We stopped here for Sunday brunch as we were driving through Winston. We saw it had mixed reviews and we should have avoided it, but we were hungry and I wanted eggs. For starters, they brought out a bread basket with biscuits, cornbread and burnt or stale or both mini muffins. Our food took over 30 minutes to come to our table. My husband ordered the daily special of quiche which was served cold(but should have been hot!). He had also ordered a side of grits and potatoes, but only the grits were brought out. He sent the quiche back which must have been microwaved or put under the broiler for too long as it came back dry and crusty. It looked and tasted terrible and my husband took one bite and was done. I ordered the eggs Benedict which was fine. Nothing special. We were ready to get back on the road and the waitress asked us if she should go talk to her manager about the quiche. It seems unfortunate to me that she didn’t think to do that on her own or she wasn’t empowered to make that simple update to our bill. Either way, we were charged for the quiche and we will select a different brunch option next time we are in the area.

Our first time at Hutch and Harris. We decided to go with burgers since we were craving a juicy burger. These burgers were really awesome, juicy and perfectly cooked just the way we wanted them… medium. I had the Southside burger which was a juicy burger topped with pimento cheese, chopped jalapenos, crispy apple-wood bacon, lettuce and tomato served with H&H fries. My fiancée got the the Candy Store burger. fopped with Gorgonzola cheese, crispy apple wood bacon, lettuce and tomato. We were impressed with the burgers at Hutch and Harris and will go back to try some other plates they offer. All I can vouch for is the burgers. Give them a shot. You won’t be disappointed.

My brother and I stumbled across this place while looking for another bar. We decided to check this out instead… Mainly because of the large sign outside that said«Side Bar». The outdoor seating was full, which I can’t blame them. Lovely weather for it in March. Once we got inside, it was tumbleweeds. I didn’t look at as a bad thing. We should get great service since there wasn’t anyone else to wait on indoors. We sat at the bar and was promptly greeted by the bartender. She was very friendly and knowledgeable about the liquors in stock and foods on the menu. I ordered a Jack ‘n Ginger and she did not skimp on the Jack. Or maybe its been a while since I had one… Either way, delicious. We both ordered hot wings and they came out pretty quickly. My brother and I were skeptical that they may either be fried too hard or undercooked. We were wrong. They were amazing! A small crowd formed while my brother and I were basking in our culinary bliss. I would come back and try out some other foods. Fellow patrons were pleased with the sandwiches they ordered.

We walked here to eat on a Friday night. It took the waiter 15 minutes to even offer us drinks. We felt invisible. When the food came out my steak was way underdone(I requested medium well) and then took 15 minutes for them to cook it proper. By then I had finished my sides. When the steak has come back to me it was overcooked and tough. My husband had the pasta with steak which he said was ok. I won’t be going back.

Wanted to try this place for a long time now. Finally. Date night with the wife only to be quite disappointed. When we were seated, it took a while for anyone to acknowledge us at all. No one came by to take a drink order. Waiters walked by and in fact attended to others who were seated after we were. When our waiter came we ordered as he asked for our drinks. Seemed like a nice guy but it was hard to appreciate it when you are sitting for almost 20 minutes with nothing. Had past with steak which was ok but not worth the price. My wife had a steak which she asked for medium well. It came to her extremely rare. In fact when the waiter came back to check on us he noticed it right away. He apologized and took it back to be fired up some more only to return it to her very dry. I had a piece myself and it was not good at all. Hate putting out bad reviews but this is what we experienced. It’s a shame because it looks like a nice restaurant but looks were definitely deceiving.

I tried this restaurant one more time yesterday and it continued to be a disappointment. It is hard to pick anything from the menu and my burger was burnt and without any taste.

