This was a great little hidden gem. No longer Thachers though. Always a great meal, good service, and you always felt welcomed. Not sure if the entire business changed or just the name. Worth your time to stop.

I am not a betting man, but I think Thatchers’s has been sold. The sign has changed to Franco’s Bistro as of 4÷15÷2015

Very satisfying French Onion Soup. Staff/Bartenders and Dave, the owner, always make you feel comfy and welcome. Always an enjoyable take, solid food and good people. It’s pub food so set your expectations accordingly, and don’t complain if you are ‘from away’ and you didn’t get the PERFECT meal, just let them know and try it again, they aim to please and anyone can have an off day. Or, just stay at your ‘vacation home’ stop your pathetic whining and let the rest of us eat in peace.

The bartender was nice. The beer was good. The food was very bad. The only thing that I ate was the toast and twice baked(plain) potato from my meal.

I have so many unbelievable memories of this place as it was our evening hangout for camp staff every summer for years. Dave and staff were so unbelievably fun and welcoming to us. It was basically a home away from home. They have the BEST clam chowder I’ve ever had in my life. Dave used to give me a quart of chowder to take on the road and it would usually be finished before we got back to camp. Miss this place so much… Hope I can get back up there someday to see Dave again. What a great guy and what a great establishment. Do yourself a favor and go spend an afternoon or evening there… his stories are worthy alone. I wonder if anyone has an email address or a number as I would love to get back in touch with Dave. Let me know!

This restaurant is larger then the front packing lot holds foe cars so if you show up with a lot of cars most likely get a table. Next the place is not fancy so on a special Axe to go for anniversary or such event. The staff is above average in service and the food is above average I had a claim dinner with whole class not strips. The cold claw was good but came I. This tiny plastic cup… ugh minus points here but tasted good so… no points The beans excellent in a small ceramic cup so one point Total score 3 of 5 points

We were up at our vacation home in the Sebago Lake Region and decided to try out Thatcher’s as it had some rave reviews on Unilocal. As others have stated, the inside is quite dated inside. We started with a couple of coffee’s, which were stale. We had to put 4 creamers in and the coffee was still black. I asked if the turkey for the turkey sandwich was«real», or a turkey they make themselves, and the waiter said no, it was deli style turkey. I just don’t happen to prefer slimy deli turkey, so I opted for the chicken salad wrap special. I asked about soup, and the waiter told us the various soups they had, and asked if I would like it instead of the fries with my sandwich. I chose the Broccoli soup instead for $ 9.95. My husband got the Fried Haddock, which came with fries and Cole Slaw for $ 12.95. My wrap was OK but was made with bought pre-prepared chicken salad and was heavy on the mayo for my liking. The soup was as thick as pudding, and barely warm(someone was not paying attention in the kitchen). My husband got two pieces of Fried Haddock and French fries. When I saw the fries I was glad I didn’t get them as they were the battered kind and I wouldn’t have eaten them. He ate some of them but wasn’t too crazy over them. He said the batter on the fish could have been thicker and had no taste to it. A good part of the larger piece of fish had a brown color and a fowl taste. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen Haddock that the flesh was brown. Now anyone that knows me, knows how much I like giving a donation to restaurants that totally rip you off. I was served barely warm soup, my husband bad fish. Anyone cooking that fish would have seen the dark color on the fish. Apparently that is the quality of fish they buy, and that’s what you can expect. In a word gross. If I can compare it to the piece of fish I had on Saturday night from Butch’s in Haverhill, MA that was super thick, white, flaky, no nasty foul taste with a mound of crunchy buttery cracker crumbs for $ 14.00…Well there is no comparison! We asked for a take out menu, and were given a menu with the address of their last location approx 3 plus years ago, in the Windham Mall. They seriously can’t print some new Take Out menus? It certainly isn’t because they just moved there, because they have been there for quite some time! If they are lazy about keeping up to date on their menus, they are lazy about everything else in the restaurant. Not sure where those rave reviews came from, but there’s no way they are unbiased reviews. We should have gone to Rosie’s where we usually go, but decided to try a new place. Bitten again. This place is, in a word, disappointing, and if I could give it NO stars I would.

