This use to be my favorite go to place. Not any more. The sisters that own it are very nice but the rest of the staff. Meh– not worth it. The pastries are fantastic but the price is beyond control. I use to love to pop in but they never had what I wanted. I ordered a birthday cake it was great, then another super ultra dry. The third one because I believe in chances that did me in. They will accommodate food allergies which is great. To bad there so expensive now and they hire people with poor attitudes.

Ordered the same amazing organic lemon cake with raspberry filling for another of my grandson’s First Communion celebrations. Can’t say enough about how wonderful it was! Thank you, Vanilla Sugar!

Service is very slow. Stopped in 10 minutes before my train and the lady at the counter took 7 minutes with the person in front of me, then said«be right back». Needless to say I left to make my train and will never know if what they serve is any good!

like their cookies and bars better than their cakes. Their buttercream is to die for though. Wish they had a list in store of all the cake flavor and what they are(rather than just names) as it would make it easier to order. Lovely atmosphere for coffee with a friend too.

This bakery is wonderful! My friend and I wandered in here and found the owners to be very customer service focused and the selection of cupcakes and other treats excellent. We purchased a variety of cupcakes that were delicious. I purchased the coconut ones which were the absolute best cupcakes I ever had. They were made with lots of real coconut on top with a soft vanilla cake on the bottom. This bakery is a gem!

My favorite bakery of all time. Since moving to the area we were getting our cakes from the grocery stores, but kept looking for a good bakery. For my daughter’s 16th birthda, she wanted something different and wanted cupcakes. My wife and I happened to be nearby and looked up a bakery and they came up. Tried a few items and have been hooked since. Their cupcakes are amazing, cookie bars and cookie sandwiches are to die for. Definitely worth the drive from anywhere.

Cute bakery. Located near the hospital in what I would guess is a great location. My husband and I went prior to going to Gnarly Knots. I got a «donut muffin» and saved it for the next day. because obviously Gnarly Knots is way more than enough. My husband got a peanut butter cookie dough cupcake and thoroughly enjoyed it. The ordering process could use some work. No definite area for ordering/picking up. Of course, it could be the same place. just not sure. The décor is cute and would be great for a kid’s birthday.

OMG!!! This place is heaven! Everything is so incredibly delicious. I have to force myself not to go there because I love their pastries. If you have a sweet tooth and you want a pastry I strongly suggest driving there. No matter where you are it’s worth the drive! Now that I’m thinking about them I’m tempted to jump in my car to go and get an apple pie bar!

You won’t go wrong here! From the cinnamon rolls, cupcakes and pies, everything has been delicious. They made my daughters birthday cake last year as well. The owners are so friendly and it’s such a cute atmosphere. This is my go to bakery and they have not let me down.

We have frequented this bakery for their individual treats such as cupcakes(wedding cake-yum!) and cookies previously, but just ordered a cake for my daughter’s 1st birthday for this past weekend. I was late in ordering it… Wednesday for Saturday… but they were extremely accommodating and willing to try the design I sent them from a picture I found on Pinterest. We chose a 2 tier cake with a vanilla top(for my daughter’s smash cake) and raspberry vanilla buttercream bottom. Pink icing and an adorable giraffe with my daughter’s name on the side… Vanilla Sugar Bakery delivered perfection! Matched the picture perfectly and was totally delicious!!! It was $ 129 which they said would feed 20 – 25 people. Honestly, would have probably fed 30 or more. Great service and fantastic tasting(and looking) cakes… highly recommend.

Second impression, better than the first. There are still some things about the place that are unusual, but this time around I scored some hits on the menu. My wife and I tried a scone and a cinnamon roll. I also got a latte with skim milk. The latte was good. Still not as bold or rich as the original in Edgewater, but I’m willing to overlook it; coffee isn’t really their main thing here. On recommendation, I picked up the cinnamon roll. Let’s get the awkward out of the way first; there aren’t any plastic knives in the seated area to split a 5″ roll in half, and it’s borderline criminal to serve a cinnamon roll at room temperature. But there was the right amount of cinnamon-brown sugar on the inside, and the frosting itself was delicious. As for the bread, I’m not sure if it’s a good quick-bread cinnamon roll or a yeasted cinnamon roll lacking most of the complexity that yeast is supposed to offer. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Ah, but the hits. I traded with my wife for her almond-cherry scone. Killer frosting, killer cherry jam. The almond flavor permeated the scone and there were bits of cherry in the jam, which complemented the sweetness of the scone and frosting very well. Not something I’d usually get, and I would go out of my way to order a scone here. We also took a few cupcakes with us, and these have(so far) also been excellent. The M&M cupcake was almost cloyingly sweet but decently moist and flavorful. And the mint-chocolate cupcake had good chocolate flavor, also was not dry, and dialed back the sweetness on the buttercream frosting to make room for peppermint. Overall not a bad place to grab a baked good and coffee!

