How did we ever survive in a world where you had to call people on the phone and talk to them in order to book a hotel room? God bless the world wide webs. I booked my room online super last minute. Why? Well, I forgot I needed a place to stay for my work trip. It was quick, easy, and painless. I arrived mid-afternoon on a Thursday and pulled up to the front door. The two desk attendants were really nice and helpful. Parking is free and located across the street in a small parking deck. There’s a side door to the hotel that you can access with your room key. My room was clean and spacious. I noticed another review complaining about the wifi. I didn’t have a problem with it, I think it actually was better than mine here at home. *Shakes fist at Time Warner Cable* Guests, Winston Salem does have Über. There are also several delivery options for food. I went Burke Street Pizza for my late night dinner. I didn’t partake in breakfast the next AM, but I did go browse the spread. It was pretty much your standard hotel continental type breakfast. Okay, I lied. I did snag one piece of bacon. I’m so weak. I would definitely stay here again. It’s a great location and reasonably priced.

I booked this hotel last minute on a routine trip to Winston Salem. This is somewhat a new hotel as it used to be the Wyndham until May 2015. Several changes and upgrades have been made in which I would deem an upgrade. This hotel offers free parking, wifi, breakfast, and smiles. Our front desk attendants for the night Bennel and Brian went over and above to make sure my family and I were taken care of. A little mix up with my room was quickly corrected and I asked for a rollable crib and it was delivered super quick with bedding and a pillow. Good customer service is hard to find but not here. Room was clean and even the sofa bed was comfortable. I made the right decision with this hotel and would certainly recommend.

In short, this is a nice alternative to certain other mid-priced hotels, e.g., Holiday Inn Express. The positives: — Nicely taken care off and looks good. Updated. — Good location. — No extra charge for parking(but see below). — Nice staff at the desk at check-in. The not-so-positives: — You’ll be parking across the street in a small garage. The spaces are WAY, WAY too tight. I won’t be surprised if I see our vehicle damaged when I go retrieve it in an hour or so. — If you are a tea drinker you’ll find the containers which hold your water were once used for coffee and your tea will be undrinkable. — Breakfast is OK, but not so healthy. You won’t find whole wheat english muffins or bagels, for example. — The wi-fi is quite lame. 1.9 up/down was the speed with decent latency. However, the system prohibits the use of your DNS and one logs on with name and room number — perfect so the management knows WHO is doing exactly WHAT on the internet. Your name can be associated with your MAC address(es) and activity. If you use a 3rd party DNS provider for security or performance reasons you won’t be using it here. However, VPN protocols LL2P and PPTP seems to be allowed OK. On the other hand, MANY ports are blocked — even the high ones for reasons known only to Marriott. Bottom line: The wi-fi is very much«tightened down» so as to restrict reasonable use and allow maximum surveillance.
