Driving by on our way to Albequerque. We are so glad we stopped here. Everything we ordered was delicious. The chips and salsa were to die for. The sopapillas were soft as pillows. Green chili sauce tasted like green chilies instead of tomatillo. If come back this way, we’ll eat here again.

I had the fish and oh my gosh was it nasty, I had to come home and throw up plus it was way too noisy in there. They need better quality food and someone throw out that fish, plus any place that makes you sick, avoid it. I don’t know why someone people like this place … Gross.

The home of the meanest waitress in Winslow. The food was marginal. Chili Colorado was just plain bad. Enchiladas were greasy and tasted bad just like the cheese crisp. Don’t eat here. Yes locals were ordering take out, why I don’t know.

Stopped by here on our way to Albuquerque. It was recommended by a tour guide at meteor crater who lives there. After checking the reviews on Unilocal and then walking in, however, I was very nervous. Definitely a hole in the wall restaurant. Thankfully, we were pleasantly surprised! My husband got the shredded beef enchiladas with green chilies and they were delicious! I got the tostadas and added ground beef for a dollar. I thought I would need sour cream or guacamole too but they were delicious as they were. My sons got the Chimichanga and the Sour Cream enchiladas. My parents got the taco salad and the Shredded Beef enchiladas with red chiles. Everything was delicious and green or red, neither are spicy. The salsa was very good but too spicy for me. I ate it but ate several chips in between a chip with salsa. My husband loves spicy so he couldn’t get enough of it. It’s also perfect to add to your rice or anything to spice it up. First time having sopapillas and they were very good. We will definitely go back if we are ever passing through again!

Ordered the special which was two tacos, enchilada, with beans and rice. Had combo of red and green chile. Couldn’t find the enchilada, the tacos were deep fried. The green chile was good. Everything was so greasy, could only eat half. The service was the only thing good.

My husband and I had a burritos, one green and one red. Both were very good especially for the price. I would definitely go back if I was ever in the area again!

The food at this restaurant is pretty good, but the prices aren’t that wonderful. They could definitely be lowered. The bathroom is very tiny and not all that sanitary most of the time. Customer service simply depends on who is working at the time.

Like David K we stayed at the La Posada(highly recommended) and ate at the Brown Mug. We got our food to go and had Chicken Taco Combo and the ‘Red’ Navajo Taco. We liked them both a lot, though the food is a bit spicy(good for me, not so much so for my wife). The hot sauce is amongst the best I have ever had. Yes the food is a bit greasy, but what does one expect when they order fried tacos and beans? David K you missed a great opportunity!

Well first thing I always look for is ‘do the locals ’ eat there. I can tell you that we were the only non-locals. So that’s a good start. Got the special. Tacos, enchilada rice and retried beans. Nice salsa and chips. Service was good and friendly. Liked it!!! Don’t expect it to be like a chain restaurant. It’s a Bar/Diner. Stay away if you’re used to upscale. This is local diner fare. Liked it a lot!!!

Brown Mug is a great little find in a very small town. I am not sure what is in Winslow, but I suspect that many of the people eating in this town are people passing by on the 40. Brown Mug is VERY inexpensive, so I was doubtful that the food would be very good, but was pleasantly surprised. For something like $ 12 we had 2 bowls of tasty chips and salsa, 2 enchiladas, and a massive chimachanga made to order. We substituted green for red sauce, had other customizations and they came out perfect. While ordering, the server would make suggestions such as «try xxx instead of yyy, it is the same but also has onions so you get a better deal». It’s nice to have staff actively looking out for your interests. Not much in terms of Ambiance. It reminds me of all the small-town cafes you see in movies. Their claim to fame seems to be that Harrison Ford once ate there. They even have a sign up on the booth he sat in. Anyway, if you are just passing through and are willing to drive a little bit further than the fast food near the highway, you will get a good cheap meal at the Brown Mug Café.

I am a Californian and good Mexican food is something I crave everywhere I go. I was a little hesitant about this place after reading some of the Unilocal reviews. After enjoying a wonderful stay and meal at La Posada the night before I didn’t want to ruin our buzz. We were greeted right away and the locals that filled the place at lunch time didn’t raise an eyebrow at my husband’s Hawaiian shirt. They have to be used to all the baby boomers standing on the corner in Winslow Arizona. I relaxed after tasting their spicy salsa, and fresh chips, with loads more salsa provided since my husband and I are heavy users. I enjoyed their refried beans, enchiladas, and crispy tacos. A good classic greasy spoon with tasty ample portions.

