Under new ownership and you can tell– but in a good way! Arrived on a busy Friday night for dinner! We were greeted at the door with a smiling face and promptly seated! The waiter came immediately to take out drink order! For dinner, we had the John T’s sampler with mouthwatering brisket and succulent pulled pork-with baked beans and potato salad as the sides! Don’t forget the corn cakes as an accompaniment! All were delicious! Still the same cozy atmosphere and good food but now with quick service, too! Thanks John T’s for a great Friday night dining experience! We will be back!

Absolutely the best bbq and service in the area. We like to stop in for lunch after church to have the pulled pork plate with fried green tomatoes as a side. All the food is very reasonably priced and I can guarantee you will not leave hungry.

Whenever we travel to Winchester, TN, we eat at John T’s BBQ Smokehouse. Sure there are not that many places to eat in Winchester, but this place is too good to pass up. The atmosphere, staff and food are all great. The staff wears coveralls, and they love chit-chatting with you while you get food and drinks. Every wall has antiques and posters to look at while the tables are covered in old news clippings to read while you wait for your food. You never have to wait long for your food though. There is an upstairs with a bar, private dinning area for special parties and a co-ed restroom. This is where we typically sit. There is also plenty of seating downstairs and live music on the weekends. They serve beer on tab and wine is welcomed(BYOW) with a 5 $ cork fee. The drinks are served in LARGE mason jars. For food, I always start with the load nachos(pork as my meat). The nachos come in a glass pie dish so there is more than enough to share. Plenty of chips smothered in cheese, pork(or meat of your pick), salsa, black beans, sour cream and jalapenos. I like to add a little bit of the BBQ sauce to my chips. Fantastic! Since the nachos are massive, I spilt a sandwich(which comes with one side) with Nick. We got the John T’s Almighty Beef Brisket this time. It is a spin on a Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich except beef brisket for the meat. You get a little bit of homemade dill sauce to add to the sandwich which is a good way to deal with the strong kick of the jalapenos on the sandwich. The sandwich is on hoagie roll. It is thick, and the side we picked was the buffalo fries which is great for dipping in ranch sauce. Like I said, this is a place we look forward to eating at every time we visit family. The two of us eat for $ 30(including large tip since we enjoy the staff so much). We enjoy hanging and talking to the staff, looking at all the neat things on the walls and tables and obviously love the food. I cannot wait to go back next month and eat again.

I’m a huge fan of this place. Wonderfully decorated, with great food in great amounts. A little slow on the service when crowded, but is still a must-stop.

Have tried most things on the menu and haven’t found one I don’t like! I suggest the sampler, get the amazing ribs and whatever other meat you prefer or want to try. Haven’t had any bad service either. One time with a large group they waited to kick us out until 9:30 when the closed at 9.

I am from Memphis where bbq establishments are on every corner, but John T’s is my new favorite. We both had the pulled pork, baked beans and slaw and everything was fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is great, too. I will be back often!!!

Well, stopped in for lunch due to all the great reviews and 30 minutes into my visit, I’m still waiting for my pork sandwich. Definitely not impressed with the service at this point. Not an overly busy day and based on my knowledge, pork shoulder is cooked in advance so it should be a matter of placing meat on a bun. Hope it’s worth the wait.

This place is THE best barbecue around! Hands down. Have eaten there many times and everything is amazing: brisket, pulled pork, TN tator, sampler plate, beans, meat salad and the omg banana pudding! They closed down for a bit and we were all sad! Now, they have opened back up and I hope they never close! Great atmosphere, décor and music.

