It has been a long time but I am now just getting to this review. I would concur with the other Unilocalers… avoid using this company! They are unprofessional and«fast talkers». They claimed they couldn’t move some items because they were glass-even though this was not discussed prior. The glass they were speaking of were on the doors for a CD stand-not a problem, we moved those two small items ourselves. Luckily my family is thorough because when they tried to quickly have us sign off that everything was unloaded from the truck, my mother immediately noticed my Xbox was not there. When they went to double check they«found» this one item that was left by «accident» on the truck. Really? Lesson learned, pack everything in unmarked boxes. Avoid the extra hassle on top of already having to move and hire someone else… they are so not worth it!

The previous reviews could not be more accurate. I wish that I had checked Unilocal sooner. For the sake of your time, money, and sanity, choose another moving company. Dawn Moving is an unethical, poorly managed business that fraudulently displays BBB accreditation. Why this has not been legally taken down is beyond my comprehension. I contracted Dawn Moving for a simple one-bedroom move between Rosslyn and Crystal City. The office assured me that they could meet the six hour moving window I had secured(through cash deposits) with both my previous and current Apartment buildings. When their team was scheduled to arrive, I received a call stating that they would be two hours late, which ended up being five. After that point, both the dispatchers office and the crew ignored my numerous calls. When the movers finally arrived, they were in a sketchy, unmarked truck with melted snow pooled inside the cargo container. The crew was hardworking enough, not considering the damaged furniture which they never followed up to repair. Because they were five hours late, my previous building kept my refundable $ 250 deposit for moving outside the allotted time. I can’t get that money back, but if this review discourages anyone else from making the same mistake, that is solace enough.

If we could give less than one star, we would. In short, do not use these movers. Keeping looking, no matter how cheap they appear to be. I literally told them to leave my house.

PLEASEREADTHISBEFOREHIRINGTHEM! I was in contact with them on the phone and they seemed kind of odd, but I brushed it off when they sent me my estimate and it was considerably cheaper than anything else I had seen. When they sent me the confirmation, I noticed that they put down that I needed 3 guys, when I only asked for 2. I wrote to them and told them everything looked good, except I did not need three guys, only 2. I received no reply. The day of the move the team showed up – 3 guys, to my despair – and they were OK… although they were kind of slow and they scratched my wall and left a trail of trash from the elevator to the garage. When it was time to pay, they charged me about $ 200 more than the initial estimate, $ 507. The guy explained that it was because they had brought a third guy, and I had misunderstood the rate(I thought it was just $ 80 per hour, he said it was $ 80 per hour per person). I showed him my estimate and he just stared at me like, «sorry.» FINE, I thought, I’ll pay up and then check with the company on Monday to see what gives. I was distracted and I didn’t check the receipt or anything. I know, I’m an idiot, but that is not the point of this review. On Monday, I actually received a call from«customer service” – notice the quotes, as they are there for a reason. The lady on the phone wanted to check how much I had paid for my services. I was immediately skeptical – what kind of company doesn’t keep track of these things? She explained that when customers pay cash, they always check to see that the guys didn’t overcharge and take something for themselves… OK, wtf, what kind of people do you hire there at Dawn Moving? I got defensive, because it became evident to me that something was wrong, and she was being cagey. They assured me that this was routine, but I thought the whole thing was sketchy. It was by far the worst customer service experience I’ve had in my life. The lady on the phone got even more defensive than me, talked down to me and REFUSED to let me speak to her manager. In the end, she told me she would look into all this, and call me back the next day(she didn’t). Two days later I called her back: Her: «Hi, this is [X].» Me: «Hi, this is Vanessa, we spoke on Monday…» Her: «Oh. You.» Hoookay, after I got past that lovely greeting, she explained that it looked like I had been overcharged by about $ 200, but she still wasn’t sure. She said she would call me back the next day. She didn’t. A couple of days later, I received a call from the DRIVER who had done my move. Apparently I was on speaker phone with him and the customer service lady. I was at work, completely blindsided, and the guy told me that ***I had only paid him ~$ 200 for the move and my roommate had paid him $ 100 for helping her set up her furniture(which they agreed to do, and had absolutely nothing to do with me)*** The man straight up LIED to me and his employers. I said, «NO, I paid you $ 507, because you said that the rate was $ 80 per person, per hour, and I had three people doing my move.» The guy then said, «It’s your word against mine.» I admit that after that, I lost it. I was so incredibly upset not only by the situation, but how HORRIBLY the company had handled it. They made me, the customer, confront the driver. I almost died of awkwardness. Not ONCE did they apologize for all the grief they have caused me, or even for the«misunderstanding.» Then they told me I had no proof that I paid the amount I said I paid, because I paid cash and the driver neglected to write down how much he charged me, that the driver was innocent until proven guilty, etc, etc. I was completely dumbfounded. Not only had I lost my money, I was also being called a liar by the man who took it from me. And we even TIPPEDTHEM. I’m sorry for trusting your staff, Dawn Moving, that was clearly my mistake. I’m cutting my losses before I develop an ulcer from the stress, anger and frustration that Dawn Movers has caused me. In conclusion, and sorry about the long review, AVOIDTHESEPEOPLE like the plague, they are THIEVES, they are unprofessional, rude, and disorganized. The only thing I thought they had going for them was the price, but was I wrong on that one too. I ended up paying as much as the other LEGIT moving companies had estimated for me. Moving is stressful, annoying and expensive enough as it is. Do yourself a favor and go with a moving company that will at least TRY to make the process go smoothly. These guys are frauds!!! Beware. They were supposed to move me on a Saturday for which I paid $ 50 in advance. They didn’t even show up and stopped answering my numerous phone calls. They took my credit card info so I am not sure what they are gonna do with it. Even BBB lists them as frauds. Check the link below
THEWORST moving experience I’ve ever had(and I’ve moved a lot in the past decade). For starters, they were an hour and a half late for their first job of the day. When I was upset about this, the guy started into a lament about how he worked every day and how he was sorry that he happened to wake up late that morning… .When he saw that it was a one-bedroom apartment move, he said told me he didn’t know why I was so upset because my move would be so quick… all this while I had taken unpaid time off of my job that day to do this move. The 3 men weren’t well coordinated. There was a lot of bickering between the three of them. I doubted one of them in particular knew anything about moving. He complained to me at one point that my desk was heavy… WTF? They made me sign some paper work BEFORE the move was done. When I asked what it was for, they explained that it said I agreed they had moved everything and nothing was damaged. Again, WTF? They should have done this at the end of the move. And, when I looked in their truck before they left, lo and behold one of my very important boxes was sitting in the middle of their truck… they had failed to unload and said«they didn’t know it was mine». These people aren’t serious and know nothing about moving.