This place was awesome! We happened to be in the area after seeing the painted desert. The portions are enormous and well worth the money. The employees at this family run restaurant are very nice. We have to pass through Winslow to go back to PA. We plan to make a special stop to eat there again because the food was that good. We highly recommend.

Came into Windslow to see the«Corner» and went to Laposiada to get a bite to eat. After a day of hiking two of our group of seven had sleevless shirts. After being politely asked to put on a shirt(provided by them) we went across the street to what looked like a dive from the outside. Walked into the Brown Mug and was greeted with a friendly smile and seated in two booths. Got chips and amazing salso as well as water before we were all seated. Everyone’s dish was really really good. Tacos were killer, sampler platter was very good and fajitas were the best we tasted outside of Texas. I asked the waiter what the best dish in the house was and he picked a fajita meat dish with onions, peppers and jalapeño’s. OMG, this was such a wild dish. Anyhow, service was great, and if I was to ever be in Windslow, I would make the Brown Mug Café a stop.

Can’t comment on the food, only the initial greeting. Had just checked into La Posada Hotel across the street and wanted a quick meal after a long drive. Brown Mug closes at 9 pm(that day); we stepped inside at 8:50 pm expecting we’d still get service. Incorrect assumption. No greeting when we walked in; not clear if there was hostess service; had to wander a bit to find an employee. When told him we wanted a table, he said«we’re closing». That’s it. It was prior to their posted closing time, but«we’re closing»; no apology; no further comment. We stayed at La Posada a few days, but pointedly did not return to Brown Mug.

If you are ever randomly in this small town as we were stop in for some yummy fajitas. We ended up here because we were looking for a different restaurant which we couldn’t find. We were not disappointed. The menu is small and simple, the locals seemed to like the place which makes it good enough for me.

I don’t know. The placed seemed a little dirty and the food was pretty greasy. One member of our party was pretty happy with his steak and potatoes though. The tacos were just a little too greasy, but I’m used to Tex Mex. No one liked the iced tea. On the other hand, Harrison Ford apparently ate here once…

Favorite place to go to when I’m home… I’ve been coming here since high school. Primarily I get the tacos, either chicken or beef. The beef tacos are like thin hamburger patties, with tomato, lettuce and finely shredded cheese. Given it’s not your«conventional» taco but I still like the greasiness after each bite. To rid of some grease I would hold the taco at an angle and let it drip to rid of the excess, I have that much patience for this taco. As for chicken tacos I go for the soft corn tortilla option, much«lighter» as compared to the beef, but more fulfilling. Each comes with beans and rice. Other fares I have tried are the tostadas, chili cheese fries, special burrito, and cheese crisp. I like them all. Sopapillas are decent too. Chips and salsa are served at every seating too, I love the salsa. The décor of the place is rustic and old, nothing fancy shmancy, but I don’t care. If you want that, then go across the street. Many of the locals like this place, and seems as if the«out-of-towners» expect something else. overall, my favorite place to eat ever.

This is an old school hole in the wall. Don’t come here expecting some sterile chain or even the slightest bit of conceived ambience. There is an old coin operated pay phone on the wall that locals call in on to order take out! The place is about 75 years old and was likely last remodeled about 40 years ago. The booth seats are mainly made of duct tape. We didn’t come loking for flair, we wanted old style gringo-mex. That’s exactly what they have. Grandma greeted us and I suspect grandpa was doing the cooking. We didn’t sit at the Harrison Ford table(There’s a relatively recent picture of him eating here) . The refried beans were great, my daughter(a bean freak) rated them in her all time top three. I got the«special» burrito, but the combo plates looked better. This will be a must-do for us when we pass through Winslow and don’t want to pay the big bucks for La Posada.

This place has never disappointed me. I starting coming here as a kid with my family, continued to do so growing up and still visit when I come back into town. It is located along Route 66 right across the La Pasada. The place is small but makes ya feel comfortable. Maybe it’s the olé style café chairs and decorations. For about 10 years now I been ordering the same thing, Green Special Burrito with a Taco on the side. The Special Burritos are just like the name states, Special. They are also a very decent size and filling. I have not ate here in months but it is on my to do list once I return to visit again.
