Ok I came here for the happy hour $ 1.00 fountain drinks between 2pm-5pm, but that being said. I did have a Frito burrito(says shamefully). The two people how waited on me were quite pleasant. I’m a sucker for fountain drinks over bottled or canned beverages and this place has one of the newer drink dispensers that has 2 nozzles, but you can select any of 16 different drinks. Sweet. The food was your standard $ 1.19 burrito and everything you would expect it to be. Sometimes, fast food is a necessary evil and craving. Hey, it’s not I’m gonna write about it. Ha!

I was hesitant to walk over from the la Quinta. For there to be no one here, the food is HOT and wonderful. The inside of the place is not so appealing, but the food is what counts right? #flightattendantadvice

My wife and I were hesitant to eat here when there were absolutely no cars in the parking lot. Obviously everyone in the area knows this place is terrible!!! The taco shells were stale and the meat tasted old. Blah.

I don’t usually review chains because they are pretty much alike — that why they are called chains, of course. Until last week, I don;t think I had been in a Taco Bell for at least ten years, maybe more. Why go here when you have Might Taco in Buffalo for pseudo-tacos, good in their own unauthentic way? But I digress. I have to commend this location for their speed, which is taken for granted at fast food restaurants but not always to be found. For slowness in action, see the world’s slowest Wendy’s across the street in Windsor Locks. Anyway, we were looking for a place to order lunches that we could take several coworkers at a job site. We decided to give Taco Bell a try and order three of their large assorted taco packs of 12 tacos each. That made for 36 assorted tacos, which you might think would tax the resources of the store team. However, no worries: they had the tacos ready in five minutes and still kept the drive-through line moving. Kudos to the folks for doing a good job. And the tacos were decent. Maybe in another ten years I will return. In the meantime, I think you can count of getting your food fast enough and made well enough to keep you contented.

I LOVE burritos, tacos, and nachos. I make them fairly frequently and I’m always on the lookout for place that does them well. Taco Bell ISN’T this place. Although the service is always fast at the Windsor Locks Taco Bell location, they often(60% of the time) forget to ask or forget to provide hot sauce or napkins with the order. Here’s what I think of the food: Tacos — Very small with virtually no beef, a tiny bit of lettuce and a dusting of cheese. They taste like a lightly flavored ‘tortilla’ chip; all crunch and no substance. Rating: F Bean burrito — Since they dropped the ½ pound bean burrito the only one that is left has just a light smearing of beans to coat the often overly chewy and sometimes stale and crunchy tortilla. Since it’s just beans and a little bit of cheese and onion it has no texture, as expected, and a monochromatic bean flavor. It tastes overwhelmingly of bread. It’s WORSE than a freezer burrito for 3x the price. Rating: D 5 Layer burrito — This burrito has beans, ‘beef’, cheese, a little sour cream and maybe some salsa or something. It’s a bit on the small side, with too much tortilla and not enough filling. It’s actually decent for $ 1 or so, but the price just jumped to $ 1.60 or something. Freezer burritos are about on par with this if you coat them with salsa. Apparently this is the best that Taco bell can do. Rating: C Quesaritio — This is Taco Bell’s idea of a quesadilla wrapped up with burrito fillings. It seems quite close to the 5 layer burrito in terms of size, taste, texture and amount of tortilla vs fillings. It’s not big, but it costs a lot more than even the overpriced 5 layer burrito and still has too much tortilla. Rating: D I also decided to get the ‘best’ burrito at Taco bell one time to see how it fared to my favorite from Bueno Y Sano. It was a $ 6 grilled steak somethingorother and it was, in short, inedibly terrible. It was actually sized close to what you would expect for $ 6. It could actually be a small meal when coupled with a drink, but the steak was horrific. I actually though the steak was mistakenly replaced with cooked mushrooms due to its jelly-like texture, then to my horror I realized it WAS ‘steak’. Some of their other ingredients(rice, tomato, lettuce, guacamole, sour cream) seemed decent, but way to fail hard on this one Taco Bell. Never again. Rating: F I find it amazing that a company can so consistently screw up something so simple that I would otherwise LOVE: the burrito. All I’m looking for in a burrito is fresh rice, cooked black beans, real cheese, a bit of sour cream, a dollop of guacamole, fresh chopped tomatoes and lettuce and a bit of salsa. Without meat this should be one of the cheapest meal items to make and sell, and it CAN be delicious. In other words, go to Bueno Y Sano and order one of their ridiculous Grande burritos — even if it doesn’t contain meat. At least they know what a burrito should look and taste like. To Taco Bell, and YUM Brands in general, stop destroying everything you touch.

By me giving this Taco Bell four stars I should say that I am comparing it to other Taco Bell restaurants. I don’ t mean to say it is as good as a fancy mexican restaurant with a menu and alcohol, etc. In general I like Taco Bell as a fast food place. But I have found a great variation in quality from one to the other. So I will be reviewing Taco Bell locations as I go to them. I’ve been a Taco Bell fan forever and this one happens to be the location I usually go to. It’s by the airport and I like that area to visit. As Taco Bells go the food is pretty consistent and this one is no exception. I’ve never had to return an item here as I have in other locations.(due to sloppy made items or skimpyness) They always are friendly here and the bathroom seems to be pretty clean too. One thing we like about this particular Taco Bell is that it’s right next to a Burger King so when someone in our family want’s one or the other we either stop at the drive thru before heading to the other. Or if it’s one of my kids I just let them walk over and pick up what they prefer. Anyway overall I like this location.
