For a quick take home sushi dinner you can’t beat it. For a one person sushi meal takes about 10 minutes. Larger orders 20 – 30. I will call and order and swing by and pick it up. Seems to be easier to call a little closer to 8:00pm. Any earlier and the phone lines are slammed. I have fallen in love with the geisha roll and squid salad.

I absolutely love Kimono! Not only was our takeout ready in 10min, the sushi was fresh and full of flavor. I had California rolls and also the Rainbow Rolls and it was truly an experience in my mouth that was perfectly balanced in flavor, texture, fresh and light. We ordered the Teriyaki Chicken with mixed vegetables also with fried rice and sweet carrots. The chicken was juicy with sautéed vegetables and rice and the glazed carrots were just sweet enough. The staff was very friendly and I love that they opened the boxed before I paid to ensure I was satisfied! I love dining in as well because it’s spacious, clean and always just as high quality, yet not expensive. They have their menu online which is great too. I can’t wait to return again soon because just talking now about it now makes me crave it again!

Very decent restaurant, I love the food and the kind workers. They are usually good with their food but occasionally I get some under cooked meals when I go there, but very seldom do I get a meal like this.

Have been going here since I was in high school, but went tonight for the first time in probably 6 years. The extra spicy steak teriyaki was delicious! The staff is awesome and so welcoming. We had a great, inexpensive, easy dinner! It will now be a regular dinner spot once again! :)

Went there for a hibachi style dinner. The service was quick, the food(Miso soup, house salad, sushi, & the hibachi shrimp) were all very good & fresh. Our server was great. Food came out timed perfectly, our beverages were never empty before being attended to. It was an overall good dining experience & we will return. Only 4 stars ’cause we went there expecting a full bar(as according to Unilocal it has just that) only to find out that is not the case.

Mostly, I am happy to have a sushi option in Winston Salem. I give this a 3.5 star rating. Having lived in San Diego for many years, I have had some fabulous sushi. Kimono had a menu full of options, including shashimi, which I appreciate. I tried the soft crab, a shashimi variety and the playboy roll. All were fine, good. I am not raving about the freshness, but still glad to have sushi. I will go back and try some other items and report back. THANKFULLY, I don’t think I saw a TV.

I have been going here for 4 years and it has been a consistent comfort food to me in an always changing medical school career. Great, consistent and real-tasting hibachi chicken and delicious vegetables. They have wonderful front desk staff who know me by name. It’s very inexpensive for good quality hibachi and very fast service. Highly recommended!

I will preface my review by stating that I am neither a hibachi or sushi connoisseur. I have, however, been eating here since I could drive. I always get the same thing: hibachi pork with no veggies. This dish accompanied with the mayo based sauce is delicious. The prices here are also quite accessible. The staff are usually on their toes and they are friendly, especially if you are a regular. They also recently started giving you sliced oranges at the end of the meal. I love this touch because it helps clean the palate. Overall not a bad spot… it’s a place i always visit when I come home, home.

i only had the hibachi food here because i am from LA and an admitted sushi snob so i didnt want to risk it. North Carolina isnt exactly asian food paradise but i am glad there has been more and more japanese places popping up. if you havent been spoiled with the worlds best sushi then you will probably like this place.

I didn’t mind this place! I though the interior was nice it felt clean and bright. Others have complained about the miso soup but I personally enjoyed it. I thought the flavors were good and basically was the same as what you would find at most Japanese restaurants. I got a shrimp tempura roll with avocado and it was suppose to come with spicy mayo but it came with eel sauce instead. I wasn’t thrilled with this, but I was hungry so I did not want to wait to get a new one. For our main dish we got the hibachi steak. It was okay but not something I would necessarily get again; the steak could have used a bit more seasoning and was a little tough. If someone asked me to go back to this place I would without hesitation, but I don’t think I will be choosing this place personally for dinner again anytime soon.

Delicious salmon combo! Size a little small for the cost but my fish tasted fresh. Also had a great seaweed salad. Beer selection a little weak but not atypical for this type of restaurant in my experience. Overall good but not quite great.