I really wasn’t a big fan of my last experience at Hutch and Harris. We went in for the Big Eat and I ordered the salmon special. The whole point of the Big Eat is to try something new and get it for generally half the price. However Hutch and Harris went with half the price and half the size which was a disappointment. My salmon was cooked really well, but it was also a really small piece. It came with an orange marmalade type sauce which was interesting, but there was no real sauce on the fettuccine so it just tasted quite plain. I would not order this dish again. I have been in a few other times and their mac and cheese with fried chicken is pretty good as well as some of their salads. Overall an okay spot, but not my first pick downtown.

I went here last night with some friends of mine for dinner. It definitely did not disappoint! The area has a lot of space so it doesn’t feel like you are cramped in the restaurant. The have two sections, a sit down area, and a bar with a sit down area. Me and my friends went to the bar, and ate there. The waitress there was this Caucasian lady with dark black hair, kind of feisty, but it was entertaining to say the least lol. She was the only female bartender there, but the rest of the guys were really cool! One guy had a bald head, and a full beard was really nice; he always refilled our beers at our request in a fast paced manner. H&H wasn’t super loud either so I could actually use my inside voice when talking to my friends which was nice. The food here was really, really good! I got the Southside Burger which was well cooked and I also made it a double burger since I was so hungry! It came with jalapeños, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and my favorite, which was their homemade pimento cheese with was so hot that it was bubbling on my burger! It really added a new dimension in terms of the flavor of the burger I asked for ketchup, mustard, and mayo and the bartenders got it for me immediately. I also had a couple of Sierra Nevada Tropical Pale Ales which I recommend as they were really good to wash that burger down! My burger also came with my choice of a side, and I got sweet potato fries which was delicious!!! It was really good with some ranch dressing, and I would definitely get them again! Overall, I definitely plan on coming back here! It’s awesome!

Love this place! Especially the wonderful bar tender Leanne. We have been a handful of times and never been let down. Halloween was an absolute blast, and my spicy margaritas really hit the spot. We made numerous friends that night :) the crab dip was SO delicious, I was even called out for scrapping the bottom of the bowl. See yall soon :)!

What an interesting restaurant located right on the strip in downtown Winston Salem. They had a lot of great options, but I chose to go to their specials menu for the night. I had a steak with fried oysters, vegetables and mashed potatoes. I ordered the steak rare and it was perfectly cooked and delicious, as was everything else on the plate. The prices are very affordable, given what’s being cooked and the location. Definitely will return.

Was in Winston-Salem for the National Black Theatre Festival and I stopped by this restaurant twice… Both times, the service was great and the food was good. I would definitely recommend it and the prices are fairly reasonable… On one occassion had a sandwich and the next some chicken wings… Had heard great things about the Chicken bisque and while it didn’t blow me away, it was good…

Let start with some positives. I went here after the wine festival a few weeks ago with friends that had reservations I was along for the ride and not my first choice, usually not my top 10 and I live downtown. We moved reservations up and they were very accommodating. Sat down greeted with a smile and here is where it got loose. Our server lacked some knowledge of the menu, although very nice, he just wasn’t sharp with it. Maybe he was new. But I’m giving 3 stars for other reasons, really the server was fine and made everything right that went wrong with our food, so points for that. Side note: A while back they remodeled and were closed for quite sometime. After the remodel, I went back and to me it looked the same and not sure why it took so long. Still looked a little dingy and nothing that popped to get me excited, just eh, especially after a «remodel.» Food: The food is fine, nothing special about it really. Nothing that said to me HH is my first choice. So first thing I ask, where are the oysters from? That was my first mistake. He said, «not sure I can check, but they are in a can.» I didn’t hear him say that, but others at my table did. So he came back and said they are from the gulf and I asked if they were in a can? He said, «no they are in a bucket.» Oyster in a bucket??? What in the world is going on??? You don’t do that ever. So I’m already halfway appalled and lost my appetite in the first 5 minutes of sitting down. I love oysters and I will never in life have one out of some bucket. Who does that? My friend ordered a medium rare steak, it came out well done. However, the server got it back and they made it on the fly, so that was cool. I ordered the cheesesteak and again it wasn’t bad but wasn’t anything special. Another friend ordered mash potatoes instead of the pasta in his main entrée and well the cooks didn’t listen to that at all, but the server fixed it and made it right. I’m sure I saw the server write down everything correctly so that tells me the cooks wanted a free meal or didn’t pay attention, either way it was HH’s money down the garbage not mine. For a cheaper quick meal HH would be the place, but if you are looking to be WOW’d by food, you will be disappointed. The value for what is offered would also be rated a 3. Maybe it’s just me, but time and time again I’m getting more and more disappointed with the quality of food in Winston, the lack of service, the oysters in buckets sitting in who knows what, the attention to detail, and the overall customer experience is just going down hill. I mean half the food trucks are better than most of these restaurants here. What is happening people of Winston this is a travesty! I’ve given 5 stars in the past, but this is far from 5. And always remember, every place starts at a 5 with me, it’s the business’ responsibility to maintain that experience.

