I walked by today and this place was closed, says it will reopen soon as a Sushi bar.

Cute, small bakery. I have only been here once, but I would return. It relieved me that I actually had to wait for them to make my Greek salad, because I knew it was fresh. The service was friendly and welcoming, and the prices were reasonable. This is a great place to grab a quick but healthy bite at.

I stopped in yesterday, just checking out downtown Wheaton with my daughter. We purchased a cupcake, which looked pretty good in the case. We were going to share it on the way home. In the car, I started to peel the paper off the cake, but it was stuck pretty good because the cupcake was pretty stale, almost hard! The frosting was pretty gross, too – hard as butter. Basically, the thing was inedible and I paid $ 2 for a pretty standard, «could have made it better myself at home» cupcake. Very disappointing. I was going to go back and and ask for a refund, but it wasn’t worth it. Based on this visit, I say skip it and if you have sweet tooth in downtown Wheaton, go to the ice cream/chocolate shop instead.

Husband and I tried a new place today. We were trying to grab breakfast before an appointment and neither of us can stomach drive thru breakfast options. We decided to see what downtown Wheaton had to offer, as it was near our appointment. By chance we stumbled across Skylight Bakery Café. We were a little disappointed that there were no breakfast options, so we both went with panini sandwiches. Husband ordered a BLT and I ordered a ham and cheese. We both felt that for the price the sandwiches were kind of small. There wasn’t much to them, not a lot of filling and we both felt that they had a weird after taste. Maybe the oil used to keep the bread from sticking to the panini pan? We couldn’t figure it out, but very unpleasant. The service was really slow, but they were so friendly so it is hard to really fault them on that. If we had not been in a rush we would have eaten in but we took it to go due to time constraints. Honestly, even though we did not love the food, we will try it again to see how other menu items stack up. I don’t think we will go out of our way to eat there, but if we stumble across it again I would give it another shot.

If you have the word«bakery» in your name, you should actually bake, on site preferably. Also, you should open before 8:00. Stopped in at 10:00 on Saturday. They had one sad, little plate of cinnamon rolls that were obviously brought in. They were also out of breakfast panini.

Stopped here at random during a bike ride on the Prairie Path and was very pleasantly surprised. We had the warm roast beef on a pretzel roll, and the Cajun turkey panini, both of which were excellent — toasted just right and with generous helpings of meat. The owner made the sandwiches to order — it’s not like Panera where sandwiches are made way ahead of time and refrigerated — good food takes a little time. There was quite a varied selection of pastries and cupcakes; my wife said her mini éclair was very good. When we mentioned we would be sharing the sandwiches, he even put one half of each sandwich on the plates. It is that attention to detail that made this such a nice meal. If you go to Wheaton, definitely check this place out — when people say there is a need for quality local restaurants to combat the Subways and Chipotles of the world, this is exactly the kind of great place that needs our support.

Menu is small, service is slow, and the food is decent. My family and I came here on a Saturday morning and we each ordered a breakfast panini. Paninis have meat(choose ham or bacon), vegetable(choose 1 of 3 choices), and cheese(choose 1of 2 choices). The portions were generous, and the sandwich was good, but with so many other quality brunch locations in Wheaton, it’s hard to say when(or if) I’ll return here.

The other Unilocalers on here complaining about no skylight make me laugh. It’s in downtown Wheaton… The place doesn’t always have to adhere to the name, especially with its location. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit. I went midday on a Monday. In my opinion, the place was nicely decorated and the ambiance was pleasant. The workers there seemed happy and eager to help me out and take my order. Both my date and I ordered sandwiches, and I had the classic ham and cheese. I also went in with a Livingsocial promotion, and the lady who took my order really helped me to make the most out of the value, letting me know how much more I had to spend. I really appreciated it and ordered two scones additionally. Our food came, and my sandwich was delicious! I ordered the side salad instead of the chips and that was great too. It was very filling. The scones(chocolate chip & cranberry) were awesome as well! They seemed a little stale and hard, but it was also in the middle of the day which I could live with :) Overall, it’s a nice quiet little place right next door to Starbucks(I’m sure the coffee tastes better at Skylight, also). I was very happy with everything about my visit. I plan on returning in the future.