So first off, let me just say that I have tried A LOT of different Sushi places, both in RI and MA and a few since moving to NC, so Sushi is by far nothing new to me or my fiancée. Since it’s not new me there is a level of expectation — of which all criteria Kimono failed horribly. First let’s begin with the food itself(generally the most important part), the miso soup was dominated by scallion with little tofu or seaweed, the gyoza resembled the type you buy from the grocery store and reheat in the oven — to the point where we were not asked if we could have them steamed or fried(when I asked if we could have them steamed we were told no) and the dumpling sauce came in a little prefab container you see at the likes of cheap eat places with a ketchup pump. I must say I was also disappointed that there were no other general Japanese staples on the menu other than the vaguely worded«[meat/meat-substitute product here] hibachi», no Yakisoba, no Donburi of any kind, not even Green tea ice cream(just american out of the freezer deserts from the looks of it). On that note — the only green tea they served was bagged green tea from sencha. But, considering that this is not only a «Japanese Restaurant» but also a Sushi bar, you’d think the Sushi couldn’t be that bad, right? Oh, I wish you were, because that was my mistake. Our total order comprised of octopus & smoked salmon nigiri, as well as an order of unagi(eel and cucumber w/a sweet glaze), spicy yellowtail, and california roll. The Nigiri overall was not bad in quality however they seemed to have entirely skimped on the rice using the size that resembled about one segment of my pinky finger, and the actual fish portions on the rolls was barely there. One of the unagi rolls did not even have any actual eel in it, it was just cucumbers, seaweed, and rice! While there were no other pieces of any of the other rolls that lacked their principal ingredient, all of them were just barely present enough for the eye to see with the bulk of the roll taken up by vegetables. You’d think that there would at least be some upside to this place if the food can’t even be good, but no there is not — when looking at the menu my fiancée noticed they had Philadelphia rolls, which are served in every other place I and she have ever been to with Salmon — Kimono apparently thinks it should be crab — we asked if there was any way we could substitute the crab with Salmon the waiter LAUGHED at us and said no, a substitution which should not be difficult if they are making this fresh. Presentation was also pitiful/nonexistent with a High School Home Economics student in all likelihood coming up with a better result. The prices, to boot were by no means competitive to past experiences, they were as much if not more than places other places we’ve enjoyed very much only the Sushi was more designed for a someone who only eats chicken to come out of their«comfort zone». If you like actual Sushi and not feeling like your wallet has been picked over for eating mostly rice and cucumber avoid Kimono, it is a waste of your time, money, and patience.

I ordered the Habachi Scallop Bowl with mixed vegetables(on brown rice) and shared the Regular Sashimi plate/Eel roll with my classmates. They love this place so it pains me to criticize it :-(. Let’s start with the good stuff. Their sushi/sashimi is good! It’s presented well, and it’s tasty. There’s nothing much more to sashimi than the quality of the source material. Moving on to the not-so-great. The rice for my Habachi Scallops were so drenched in soy sauce that I couldn’t finish it. It’s such an amenable flaw but it really ruins a meal. The bowl includes eight small scallops that are skewered. I did like their flavor but prefer a slightly chewier textured scallop. I did not use the thousand-island-like sauce that came with the meal and am starting to believe it would’ve made my meal 10x better. Kimono is not a great value but it’s one of the few Japanese restaurants in Winston Salem so there’s not much to compare it with. If my bowl had been less salty and the sushi been slightly less expensive, I would’ve given it 3 – 4 stars.

This place was clean and the service was prompt. We ordered the most expensive fried sushi roll and it was less than average. There was a lot let wanting for. The outside was a bit undercooked and under seasoned. The«special sauce» was honestly nothing special at all. Would go back of friends went but wouldn’t offer it up anytime soon

On a trip to visit the ‘rents last weekend, we went out for lunch and decided we were in the mood for Japanese eats. My folks took me to Kimono at Country Club Rd. Not bad for a lunch spot, I’ll give them an A-OK 3 stars on this trip. The place is very nice, in a relatively new shopping center at the intersection of Country Club and Peace Haven. Very clean, and there was no wait when we entered, which I considered great being that it was after noon on a Sunday. I started off with the clear onion soup and the Gyoza(fried pork dumplings). They were good starters, not much flavor in the soup but it was good, and I am a dumpling fan, though I prefer steamed to fried most of the time. I had the salad with the ginger dressing, and as I really love house ginger dressing, this dressing seems a bit heavy. Not bad, but a little heavier that I am used to. I ordered the hibachi steak for my entrée. It was ok, not a lot of flavor in the meat and I was a little disappointed in the portion of meat but it was good nonetheless. My parents however loved their combination entrees they had. I can tell they are fans, and I think in time this place could grow on me as a lunch mainstay. Kimono is probably more on the 3.5 star cusp but I’m hoping they can see 4 with future visits I can make when home visiting the folks. But for a quick and easy lunch opportunity, it fits the bill.

I stopped into Kimono at an off hour(2:15) on Saturday to get some lunch. I had a coupon($ 3 off if I spend $ 15) so I decided to splurge. I got the chicken and steak combo and started with some edamame. The soup that came before the meal just tasted off. I know it was a clear broth with scallions in it but the aroma and the taste were just slightly off-putting. The salad was fine. I got the ginger dressing but didn’t really love it. The edamame were under seasoned so I sprinkled some salt on them. Otherwise they were hot and tasty. The entrée plate was certainly filling. LOTS of rice and tasty pieces of broccoli, chicken and steak with some sweet carrots. The service was fine definitely not overwhelmingly good or bad. Just OK. I certainly think I got my money’s worth but I don’t think Kimono will be my first choice for Japan food in the future.

As far as a quick casual lunch goes — this is the place when you are craving some hibachi chicken. They even have the sweet carrots and the white sauce for your rice/meat. sum it up: it was quick, it was good and I was full, enough said.
