Type of order: Pick up only Food Quality: wife ordered cold sub, I ordered hot sub. Could have just ordered double bread on both. Weak offerings. Beer Selection: n/a Service: Took 30 minutes to fill 2 easy orders. Guy behind the counter seemed pissed off that he had to help us. Atmosphere: 60’s style Italian deli. Actually pretty cool. Prices: High. But then again we did order extra bread with our bread. Entertainment: trying to eat this sub without needing a drink every 5 seconds. Overall Experience: disappointed. Might have been a bad /off day. Recommend Rating: willing to try it again for myself and reasonable re-rate, but make sure you check your order before leaving; unless you order their specialty: the bread grinder.

I pity the fool who knows about this place, is in the vicinity and chooses not to come here. This place is easily one of the best deli’s I have ever been too. The portion sizes are huge, a large sandwich is at least 3 meals, so plan accordingly(most larges cost like $ 15 – 17). For the people who say that they give«too much» I say to you, go to Subway. In my book there truly is never«too much» when it comes to value. As a side note I think they remodeled since the inside looked just fine to me.

Great pizza at a very reasonable price. Family run and great customer service. Very close to the airport. It’s cash only.

Delicious grinder — veggie extra pickles with provolone — nice and fast. I got a HALF grinder and it was enormous! Consider sharing. Nice clean place sit and the world. Cup was on. Great!

H&M’s grinder is not like Subway or Blimpies. The grinders are piled to the ceiling with meat and little else. The H&M restaurant building is very nice and is divided into two halves. The left side is the take-out side and the right side is where the sit down eat-in tables are located. Oddly, I have never seen anyone ever eating in the right side of the restaurant. I guess people go there exclusively for take-out, just like they did prior to the change of locations. At any rate, the building is nice, clean, and the staff is. well… some of them seem like they would rather be anywhere other than working at a restaurant. The(I’m guessing) mother and father seem quite nice, however. Service is fast. While they have pizza, baked ziti, and other things, I only ever get their Italian Combo grinder(with Ham, Capicola, salami, prosciutto, lettuce, tomato and mayo). It’s $ 18 for the ‘full’ grinder and $ 9 for the half. The half is the same amount of food as a loaded foot long Subway grinder. Now, I’m under no impression that grinders are a luxury food. They are supposed to provide tons of food for a low price. At H&M the quality of the bread is about on par with the sub rolls you get at the supermarket, chewy and mediocre. The cheese is fine(provolone, normally). The lettuce is normally decent out-of-the-bag shredded variety and the tomatoes are sometimes soggy sometimes fine. So far so meh. Now, the only real reason to buy a H&M grinder is because they pile on 1.5″ of meat on the whole thing. It’s basically a bit of bread covering up a huge pile of meat. Mind you, it’s low grade salty meat, but there is LOTS of it. Sometimes that’s exactly what I’m looking for, but it something that you cannot get at Subway without spending $ 11 on a grinder with triple meat(I have never actually done this). $ 9 is a decent price for the grinder, but it’s not a bargain. It’s more than a $ 5 foot long but you also get more. If you’re looking for a monster meat-heavy grinder H&M is your place. Also, they don’t accept credit cards.

Insanely huge grinders for the price. I had the corned beef Reuben and ate the whole thing in one sitting. I basically became a snake at that point and didn’t eat for the next 20 hours. True story, I ate the whole thing. The interior of the store has some weird décor with Islamic pictures next to John Wayne pictures. I don’t know how they could make money putting that much meat on a grinder for $ 14.50. I’m not complaining, just curious were the meat comes from. My grinder was very good and I will be back. They moved right next store to a bigger building with absurd amounts of marble tile everywhere. I ordered the Rueben grinder again today. It was still a lot of meat, but didn’t seem as big as my first encounter. I was able to eat the whole thing without a problem. They have an ATM machine inside.

I would like to give H&M 4 stars, because the value is extraordinary. We plan to go back frequently, so I expect to upgrade my rating soon :) My hubs and I ordered grinders here. I got the Cajun chicken(hot) and my husband got the Italian combo(cold). For $ 7.50/ea, the half sandwiches had probably over a pound of meat. It was super fresh, too. I found the chicken to be excellent, with a good amount of spiciness. However, the sandwich was bland — it was missing something. I almost think less chicken and more tomatoes would have been better. In defense of the sandwich, I thought it would be cold deli chicken. I do not favor hot grinders, and I really don’t care for messy sandwiches. Same applied to my husband’s sandwich, though. It had too much meat and not enough other flavors. The meat was extremely good, though. We are looking forward to trying more things here. One important tip — bring cash! We not only didn’t know this and had no cash, but I also forgot my ATM card and had to go back for it.

Kind of weird«Yur not frum here» vibe. Turkey low quality. Too salty. Had to eat a mint afterward. Took all the turkey out of sandwich and just ate cheese bread and mayo. It was that bad. Took a huge detour on a road trip to find this place because of good Unilocal reviews. I think people confuse quantity with quality. No thank you ever again.