They were out of soup at noon! I met a friend here and the menu is VERY limited, so I was thinking about the soup, but they were out of it. There were about 4 breakfast options, 4 sandwich options and a salad. I decided to try the quiche. I thought it would be fresh, but she just picked up one that was on display and was going to put it on a plate and hand it to me. I told her I would like it warm, but I should have changed my mind then. It just wasn’t good. It was all dried out and that was all I got with the meal besides coffee. My friend had a sandwich which was big and it came with some chips and a pickle. The dessert treats looked good, but after that stale quiche, I wasn’t up for it. I agree with the other Unilocalers on the attitude of the staff. They seemed to want to be somewhere else. We waited and waited and waited for our food. The inside of this place is a bit stark and it could use some homey touches. It does look nice from the sidewalk. There is no other bakery in downtown Wheaton, so if they put some of those yummy treats in the window I bet they would get a bit more traffic!

Service is slllllllooooooooowww. Menu is limited. Décor is plain. This place seems like a half realized attempt at a gourmet deli. There is potential but they need some professional help fast or they won’t be here long. Some suggestions for the owners: –Dress the walls up a bit. Especially in the kitchen area which is stark and industrial. –Train your people to move swiftly, be friendly and share your vision. The people I dealt with clearly wanted to be somewhere else. –Expand the menu. It’s a deli! The options are limitless! Come up with some cool sandwiches and soups with cool names and give your menu some personality. –Good job bringing in some local artisan products to sell. Get more. –Finally, where’s the skylight? I have more ideas, but I’ll stop myself there. You have a great opportunity and we need a quality deli in downtown Wheaton. Good luck!

Was roaming around downtown Wheaton on a Sunday morning when we found this cute little bakery. Lots of interesting looking pastries in the case. We decided to have the strawberry crêpe – fresh crêpe batter and fresh strawberries made it very yummy. They had bread available from breadsmith in Lombard – I assume they must have some sort of connection. The place has a lot of potential — but be prepared to wait a little since everything is made to order. Overall tasty and a nice quaint place.

Some tasty looking baked goods(scones, muffins with a lot of streusel, eclairs, cookie bars) and sandwiches, mostly panini. I got a margherita panini and asked them not to press it, which caused some confusion. They agreed to just melt it a little bit. Sandwiches come with chips or salad; the salad is good lettuce, not the iceberg stuff, and the tomatoes actually tasted tomato-y(disclaimer: it was July). The second half of the sandwich wasn’t that great cold later in the day, but if you’re just in for lunch, go for it. You even get real cutlery and a washable plate as opposed to plastic, and table service. I also got a lemon tart, which was a bit pricey($ 5; two servings if you have self-control). A bit too sweet for my taste. Service was friendly.

Roast beef + pretzel bread = true love. Food took a while to come, but once it arrived it was pure deliciousness. Seriously, I want to go back. This place has totally redeemed itself!

Upon entering, we were greeted by an uninspired interior(no skylight in sight!), with piles of un-bussed used dishes just laying about everywhere one looked. We were struck by the apparent value on the min-tartes. Wanting to try a bit of each, I sauntered to the counter and ordered a «sourdough cheddar roll» and a «french-silk mini-tart.» The harried looking woman behind the counter stared at me for a minute, then fumbled the cheddar roll as she tried to pick it up with a square of tissue, and I cringed as her finger grazed the surface. Behind her, in an unkempt work area, what appeared to be a high-school girl was breaking off wedges of a frozen un-baked scone and lobbing them in to the oven. Neither smiled, greeted, or appeared even slightly interested in being there. Suddenly the roll-fumbler disappeared in to the back. I considered walking out since no explanation was offered for her vanishing. When she finally reappeared, carrying a to-go box, I wisely modified my order to exclude the french-silk tart. She had an enormous amount of trouble operating the register, and finally told me the wrong amount, over-charging by 25 cents from the tag in the display. I decided to let it slide, paid and we darted for the door. Once outside, we split the accursed roll — it was dry, stiff, very poor quality dough, not sour at all, with bad bland cheddar inside. Neither of us could bear to finish our half and grimly tossed the stiff remains into the nearest rubbish bin. NEVERAGAIN.