Not too many places with reviews in this part of Maine. Decided to try Thatcher’s while vacationing in Naples because comments were pretty decent. I ordered the Haddock Plate-fried haddock with fries and coleslaw. The haddock was so large it didn’t fit on the plate. It was cooked to perfection-light and flaky. So why only 3 stars you ask? All the food lacked seasoning. The haddock batter had absolutely no taste. My husband had fried clams and he said the same thing-everything lacked seasoning. Cole slaw was freshly made, but again lacked flavor. Décor is old and needs updating.

I had dinner here last night with some old friends. Nice atmosphere and good service but the food wasn’t the greatest. We all ordered seafood so can’t speak for other entrees. The baked haddock was overdone as was the baked stuffed haddock. Baked scallops were overdone as well. The baked potatoes were so hard and dried out we thought they had been left in the oven since the night before. The reason I gave it 2 stars is the good service and the fantastic drinks!

Thatcher’s in Windham is on the site of the old Red Sands Restaurant, which holds wonderful family memories for me. I was in the area and stopped in for lunch and had THEBEST haddock sandwich, I think I have ever had in my life. The fish was a true filet, beautifully cooked. The coleslaw was wonder. Even the fries to go with it were particularly well made. To go with wonderful food, is their pleasant dining area and wonderful wait staff. Since first discovering Thatchers there in Windham, when I want something to eat while in the area, it is my go-to, first choice restaurant. And some days… memories of that haddock sandwich call my name and call me into Windham even if there is no other reason to drive up there! Great job, Thatcher’s!!!

As visitors to the area, we tried several restaurants but really enjoyed Thatcher’s. Good, solid food at a good price served in a pleasant setting by friendly servers. The seafood was delicious and my mom loved the peanut butter pie, though it is made out of house. The portions are generous with lots of choices among vegetables and potatoes. There’s even a seniors menu. All in all, a great place.

I’ve rated this place five stars for its character, service and the quality and price of the food. Please consider that this is a local bar with dinner service, not a high priced gourmet restaurant. I posted reasonably bad pictures of the menu, but it will give you an idea of what is there. We(2 adults) went in on Saturday afternoon at about 3PM for a beer and some late lunch, expecting decent bar food and regular bar service. We got better on both accounts. We sat at the bar and ordered from Dave the bartender who turned out to be the owner as well. I had the special capicola club sandwich with slaw and fries and a cold beer and Nurse Christine ordered the Haddock plate with double slaw and no fries. The club sandwich was fresh, warm, large and quite tasty with plenty of capicola and plenty of bacon. The fries were crispy and excellent. The slaw was some of the best I’ve ever eaten. I had a cup of haddock chowder as well. I wanted more. The haddock came in two 6 inch slabs about an inch and a half square, breaded and fried with more of the creamy slaw. Both entrees were very good with the club sandwich being a true winner and the chowder being exceptionally good as well. Nurse Christine asked Dave if they made the cheesecake fresh and he told her that the restaurant purchased it from a local baker and it was really good. You can look at the picture. It will give you an idea. Good cheesecake is hard to come by in rural Maine, but Thatcher’s delivered. Dave also gave me a sample of his ribs as well. They were St. Louis/KC Style with a sweet, tomato based sauce. The meat fell off the bone, but the bone did not fall out of the meat(an important distinction). If you are a fan of New England style St. Louis ribs that don’t require a whole lot of gnawing, give them a shot. The customers were friendly around the bar. Most, if not all were local people who were regulars. Dave, the owner went out of his way to make us happy. Because of the overall package and the reasonable price of everything, I rate this as a top choice in the Sebago Lake region. Give it a shot for a beer and lunch or a casual dinner.

An excellent restaurant, standing out above other local restaurants. We had salad(surprisingly fresh and tasty, very different from salads in other local restaurants), steak(excellent), fried haddock(really excellent), NY style cheesecake(very good), strawberry shortcake(real shortcake!). Everything was not perfect — the rice pilaf did not taste near eastern, the baked potato was ordinary, the fish chowder was really excellent but had too much salt for my doctor to be happy with it). Nevertheless the positives far outweighed the negatives, and this restaurant is well worth a visit. Incidentally, the new address is 907 Roosevelt Trail.

I love this place, they have the best homemade soups. One of the better places to eat in Windham. The service can be slow on weekend nights.