Not only is this the best BBQ in Winchester, TN. This is some of the best BBQ is TN. And the banana pudding is awesome; one of the best you’ll get anywhere. It is located in downtown Winchester and parking can be difficult. First of the meats are smoked well and they are moist. Everything that I have tried here I like. Ribs, Pulled Pork and Brisket. Sorry I have not had the chicken here and I’ve not wasted time on Catfish, burgers or other non-Que items. The only thing I don’t like are the hours. It’s hard to get there for lunch and the days they are open are down to Thursday-Sunday. I do wish he had a good North Carolina Vinegar sauce to go with his awesome pulled pork. The pork is smoked well, not over powered with it and has always been moist. One thing I can say is that every time I’ve been here the meats have been consistently good and moist, never dry. Since I’ve mainly been here for dinner I most times get a combo of Ribs and Pulled pork. You can see by the pictures that the ribs are awesome looking. I’ve posted pictures from several visits. In addition to good meats their Fried pickles are very good; another one of my favorites. Fried green tomatoes and corn cakes. The baked beans are good but could use some more meat in them. I like to mix a bit of pork in with my baked beans. And finally, the item that no one should miss from this location, Banana pudding. I love banana pudding and this has got to be some of the best you’ll get. Served in a mason jar and pudding stands up to a Nilla Waffer being planted into it. This is achieved I believe by adding Crème Cheese to the pudding — something I do in my own pudding -.

I am not a big fan of barbeque despite eating it a lot here in the south and preparing it for family and friends, but that being said I really enjoyed this eatery. The food was fresh and well presented in a very unique and quirky, yet stylish restaurant, which was designed by the owner The meats were cooked to perfection the four times I visited, and everything from the sides dishes to appetizers were just as good. The sauce could be a little sweet, but if that is their signature then it works for me. The owner is very nice and sincere and kept the restaurant open after hours for me when I was a late arrival(by myself). The servers can be hit or miss and more often than not they prefer to huddle in the back talking with themselves. However, all said I do enjoy coming here when I have guests in town and they have all enjoyed their experience.

Ate here during the Ragnar Relay from Chatt to Nashville, amazing brisket, great atmosphere, friendly staff. It was seriously the best brisket I have had. The homemade dill and bbq sauces are great!

For a place to eat in Winchester this is as good as it gets. The portions are large and the service was pretty good. I went with my mom when I was visiting family so it can’t be a regular spot for me, but it is a great place for the locals.

We found this quaint little place on a Sunday when driving through the area, and we were not sorry we stopped! The décor and atmosphere really set you up for a true«down home» southern BBQ experience. The wait staff was friendly and prompt. I had the pulled pork sandwich on Texas toast with the sweet potato fries and my husband had the smoked sampler with the spicy fries and white beans. Everything was excellent! We LOVED their«Sloppin Sauce» and even bought a few bottles to share with family and friends as Christmas presents. The owner stopped by to check on us and let us try the brownie in a mason jar on the house. SAVEROOMFORTHISDESSERT– IT’S FANTASTIC! We truly enjoyed the whole experience and will be telling our Middle Tennessee friends to make the trip for this locally owned gem!

Love the food, staff and atmosphere. I wanted to find a place kinda in the middle to have dinner with my father that lives in McMinnville, TN and I live in Madison, AL. I will definitely drive an hour again to get some of those great ribs and chicken.

First off, Winchester has a nice little downtown(thanks in part to state money to rehab the town square). If you’re in the area, it’s a nice little walk around. They have a 50’s era movie theatre downtown right next to John T’s. We stopped in here for a quick bite. Restaurant is enormous and very nice decorated. They are apparently open Thursday — Sunday only. We were in on a Saturday afternoon and it was pretty slow. Wait staff was extremely friendly, cordial and helpful. Group tried various items — pulled pork sandwiches, chicken sandwich, mac & cheese, etc and everything was good. The banana pudding was very highly rated by the group. Not a ton of non-chain dining options in Winchester, so be sure to give this a try.

This is a nice place for BBQ. We were in the square sight seeing and decided to have lunch before seeing a movie at the old theater beside the establishment. We ordered the Pulled Chicken Sandwich and the Fried Chicken Fillet Sandwich on Texas Toast. From what I gather from my partners’ comment, their Fried Chicken Fillet Sandwich was phenomenal. My sandwich was somewhat bland but after I found their bottle of BBQ sauce, the sandwich became awesome. Wish I didn’t see it so late in my consumption of the dish. Then came time for dessert. We had their Moon Pie Banana Split. It is a moon pie, then a layer of banana pudding, ANOTHER moon pie, a scoop of ice cream, and caramel drizzle. I have to say OMG. This was so heavenly. If you are in Winchester square, do yourself a favor and give this place your business.
