. The vegetables were a mix of zucchini, onions, and mushrooms. All of this was only $ 8! I will definitely be back to Tanoshii, and will probably bring my co-workers with me next time! Thanks for a great meal!

The best Asian takeout I’ve had in a good while. Excellent staff, amazing Japanese and Chinese cuisine. We ordered the clear soup(exceptionally tasty, simple, and fresh), the beef yakitori(just like my parents used to make it; full of flavor, very tender, perfectly seasoned) with fried rice, crab wontons, and spring rolls. They were generous with the crab in the wantons, but I wished they had more cream cheese. The spring rolls were standard, small, nothing special. However, the clear soup and yakitori(our Japanese options) were excellent; everything in combination was perfectly tasty and filling. I also really appreciated the owner coming out and personally asking if we enjoyed the food. That means a lot when they come out and ask, and it says a lot about their passion and efforts to be exceptional! We will just have to order more/different Chinese next time to really be able to say both the Chinese and Japanese sides are great, since we did not get any Chinese entrees and the appetizers were pretty standard! I also wish that they did not serve on styrofoam, as I am slightly environmentally conscious and really hate to use and throw out styrofoam. Other than that, we will DEFINITELY be back! Overall, despite my critiques, 5 stars for the tender, well-cooked beef, good customer service, and variety of options and flavors.

This has to be some of the best Chinese and Japanese in town. I have eaten in, had delivered, and done take out several times. I have tried both the Chinese and Japanese and both are very good. My favorite Chinese item is the Barbecue Pork. Basically it is like pieces of pork loin in a sauce(very awesome at that) and grilled onions. I get the combo so you get your choice of fried rice or white rice, egg roll or crab Rangoon. To me there egg rolls are awesome, they aren’t what I call a cabbage log. The crab Rangoon was good, but not my cup of tea. Also if you like soup they have amazing Chinese soup. My wife loves their hot and sour soup. I love their chicken corn soup. The Japanese I had your typical steak and chicken. My favorite thing when you order steak here unlike most of the Japanese/sushi places they ask how you want your steak cooked. Japanese comes with the same fried rice you get with Chinese which is very good. It also has grilled veggies, onions and zucchini. There are some, and I say some mushrooms which makes me super happy. I hate them, and I find when you order Japanese steak at most places it should read mushrooms with some steak! The white sauce is yum! Honestly I have never been disappointed with anything we have ordered. There are some things I may not order again, but I am glad I tried them. Also talk to the staff about the menu, they are very friendly, and have made some great selections for us!

This is a solid eatery for both Chinese and Japanese food. Let’s be honest, you’re shopping at Walmart or watching a movie at Wynnsong, whoa-stop. Suddenly you have a craving for asian food, you don’t want to run the 15 minute limit where cravings end. Good lord, Tanoshii stands as a savior on the hill. They do take out, but I suggest dining there! Normally I would suggest something specific but with this quality, you really can’t go wrong with anything you order!

This is by far the best Japanese/Chinese restaurant in Winston~Salem. My wife and I are visiting from Los Angeles and the food is quite comparable. The staff goes out of their way to be nice and sociable.

My husband and I tried this place a few days ago. We ordered takeout and the customer service was fast and friendly. We shared an order of chicken and broccoli and general tsao. The chicken and broccoli was delicious! Some of the best I’ve had in a while. We have been on a quest to find good cheap Chinese food in the Triad and this was a pretty good find. The general tsao was my favorite. It has a sweet chili element to it that a lot of places don’t have. I loved the flavor. The rice was ok, nothing to write home about. All in all it was a great meal and we will be repeat customers.

Couldn’t ask for a better Japanese restaurant. Friendly owners and delicious food at reasonable prices… all around winner! Certainly not a «joint».

Tanoshii is not a fancy dine in restaurant. But, it is an excellent take out restaurant. The best Wonton Soup in town. Shocking, but true! Each wonton is actually filled with a meatball sized piece of ground pork, rather than the slivers of pork that most restaurants in this area use. The Hibachi Filet meat is as good as you get at any Japanese Steak House in Winston-Salem. The Crab Meat Cheese Wontons are superb!!! These wontons are full of crab meat. Delivery is available and service is friendly.

Be aware, this is a carry out joint. It is most assuredly a nicely furnished carry out joint but none the less, it is what it is. At first we were encouraged by the clean and well decorated interior; much better than the average hole in the wall. Unfortunately things went downhill from there. I was looking forward to a well-reviewed soba and ordered the full monty, house version. As near a tasteless soup as you could imagine. Complete with artificial«seafood» and scallops that had been in the freezer too long. My daughter had a stir fry beef of some sort. It was a little better. I think these folks are much better at frying than cooking. The worst was the pork dumplings that we started with. They may have been better fried but steamed they were a gooey mess. If you like carry out there may be other items on the menu worth trying but we won’t be back.

Really the best Chinese/Japanese place in town. I live in Raleigh, and anytime I want Chinese or Japanese, I end up craving Tanoshii and all its wonders. You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, there’s something for everyone. And the owners and employees are delightful as well.

As far as Asian food goes in W-S, there is a lot of room for improvement(a real sit-down Chinese place, please?). However, Tanoshii is quite the surprise! The owners are super friendly and nice, the food is fresh and very tasty. Udon is very good. The soba isn’t really soba, but how many people are going to call them on that? Potstickers are very good. The best part: the sesame balls(jin dui) —who knew you could find those in W-S?!
