Can’t go to Windham without dining here for their delicious Swedish meatballs. They are actually listed under«light fare» but it serves as quite a hearty meal both in portion and in flavor. It is simply delicious! The gravy poured over this generous serving(4) of meatballs and the accompanying spatzle is just amazing! Have had several of the German inspired dishes, and have never been disappointed! You can’t go wrong here!(Super friendly, efficient staff too!)

I have never had such an enjoyable culinary experience in my life. As a life long and world traveling schnitzel enthusiast I can say this is among the best I have ever had. The staff was amazing and the place was SPOTLESS. Excellent food, excellent people, excellent time. Thanks again, I will definitely be coming back soon.

This is hands down the best restaurant in the entire county. Family owned and ran and you can tell from the moment you step in and are greeted like you are a member of the family. The food is phenomenal I had the the jäger snitzel and not only was the portion enough for 2 but it was so delicious you can tell it was made with love. If you are not trying to sit down for dinner, you can stop in for a slice of the best pizza in town. This is a MUSTGO if you are in the area or even within driving distance. You will not be disappointed!

Walk in and a large wood burning stove is heating up the entrance with a real fire. The front is a small take out style pizza place, but walk through a few feet and you get to the restaurant. The restaurant has a German/fondue menu. The décor is a little kitschy and outdated and they seem to cater to lots of large groups, but they accomdated our party of two and we’re very attentive with the service despite us being snuggled between two huge parties of ten people on each side of us. The menu had typical German choices: Saubraten, a favorite of mine, did not disappoint. Even better was the red cabbage on the side. The potato pancake was pretty good, but I was too busy eating every last piece of red cabbage to make a good assessment. The bratwurst and knockwurst was served with the best German potato salad we ever had and had imported sauerkraut. Wow. Beware the spicy mustard though(we lived it, but it had a kick). The entrees came with a side salad that was so simple, yet captured the delish flavor using baby green leaf lettuce, red onion, fresh mushroon and green apple in a simple apple cider vinegarette with Italian spices. We would DEFINITELY recommend this and return.

For a romantic Christmas dinner in the mountains, the Chalet Fondue did not disappoint. The restaurant ambiance is reminiscent of a chalet; a wooden house or cottage typically found in the Swiss alps. Upon entering, we were greeted with a festive roomful of customers. The waiter lead us to our table and handed us the menu. Although we already knew that we will be ordering Fondue Chinoise for two; it is a Swiss specialty of veal and beef served with a variety of sauces and fresh vegetables. It had really been a while since we had Fondue. We started our dinner with a celebratory toast and a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, followed by a loaf of Swiss bread and vegetable and apple slices salad with vinaigrette dressing. The bread and salad really stimulated our appetite. The staff set up our table in a timely fashion(firing up the stove, setting Fondue pot with hot broth and brought the raw veal and beef meat on the table), while our waiter was nearby filling our glasses with wine every now and then. It was one of my most memorable holiday dinners. The great customer service and the idea of having a Fondue on a winter night made the whole experienced truly special.

This was a great meal. Eva, our server, was friendly and sweet. Between us we had the potato and leek soup and potato pancakes to start, both of which were very good. The salad was an unexpected midcourse, though slightly overdressed. We had the swordfish special, bratwurst and knockwurst, wiener schnitzel, and veal cordon bleu. Everything was very good. In fact, so good that we didn’t have room for dessert.

Chalet Fondue? More like Chalet FUN-due! Came here on a chilly winter night with 4 friends. When we requested a drink menu, the sassy waitress responded with: «We have a FULLBAR.» — I like your style… For 5 people, the Fondue Chinois for two, and the Cheese fondue provided plenty of food — and if you’re feeling hungry throw in an order of meatballs and potato pancakes. I’d recommend double-skewering the veal, unless you want your prime piece bobbing around in boiling broth until it’s well-done, or in my opinion, ruined.

My wife and I dined here in the summer(the off-season), sat in that outside structure thing, and had a really good dinner. Our waitress was efficient, and the entire staff were just really nice people. Not the best German food, but it’s Upstate NY, and comparing to other German restaurants in the country, it’s above average. Will stop in again for sure.

Well, the weisswurst itself was pretty good. But all other parts of the meal were meh. Tastless. Sauerkraut was from a can… For the quality its too expensive. I would rather go to Denny’s or Applebees.