This is one of my favorite downtown restaurants with reasonable prices. I got the salmon sandwich which had too strong of a goat cheese flavor and maybe would of been better if it came in something other than pita bread. I did enjoy the spinach side dish which had some olives in it. Husband got the Philly cheesesteak with sweet potato fries. I love the atmosphere here and they have a nice outdoor seating area that is surrounded by pretty potted flowers.

I just realized I hadn’t written a review for this place but here it goes. We were thinking about where we were going to go for the entire day until I started fantasizing about a really delicious sandwich. My lady and I came finally decided to go to Hutch and Harris. On that Friday night we sat at the end table on the sidewalk; it was busy but we only waited a few minutes for the table. I read through the menu and landed on their El Kentucky sandwich. As I read the description I had flashes of those zoomed in sandwich commercial-like thoughts crossed my mind. I was so ready for this sandwich. By the time it got to the table — it took a little longer because it was a Friday night, but it wasn’t unreasonable — I was pretty confident my expectations weren’t going to be met; I was after-all fantasizing about this sandwich all day. Boy, was I wrong — this sandwich was INCREDIBLE. I’m sure it’s terrible for you, but it was spectacularly delicious and met every wayward expectation that I had! A side note: The arts school is in the area and while we sat outside a two piece band started playing music across the street. Another passerby joined the group making it a trio. A car stopped at the stoplight on our side of the intersection and asked how long the trio planned on being there and he parked and joined in! So here we were getting a free four-piece concert!

I had the ranch steak and the white chicken chili. It was all pretty good except my white chicken chili was more like pink chicken chili. It was delicious but almost all of the chicken was pink. I wanted to eat it, but I didn’t want to risk getting sick from it. There wasn’t anything too exciting about this place so I’m not exactly sure if I’ll be returning.

We had a large group come to this downtown restaurant. They had a nice private room that could probably seat about 20 people, though we had closer to 12ish. I had their dinner special plate of ribs that came with sauteed vegetables and fried potato wedges. The entire plate was great and was $ 15. The ribs were sweet and tender, falling off of the bone — which I needed because it was a business meeting and for some reason, I ordered ribs like an idiot. The vegetables were kind of hidden by all of the wedges and ribs but were a nice addition to help me pretend I was eating a healthy side item. My wife got the El Kentucky which is a fried chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries. It was really good but it was a little unruly as a sandwich. I would suggest that they turn the fried chicken into a dinner plate instead of hiding it behind sandwich fixins. Overall, it was a great meal for a reasonable price.

Service is always excellent. Food is good(not great) but the consistency in quality and serve is why I’ve been here so many times. Tip: 4 start experience if you get a booth, 3 star because of their chairs.