I’ve been to this place twice now when I’m up by the airport. The Italian combo grinders are good and almost as big as Franklin Ave Grinder. My wife got the meatball grinder and regretted it, the meatballs were dry. The people working here were miserable the times I came. Not sure if I caught them on bad days or if they are always like this.

This type of dining establishment is the reason most Unilocalers prefer the mom and pop restaurants over the corporate big city mega-places. Looks like father-mother and 2 sons run this location and it shows in the quality and quantity. My son and I had lunch here… were going to eat In but decided on takeout as it looks like they are doing remodeling in the entire dining room area. our grinders were very big. very tasty.and very fresh. my steak and cheese was delicious(the ½ size is very large)…my son had the meatball and said it was«.very good». spend a dollar extra and get a «new york pickle»…it will be worth it. not the friendliest spot around but really good food… decently priced and now with the remodeling going on… soon it will be an attractive spot to have spaghetti and meat balls, pizza or a giant grinder in a nice dining atmosphere. a windsor locks hidden gem. worth finding.

It’s not very often that a food establishment holds up to their claims; «Best pizza in town!», «Biggest wieners in the city!», etc. You get the idea. But H&M’s grinders truly live up to their giant namesake. These things are absolutely massive! I stopped in here on my way to the airport with my dad and the two of us didn’t even finish a whole grinder, and trust me, our appetites are a force to be reckoned with. For the size of the grinder, the remarkable amount of meat on it, and the 2 liter of soda we got, I was amazed that everything came to less than 20 dollars. I’ve worked at pizza joints and sandwich shops my whole life, and I was very very impressed by the quality and sheer QUANTITY of the meats used. I would recommend this place to anyone in the area or passing through. Hell I might even take a little weekend road trip from Massachusetts once in a while to get one of these humongous subs! And just an added afternote: This place was very very recently renovated, I believe they re-opened only weeks ago. I was kind of hoping to see the divey, gaudy décor that everyone spoke of in reviews, but all that remained was a single portrait of John Wayne. All the walls and surfaces have been redone in a tasteful grey granite that looks very clean, and it is very well lit and not cramped.

Have you always wondered what it would look like to have a sandwich shop with 50 pictures of John Wayne and another 50 images of Islamic artwork? Yeah, me too. But now, I no longer have to wonder. The grinders here are huge. I mean, big as your head huge. You can get a half of one and it’s still big enough to use as a wheel chock to keep your truck from rolling down the hill. But what a waste that would be. Because the grinders are also awesome. Pickles are made in house. And they were good, but not epic. It wasn’t like I finished my pickle and then started speaking in tongues while running out into the street, picking up nearby cars, and juggling them while whistling the UConn fight song. I mean, I don’t even know the UConn fight song… But the rest of that really happened.

yum. huge portions lol! the décor inside is precious, and this place has a home-y family-run vibe that automatically makes you assume that your sandwich will be made with lots of love.

I used to love this place. Grew up the next town over. But I’d say, maybe 5 years ago, I went to pick up a pizza I had ordered and saw an unkempt employee wearing a white undershirt with armpit stains pick up a grinder roll, shove it under his arm and walk into the back. Needless to say, I did not eat one bit of the pizza I brought home and have never ordered from there again.

Pickles are great. This location is a little dated/run down. The person that answered the phone needs to work on his personality but other than that I didn’t really have any complaints. Specifically, the sandwiches are really big for a decent price, hard to figure how they stay in business with these low prices. The steak sub was decent, I enjoyed the pickles on it even though i didn’t ask for it, i typically do so it was a nice touch. The Italian sub had three types of ham which was really nice that I got that without needing to ask for it or have it be a three meat sub or something like that. Overall would do again although I wouldn’t eat at their location. Does not take credit cards or checks, that was kind of a bummer for me.

I’m rounding up from 2.5 stars. I wish I had stayed in the car when we ordered grinders to go, because I was a little freaked out by the… shall we say«ambiance»… inside the restaurant. The carpet had to be thirty years old, was ripped and filthy, and everything else in the place was similarly icky. A John Wayne poster collection and a defunct arcade game completed the«look.» I’m all for a theme, but«hasn’t been updated since the Reagan administration» isn’t it. Rip up the carpet and Google an coupon code, guys! I ordered an Italian grinder. It was run-of-the-mill– three stars. I had to remove(no joke) a quarter pound of meat from it in order not to have a heart attack on the spot, though. The«regular» sized grinders are in the $ 7 range, which I thought was a little steep until I realized one grinder was two meals. I’m not in a rush to go back, but it wasn’t so bad that I’d put my foot down on a return visit. I’ll just be sure to stay in the car.

Really great sandwiches and pickles. We are going to try their pizza tomorrow. I’m from NJ and we make good subs but this place is off the charts!!!

Good pizza, nothing special. Not a particularly sweet or spicy sauce. I have ordered pizza here on recommendation of Unilocalers the past two times I’ve been in town. I prefer a thiner crust and at $ 16 for a lg plain cheese the De Angelos down the street is looking mighty fine.