Pretty mediocre food which is a bit expensive. Dining options are limited in this area, so take it as you will. If we come back to the area, we’d probably try other restaurants instead. I agree w/a prev. reviewer that the spatzle was ridiculously bland.

So I used to come here before the new owner converted the entry into a casual pizza stop. This was handsdown my favorite place to stop after snowboarding. I read all the new negative reviews about the new pizza place built into a cozy german restaurant and it almost deterred me from stopping in but I had to see it for myself. I will admit that its a bit odd to see the pizza counter with the bright lights right there and then walk into that darker cozy room with the fireplace. That said, the fondue and food quality appears to be the same, the original chef is still there. The beer is still top quality and the service staff is the same. I probably wouldn’t refer someone here anymore because of how odd it is now; they would think I was a weirdo for telling them to go into this italian/german pizza/fondue restaurant. That said, still probably one of the better places around; very limited decent dining options in the area.

I wound up here because the diner and pub we drove by was filled with wall to wall people, it was 7 pm on Friday, and we didn’t feel like waiting at the other spots. This place was fairly empty(not a good sign for a Friday evening)…but figured we’d give it a shot. Well, the food was edible German fare… only saw 1 fondue entrée and 1 fondue dessert on the entire menu… and as far as I’m concerned, that’s not enough to necessitate having«fondue» in the name of the restaurant. The food wasn’t totally gross… but it wasn’t that great either. The highlight of the meal was an awesome loaf if bread they put on the table. Crunchy exterior and a warm, soft and chewy interior. It went downhill after that. The salad tasted like it was sitting plated in the kitchen for a few hours before being brought to the table. Goulosh soup was ok, but was overally salted. The jagerschnitzel was not that good. The veal was rubbery, and the sauce was not seasoned well. The staff however was friendly, helpful and attentive. Overall, an ok(at best) meal, but totally not worth the price. 1 star for value. 2 stars for food. 4 stars for service.

Overall I was very disappointed by my experience at this restaurant. The spaezle was bland and over done, the chicken francaise tasted like an omelette because there was entirely too much egg in the batter, and the gluhwein was horrendous, it tasted like pure nutmeg. The fruit with the chocolate fondue desert was not sweet, overly soft and seemed like it was about to go bad. For the price I expected a LOT more quality. The sauerbraten was good though, so I gave it two stars because it is tough to find good sauerbraten. Our waitress was almost non existent despite being her only table, and she could be heard bellowing laughter from the kitchen. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anybody.

My family and I ate here in June 2011 while staying in Windham to attend a funeral for a relative. We never were in Windham in the mid summer months and It was a somber weekend, we were feeling pretty down, this place was the perfect spot for German comfort food. I had the sausage platter which was very good, excellent red cabbage, my wife had the veal, again very good we shared Swedish meatballs and spatzle and they also were both very good. The salad was in fact a bit moist with dressing but still yummy. The wait staff was very accommodating with my children and was also very nice. As I am used to dining in NYC and the Hamptons I can honestly say this place greatly exceeded my expectations of what we would get and we were pleased with the food, service and overall experience. Prices were reasonable by my standard although compared a bit higher then some of the other local establishments. We will be back here during ski season, if we can get a table.

The décor is pretty bad. The food is decent overall but you need to order the cheese or chocolate fondue. They are the best items on the menu. Plenty of parking is available and they have a cool little bar/waiting area. The owners are very very nice. I saw Cameron Diaz eating here once and she was a total bitch.

Our only complaints: the spatzle was incredibly bland, and the house salad apparently went through a car wash of dressing before reaching our table. Otherwise — Yummy cheese fondue, edible meatballs, the trout side was awesome. Cheerful server and nice, warm atmosphere. Very happy with everything.

It’s not my favorite place, but my cousin loves it. Thought I’d give it three stars at least to defend it. I have eaten here at least twice. and it deserves more than two stars. I took my cousin out for dinner and she wanted to go there, so it’s OK, she has good taste.

This was the only place open to eat at 9PM on a Monday, so Chalet Fondue it was. The menu was mainly German with a few random items thrown in(tortellini in tomato sauce, chicken fingers and fries, Sweedish meatballs). I had potato pancakes with applesauce. They were pretty good, but too greasy to eat more than two. The dessert menu was more appealing than the dinner menu. We had vanilla ice cream with melted swiss chocolate. It was really good. The waitress was super friendly, though approaching creepy. The restaurant’s décor was hideous.