Hutch and Harris is a go to in Winston-Salem. It’s a good place to take guests when they come into town. It’s located on Fourth Street and has a unique yet elegant atmosphere. There also isn’t usually a wait like there is at so many other restaurants in Winston. Even for Brunch on Sundays you can normally get seated pretty quickly. Sunday Brunch is my favorite time to go to Hutch and Harris. They have very good brunch options, mimosas, and they also normally have a gentleman playing some relaxing music towards the front of the restaurant. My go to Brunch item is the Chicken and Waffles. It’s a little bit of a different take on the classic southern dish. They top it off with sage gravy. What makes this dish is their chicken. The breading on this is full of flavor and a nice mix of herbs and spices. Also, with every brunch you get complementary biscuits and muffins. For their meals other than Brunch, Hutch and Harris has a good selection of options. My favorite of all of their dinner items is the El Kentucky Sandwich. The El Kentucky has fried chicken topped with pepper-jack cheese, bacon, and pico de gallo. Their fried chicken here is awesome and is dipped in a buttermilk batter that gives it a sweet flavor. They then add spices to balance out that sweetness. I always get the sweet potato fries for my side. They are normally good and crispy. The burgers here are slightly above average, but I think there are better places in Winston to get a burger. I would honestly suggest sticking with the Brunch or the El Kentucky. That’s been my experience. They also have a pretty good selection of beers on tap. Most Craft beer fans can find something that they would like. The atmosphere here is classy and has some local flare as well. They have a vintage Art-o-mat cigarette dispenser located at the front, which is kind of a cool nod to Winston’s history. The patio outside is a great option for the warmer months. It is a great place to do some people watching on Fourth. The service here is always friendly and every server I have had here is helpful and personable. They are sometimes a little on the slow side, but this seems to be a trend in Winston restaurants. Hutch and Harris is a great place to go for Sunday Brunch with a shorter wait and good food. It’s also a nice place to grab a drink on a warm night and sit out on the front patio. Hutch and Harris has good food, good service, and a nice atmosphere. I would recommend giving this place a try if you’re in downtown Winston.

Trying to find dinner in Winston on a Saturday night without a long wait proved to be quite a challenge, so Hutch and Harris won out by virtue of having seats open at the bar. The meal that followed made out stumbling in here out of desperation a stroke of good fortune, but there were still a few nagging inconsistencies that would preempt a glowing recommendation. Conveniently located at the corner of Fourth and Spruce, Hutch and Harris offers an inviting atmosphere: classy without being stuffy and comfortable without feeling cheap. Despite a full house and a college football game on TV at the bar, the noise level never rose to the point of agitation. The menu here is eclectic bordering on schizophrenic. Influences include Asian(Siracha Stirfry Salad), Southern(Shrimp and Grits, Kentucky Fried Chicken), Cajun(a shrimp/crawfish/chicken platter) and more. This makes for some wonderful variety; however, it also makes it hard to pin down H & H’s culinary identity. During our visit, my companion and I opted to sample some soups and split an order of nachos. The nachos featured the standard accoutrements(cheese, pico de gallo, sour cream) elevated considerably by tender marinated pork. Among the soups, the crab bisque was creamy with excellent flavor. Unfortunately, it also contained a few bits of shell. The white bean chicken chili was hearty and satisfying, but the flavor profile didn’t really fit that of a chili(I found myself missing the tomato). Some savory, crumbly jalapeño cornbread made for a welcome addition. Given the location, pricing at Hutch and Harris could be a lot steeper. Our soups came out to $ 4 apiece, and our app was $ 10. Sandwiches(with a side) start at $ 9 and entrees are mostly in the teens. In terms of service, the bartenders on duty were great — fast, friendly attentive, and knowledgeable — but the kitchen certainly could be swifter. All told, Hutch and Harris gave us a good meal and a good evening when one was needed. It has a few shortcomings, but it also has enough going for it to merit a return visit.

Hutch and Harris is always a great place to go and have dinner! I met a friend here last week, and we really enjoyed our experience. It was a beautiful night, so we sat outside, which I highly recommend. We both ordered a glass of wine. Our meals came quickly, and they were both amazing. We actually both ordered the salmon, and I suggest you do the same! The salmon had a sweet, crunchy crust. It was a nice contrast to the bed of fettuccine it sat upon. The mixed vegetables were seasoned well. Overall, it was a great meal! You should check out Hutch and Harris!