I wish I could give zero stars, alas I cannot. I sent them a picture which they promised they could recreate and it was an absolute disgrace. Not to mention, they emailed me an hour before 100 people showed up at my house for the party, saying oops sorry we made the wrong flavor. Norma was quite kind to me while I waited FOURTY-FIVEMINUTES because they weren’t done with my cake yet, so Norma I give you 5 stars for hospitality, Vanilla Sugar Bakery I give you 0. People told me I should have ordered the cake instead of trying to make it myself TALKABOUTEMBARRASSING. It was awful I cannot believe I paid for something that I could have made better myself.

Experience was terrible. Order a cake sent them a picture. Looked nothing like the picture. They had to redo. Which was an inconvenience right there. Still wasn’t 100% happy. For a cross to be 226 dollars I would expect it to an amazing cake. Filling was bearly there. very little strawberries and the cake was so dry. I actually couldn’t believe it. I emailed them and they gave be a ton of excuses. Pretty much saying I’m wrong and they did everything right. For there price the decorating and writing on cakes should me amazing. It was so sloppy. I don’t recommend. Marianos is better

There is no way you’re going to leave Vanilla Sugar unhappy. There is such a variety here that there is something for everyone. Cupcakes, muffins, scones, pie, brownies, cookies, macarons… the hard part is having restraint! I bought a Crème Brulee cheesecake bar and an Apple Pie bar, both $ 5 each, to bring home and share for dessert. The bars are generously sized and ideal for sharing(or not…). Both were amazing, I mean, crème brûlée and cheesecake are my favorite things, so to combine them is something that will capture my eyes, stomach, and heart. The Apple Pie bar was really good with lots of crumble and caramel drizzled on top. They also serve Metropolis coffee, which is a good pick me up in the middle of the day. The bakery is clean and spacious. I wish we had something like this close to the Naperville or Route 59 train stations. Vanilla Sugar is a hop, skip, and a jump over to the Winfield Metra. Seating is plentiful, I wouldn’t mind camping out on the wifi here.

Just to let you know, I’m craving a chocolate salted caramel cupcake as I type this right now! LOL I’ve been looking for a great cupcake, let alone a great bakery since we moved to Wheaton. I believe I found it, well, my husband did(thanks hubby)! He surprised me with a oatmeal chocolate bar(I believe) after giving birth to our second child Malea Rose. I didn’t care for it but I’ll give it one more chance. The winner for me are their cupcakes! He thought that the first cupcake I would like to try was the salted caramel cupcake and then the cheesecake cupcake… I loved the first one; so moist and flavorful, not cold, hard, and frozen like the other bakery I’ve been to(not naming any names LOL)! Since being out of the hospital, I tried the chocolate salted caramel cupcake and I’m now in love! The only complaint I would have is that there is way too much frosting for my liking and not enough salted caramel, but hey, that won’t stop me from trying and liking other things. I wish I knew about this place for my baby shower but I’ll be using them for my children’s birthdays, my birthday and anytime I just want to throw a party just to have an array of desserts to choose from… All in all, this place is amazing and I will at least try ALL of their flavor and other desserts they have to offer(Lord help me not to gain too much weight)!

You know that you can’t be in a bad mood when you A) walk into a room that’s painted bubble gum pink or B) when desserts are involved. Lucky for me, Vanilla Sugar has both which kept me on cloud 9 for the rest of the day. I came for the macarons but I was happy to see they also had coffee. I ordered a medium iced mocha and it was the best coffee I’ve had in awhile. There were only 2 flavors of macarons available(aww, sad) so I went for 2 of each– the princess and the salted caramel. Both were really tasty but the salted caramel was my favorite. I should also say that I normally hate salted caramel macarons because the flavor always tastes either way too sweet or way too salty. Theirs is the exception to the rule — it was completely perfect in every aspect. Being the nice wife that I am, I brought home the PBO cookie sandwich for my husband. I really had no idea what to get him and just picked the first thing that I thought might remotely interest him. I was actually hoping to pick something he hated so I could eat it later, but alas, he loved it. It tasted exactly like the Peanut Butter Sandwich Girl Scout cookies. It was really moist and flavorful. I hope to get back here soon and try more sweets. There were so many other things that caught my eye!

Last week my work BFF brought me some goodies from Vanilla Sugar Bakery for my birthday. She knows me all too well because when I opened the adorable box it was full of brownies and M&M cookies. It pained me a bit to share them with my coworkers(just kidding… kinda) but I did. I kept one of each for myself though so I could properly give my two cents. You MUST get their brownie. It’s definitely top three brownies I’ve ever had. It was so fudgy, rich and thick, each bite getting better than the last. My work BFF said when her hubby picked up the goods from the bakery they were warm straight from the oven. I’m so envious of his timing and wish I could have had one fresh & toasty out the oven! I could take or leave their M&M cookies. They are huge with just a few M&Ms on them. They had good flavor but are cooked very thin so they end up being quite hard & crunchy. Just a personal preference type of thing but I like my cookies soft & chewy as opposed to hard & crunchy.
